25.01.2022 WELCOME TO 2021

25.01.2022 The juniors Singles Competition has now started and will be played over the next couple of weeks. If you can, make time, and watch the enthusiasm and skill of our young and upcoming bowlers.

25.01.2022 The following positions are being sought for the Zone Committee

24.01.2022 Today was a day of conflicting results. This morning we beat Towradgi in the Quarter final of the Champion of Club Champion Fours and this afternoon we lost to Figtree. The first report will cover the quarter final and the second the Semi final. In the Quarter final Citos scored a 3 on the first end and went down by 1 on end two. From then on for the next 9 ends it was mainly Citos with a couple of ends going to Towradgi. and we were leading 11-4. Obviously the opposition di...dn't like this and came back at us winning 4 of the next 6 ends including a couple of 3's and the score was 13-13 with 4 ends to go. We then picked up a 4 followed by Towradgi scoring a 3, and 17-16 to us. The last two ends went to us and a win by 21 shots to 16. Noticeable ends were the 14th where Towradgi were holding 3 or 4 shots when a great drive from Jarrod killed the end resulting in a replay where we picked up a shot after being one down and a great draw from Jarrod. On the 15th end we were one down when a good shot from Jarrod took out our second wood and we went 3 down. Such is bowls - you win some, you lose some. See more

22.01.2022 Today was Citos Presentation Day when winners of the Club Championships and other competitions were presented with their awards. Because of Covid restrictions the event was held as a BBQ lunch rather than a major evening event. However, thanks to the BBQ chefs, the lady servers and the bar staff it was a successful day all round. The following photos are of the attendees at the presentation.

22.01.2022 Some members have asked after John "sluggo" Hinde who has not been at the club for a while. I called in to see him this morning and he is recovering from an operation on the little toe on his right foot. He has had a pin inserted and it probably won't be removed for a couple of weeks. After that he hopes to return to bowling if only for a roll up to start with.

22.01.2022 Reg Allenson as many of you will know is a Citos bowler has unfortunately had a fall recently and broken his shoulder. As he is, unbelievably, in his 90's there is not much that can be done about it other than rest. He is currently in Shellharbour Private Hospital, Bed 28. The Club will be sending him a Get Well card on behalf of his friends and fellow bowlers.

20.01.2022 This year we can't hold our Jersey Day celebrations and fund raising. Jason Smith has done so much in the past to raise money for the cause but this year all we can do is BE AWARE OF ORGAN DONATION, wear you favourite footy shirt on Friday 4th September and maybe slip a donation in your favourite charity box.

18.01.2022 CONGRATULATIONS to Kim Suckley who on a perfect day for bowls beat Jocilin Hayman from Goulburn Railway in the Regional Singles Final by 25 shots to 15. Kim, who has been hampered by hamstring problems (excuse the pun) started with one shot on the first end and then struggled to find speed of the green. Jocilin took advantage and raced to a 9-1 lead after 6 ends. The next 5 ends were even with the score at 12-6 to Jocilin. Kim then came into her own and won the next 6 ends to lead 13-12 . From then on it was, other than two ends, all Kim as she picked up multiples to win the game 25-15. Husband Brian was there to witness Kim's triumph and proclaim her Number One! Thanks go to Kim's opposition for a skillful and sporting game and to Judy Ramsey who marked the game.

18.01.2022 Dave Reynolds. Whilst calling in at Mick Collier's I popped into see Dave Reynolds (they live next door to each other) and his health is not good. Dave has given me permission to update his health situation partly so that he doesn't have to give a report every time someone asks as he finds it hard to talk about. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 pancreatic cancer and is being treated accordingly. He has decided not to have chemo treatment but to, as he says, "eat what I want, drink what I want and enjoy what time I have left" Dave still has his sense of humour which will help him through difficult times ahead. He is happy spending time with his mates at the club especially on a Thursday night.

17.01.2022 Tuesday nights = $10 Mings Wings and a drink!

17.01.2022 From today's Illawarra Mercury.

17.01.2022 Director results. Noel Hawke (President), Roy Logan (VP)- Elected unopposed..

17.01.2022 As 2021 approaches, Club Championships start again. Fours is our first Championship to start. The calendar for 2021 is jam packed, so we need to use any available weekends. The Match Committee will endeavour to complete the rest of the calendar in the near future.

17.01.2022 Welcome to the December edition of the Citos News. Loads of it this month with members news and championship results.

