20.01.2022 In the fight against global terrorism, architecture has a surprisingly important role to play.

18.01.2022 Tomorrow! Ken Maher AO, Hassell Fellow, will be presenting a Real Lecture entitled ‘Architects and Climate Change: Professional and Public Responsibilities’. In... the face of the emerging climate change crisis, economic stresses, and political inaction how can architects and associated design professionals act to make a positive contribution to our future? An impact of the current pandemic has been to diminish interest in these issues, so the imperative of responsive and responsible practice has never been greater. What are our responsibilities and opportunities of our professions within and beyond the practice? The design of our cities, towns, buildings, landscapes and public realm plays a critical yet underrated role. Encouraging policy and political action to deliver a more sustainable built world as there is a return to some semblance of normality will be critical to establishing the context for effective and ethical practice. This presentation will set the context and explore these issues through a personal lens of cross-disciplinary practise and the opportunities for public engagement, with a particular focus on the activities of the Australian Sustainable Built Environment Council (ASBEC), the CRC for Low Carbon Living, and the approach to projects and processes at Hassell. Ken Maher AO is a Hassell Fellow, Honorary Professor at UNSW, President of ASBEC and an Institute of Architects Gold Medallist. 03.01.2022 Hand drawn sketches! To the attention of CAD monkeys!

02.01.2022 The losing art of (Japanese) calligraphy. Similar to the architects' freehand drawings and sketches as young "architects" are using computer aided design that makes the "design" somewhat sometimes irrelevant to the built environment. The CAD Monkeys!
