19.01.2022 There is a lot of misinformation in the community detailing what private building consultants such as Darbecca and the like can and cannot do under the COVID Stage 4 restrictions. Darbecca has carefully read the current restrictions and taken legal advice. The restrictions only permit the homeowner to attend for the purpose of signing the contract and conducting the final inspection. We have no more right to attend site than what you do. Others may tell you that they can at...tend to undertake inspections. The current restrictions only permit statutorily mandated inspections to be carried out. These are inspections that are stipulated on your building permit. It is stipulated in the restrictions that workers who attend must be attending for inspection and safety. The only person who can carry out those inspections are the Building Surveyor, or a Building Inspector appointed by the Building Surveyor. A building consultant appointed by yourself does not qualify and cannot attend stage inspections except for the Final under the current stage 4 restrictions. Darbecca has been actively lobbying all levels of Government on your behalf since these restrictions were introduced. Unfortunately, a response has not yet been received. Our position on final inspections is not one that we have made, but one that is forced upon us by the COVID-19 stage 4 restrictions. If we could attend and undertake all inspections, we would. We too have workers who at present cannot attend and cannot earn an income. The restrictions, however, cannot be worked around. Darbecca will and must comply with the law. We understand your desire to have your rights protected and we will assist in any way that we can. However, our assistance must be lawful. We suggest if others are telling you that the restrictions do not apply, you should ask for proof by way of correspondence from a Government office. Reliance on an interpretation that results in a benefit to the interpreter should be independently assessed. We urge all to proceed with caution if engaging any individual or business that is claiming business as normal. Once the restrictions are lifted, we will be ready.

11.01.2022 When a tradesman cuts the concrete exposing two defects with the concrete installation. Paving not at the minimum required thickness and the mesh was not lifted up into the concrete.