17.01.2022 Of course it was Michael Bourke who paired with Troy Gumm and not Gary - I need to go to Specsavers asap!! Sorry Michael.

16.01.2022 History was made in yesterday's pennants competition with three generation of "Coopers" in the same team - Ken, Flynn and Mark. Well done guys.

16.01.2022 Today the Citos ladies played their Fours Final. It was a match where the result didn't truly reflect the game. In the end the team of Marg Kennedy, Darlene Woods, Helen Rusten and Joyce Harkness beat Yvonne Smith, Jenny Fitzgerald, Linda Meiser and June White by 23 shots to 13. The game started in perfect bowling weather with Marg's team opening up a 5-1 lead after 5 ends. June's team hit back to make it 5-4 after 7 ends. For the next six ends it was June's team that did mo...st of the scoring to take a 9-7 lead at the half way mark. Then the wheels fell off for June when Joyce's team scored 4,3,1,3,5 to June's1 shot and to take an almost unbeatable 23-10 lead. On the penultimate end June picked up a three bit it was too late with a deficit of 10 shots and only a possible 8 on the last end. The game was notable in the first few ends where both teams had a problem with their weight, Many bowls were way past the jack even if the line was true. Eventually the ladies settled down to read the green correctly and some great bowls was played to the extent the Umpire, Sue Zoszak, was called to many heads to determine shots by as little as millimeters. CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS AND COMMISSERATIONS TO THE RUNNERS UP See more

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Rod Taylor and Cael Arneman who won today's Major/Minor Pairs by beating Rob O'Rourke and Michael Bourke by 20 shots to 13. Rob and Michael reached the final by beating Shaun Parnis and Tom Chidiac 18-17 in the semi-final and Rob and Cael in their semi beat Brian Fox Jr and Rob Lawrence 18-13. In a game played in magnificent weather that had no drastic effect on the bowls some great shots were played throughout the game and Cael held his own with the "old g...uys!". Rob and Michael took first blood with a two followed by one from Rod and Cael who then scored a four to take a 5-2 lead. This was the highest score for an end all game and from then on until the last end it was ones and twos from both teams. The 5-2 lead established was never bettered although the scores were within a few shots all game. On end 20 Rod and Cael were holding a 17-13 lead and picked up an unbeatable three to win the game by 7 shots with the final end not being played. As an indication of the skills involved end four was a cracker. Cael after his three bowls was holding one shot; Rob with a beautiful bowl took the kitty back for one; Rod then repeated the dose and took the kitty further back to hold one; Rob then drove Rob's bowl from the head for one; however there was enough space for Rod to once again draw for one shot for the end. A great game by all four players and especially Cael who showed no nerves in the game with his elders and showed how his sportsmanship and opponent appreciation has improved over the last couple of years. Word had got around and even the Red Baron flew over to see what was going on. See more

15.01.2022 Good luck to Kim Suckley competing in the Final of the Ladies Regional Singles at Wingdang BC on Thursday 15th October 2020Good luck to Kim Suckley competing in the Final of the Ladies Regional Singles at Wingdang BC on Thursday 15th October 2020

14.01.2022 TO ALL PAST AND REGULAR PARTICIPANTS. It is with great regret that we have had to cancel this year’s 62nd Sth Pacific Carnival. We have been holding off hoping ...that health regulations and the Covid situation might change enough for us to run the carnival. Because of the cost and the logistics of running the carnival and sponsorship issues we have decided to cancel the 62nd carnival until next year. Being one of the longest running carnivals in the world, you can appreciate that the decision was not easy. But we felt we had no choice. See more

13.01.2022 The tension of winning!

13.01.2022 Zone trial- Well done to all selected.

13.01.2022 This week's Welfare and News update. Hopefully you all had a great day yesterday and that you enjoy the remainder of Christmas.

13.01.2022 Finals day. This Saturday!! Club Fours finals. Good bowling to all involved.

12.01.2022 On the 28th February a Zone 16 team of 12 juniors competed in the Interzone Metropolitan Shield at Wyong. Of the 12, eight were from Citos. Ricci-Rose Hampton, Hamish Hampton, Jackson Williams, Flynn Cooper, Hunter Ainsley, Isaac Carter, Luke Bailey and Daniel Hunter. Whilst Zone 16 didn't win they cam a credible second and all the juniors had a great time and gained valuable experience in competition bowls and playing away from home. They were mentored by Coach and Chaperone Natalie Neronha and Junior Match Committee member Jamie Nabbe.

11.01.2022 IAN GOLDING. On Thursday 3rd December Ian had hip replacement surgery which will hopefully relieve the pain from which he has been suffering for some while. Sally informs me that he is up and out of bed and walking with, at the moment, the help of a walker. Once everything is checked out as OK he should be home - hopefully in a few days. Speedy recovery Ian.

11.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that former Citos bowler David Birkin passed away last night. Dave had been in Hammond Care for some while and was suffering from dementia. He was transferred to paliative care recently where he died. Many of you will remember Dave as a dour committed Yorkshireman but Dave had a great sense of humour and was great fun to be with away from the competitiveness of bowls. He was a club champion many times including at least Singles 4 times, Pairs 6 times, Triples 2 twice, Fours twice and Major Minors once. Dave now joins his beloved wife Flo on a bowling green somewhere in the sky. RIP Dave.

11.01.2022 Pennants start tomorrow. Good luck to all bowlers. Please read the board, there have been a number of changes throughout the season to work around Covid restrictions.

09.01.2022 Another afternoon of great bowling from our Citos bowlers. Today it was the Champion of Club Champion Fours team of Terry Seton, Peter McCauley, Michael Stead and Jarrod Beckford who took on the team from Woonona , John Ritchie, Robbie Baker, Warren Hamilton and Steve Haines. The game started fairly even with the score 4-4 after 6 ends when Woonona picked up a shot after a killed end with Citos holding shot. Woonona then went on a scoring spree and led 13-4 after 9 ends. Neve...r say die Citos then came back with two 4's to trail 10-13 after 11 ends. On the 11th end, with the kitty in the ditch and holding 2 shots on the edge of the ditch Citos were denied the end when Woonona drove our two bowls out and picked up one shot. (10-14). On the next end Steadie claimed two touchers with great bowls only to see the kitty roll to the Woonona bowls. However, Jarrod drove the kitty to the ditch and picked up three shots (13-14).The next 4 ends went to Citos (18-14 on 17 ends)The last ends went 2 (W),2(C), 2(W) and in a nail biting final end 1 to Citos and a worthy 21-18 win much to the relief of the bowlers and Citos spectators. Tomorrow they meet the team from Towradgi ( Andrew Metcalfe, Rob Earl, Norm Flanagan and Les Reese) at 9.15 am. GGOD LUCK AND GOOD BOWLING CITOS.

09.01.2022 Come on Sue, what have you caught?

09.01.2022 The good old days..

08.01.2022 If there are any Citos ladies out there who attended the Christmas party last Wednesday and have photos on their camera/phone could they please either email me with them or message them to me for inclusion in Citos News next January.

08.01.2022 This week's Welfare and News update.

08.01.2022 2021 bowls calendar is out. It is chocker block full of events. Club events are yet to be included.

07.01.2022 It is with great sadness that I have to report that Dave Reynolds passed away this morning. Dave was a bowling member for many years and also a director of the Club. He suffered from pancreatic cancer but was positive and never lost his sense of humour throughout. RIP DAVE

06.01.2022 This week's welfare and News Update. HAAPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE.

05.01.2022 Today saw our last Club Championship game of the year with the Junior Pairs Final between Hunter Ainsley & Flynn Cooper and Luke Bailey & Isaac Carter. The game was over 10 ends in the 2:4:2 format which allows each of the players a variety of options when playing. Hunter/Flynn set off at a brisk pace and led 5-0 after three ends before Luke/Isaac pulled one back to make it 5-1. The next two ends went to Hunter/Flynn with a two and a four (11-1). Luke/Isaac came back with two ends but his three and a two (11-6 - after 8 ends) weren't enough to dent the lead and Hunter/Flynn scored two singles on the last two ends to win the game 13-6. Whilst Luke and Isaac played well the pairing of Hunter and Flynn had their measure and were worthy champions. CONGRATULATIONS - HUNTER & FLYNN Commiserations - Luke and Isaac.

05.01.2022 JUNIOR PAIRS FINAL Tomorrow in the junior pairs final the team of Isaac Carter & Luke Bailey take on the team of Flynn Cooper and Hunter Ainsley. The game starts at 3.00 pm and based on the standard of our junior bowls this year it should be a great game.

05.01.2022 This afternoons game was going to be won by a team in Green and Yellow shirts. Unfortunately it was the shirts of Figtree that won out. Conditions had changed from the morning game and Figtree handled them better than Citos. Whilst this morning we were peppering the jack, this afternoon our shots were either a fraction wide or the length was not there. Whilst we scored first Figtree responded and after end seven were never headed. Whilst we picked up the odd shot or two Fig...tree pegged away scoring the odd one or two shots. The real killer was on end 14 where they picked up a 5 to lead 17-8. From then on whilst we picked up a 4 on end 17 it was all Figtree who went on to win deservedly 24-12. It was a great day's bowling played in great spirit and for us to reach the Semi Final was a great effort by our team. WELL DONE GUYS. BETTER LUCK NEXT YEAR See more

05.01.2022 DON"T FORGET Ladies Triples Final tomorrow morning - Tuesday 13th. The weather looks good and the teams are ready to go!!

05.01.2022 This week's Citos Welfare and News Update. Since this was written we now have Reg Allenson in Shellharbour Private Hospital after breaking his shoulder in a fall. Get well soon Reg.

05.01.2022 For those who are interested, THE BOWLS SHOW returns on Sunday 13th Septrmber at 3.30 pm on 7TWO with a special that includes a visit to clubs affected by the bush fires earlier this year. I'm not sure if this is the first of the new season or not.

05.01.2022 Corrected version. My apologies to Ernie for my error.

03.01.2022 Citos Ladies Nominated Pairs Final. Congratulations to Kim Suckley and Chris Ellem who beat Agnes Chalker and Sally Golding in today's Ladies Nominated Pairs Final by 26 shots to 9. Whilst Agnes and Sally are skilled bowlers, on the day, they met their match and were well beaten by a couple of ladies who were on fire. After 6 ends Kim and Chris we leading 8-2 when Agnes and Sally picked up a four to make it 8-6 and it was game on. However a series of ones and twos follwed by... a four and a five saw the lead shoot out to 21-6 before Agnes and Sally picked up three on the next two ends. A one and a four on the 15th and 16th ends brought the game to a premature end at 26-9. Many of the ends went down to a measure and on end 13 Agnes and Sally were holding 5 shots when Kim drove into the head to reduce it to two shots and then Agnes unfortunately disturbed the head and she and Sally only picked up one shot. The shot of the day had to be on the 16th when down in a crowded head Kim drove the kitty into the ditch with Chris holding the next three shots. Whatever Agnes did she wasn't going to reduce the 4 shots and it was game over. A most entertaining game with some great bowls played. Thank you ladies. See more

03.01.2022 Dave's funeral is next Wednesday the 9th September at 10.00 am at the Lakeside Cemetery. I can't be sure but I think with Covid restrictions it will be family only.

03.01.2022 Dapto Citizens Ladies Triples Final Congratulations to the triples team of Linda Meiser, Chris Ellem and Kim Suckley who beat the team of Margaret Haviland, Heather Downie and Chris Docherty by 26 shots to 15 in today's final. Whilst the weather was glorious and without a cloud in the sky the green was unpredictable at times and while none of the ladies played badly they didn't play to their potential. This was mainly due to the bowls slowing considerably towards the head, a ...slight wind and narrow hands difficult to negotiate. However, Chris Docherty's team took and early lead with a one shot followed by a four. This was immediately followed by a four from Kim's team. From then on it was fairly even with the Docherty team hold in a one shot lead at 9-8 after 8 ends. Kim's team then scored 6 unanswered ends to lead 19-9 after 13 ends. The last 8 ends went 4 to each side but a telling 4 on the 18th for Kim's team put them in the virtually unbeatable lead of 24-13 from where they went on to win 26-15. It was a great game to watch and played in a sporting manner with each team applauding good shots on either side. Thanks go to Carol Davis for umpiring although her expertise was only called upon once during the game See more

02.01.2022 Photos from today's ladies triples final

02.01.2022 2021 Club Championship nomination forms are up. All entries close on the 29th January. The idea of this is to enable players to get a head start on the events, to limit double headers. We are aware people have work commitments that affect them playing double headers etc, we empathise, however the program is so full and the amount of rounds we require due to the number of bowlers at Citos makes these play or forfeit dates unavoidable.

02.01.2022 At the recent AGM of the Dapto Citizens Women's Bowling Club the following were elected Office Bearers. PRESIDENT: Darlene Woods. VICE PRESIDENTS: Beryl Anderson & Faye Butson.
