20.01.2022 Where we discuss anything and everything to do with business communications and technology
20.01.2022 No video update tonight. Instead we'll link to the live stream interview we had with Kevin Gammie of Brisbane Small Business. We started talking about the Efficiency Biz program in the interview. We are taking bookings now for 30 minute one on one video conferences with business owners who are looking for ways to make sense of all changes being forced on us. Head over to calendly.com/darbeth to book a session - just $30 for the consultancy. Lastly, if you run a small business or earn your money from a small business, then please consider supporting the petition that Kevin has started to get the Qld government to provide support for small businesses during the crisis.

16.01.2022 COVID Update 1 May: How safe is the COVID Safe App?
15.01.2022 This video looks normal, and that actually makes us very happy. We have a new camera in out kit, and this footage was shot at night in "challenging" lighting conditions, but it still looks ok as a video. This means we can shoot video for our clients in a wider range of situations and still put out an acceptable result. It is surprising just how difficult some indoor shoots can be from a lighting perspective. Our eyes adjust, but not necessarily the camera.
14.01.2022 WiFi deadspots are a fact of life, and there are several options for getting around them. WiFi extenders and Mesh systems are the most popular options for homes and small businesses, and this video briefly discusses the two options. One is not better than the other, so you do need to work out which is the better option for the specific situation you have, or alternatively you can contact us and we will walk you through the options. (We released a quick livestream review of these devices on 2 June. This is the edited video of those products.) Please like and share the video with others who will find this useful.

12.01.2022 A major update to Windows is available but at this stage it is still optional. Don't install this update just yet unless you have a reason to as there are still issues that Microsoft are working on. One that Microsoft doesn't list on it's official page is that in some specific circumstances the update starts but will not complete. To increase the chances of recovering from this, manually create a restore point before starting the update. (See https://support.microsoft.com//windows-create-a-system-res for instructions) This should happen automatically as part of the update, but when there are issues with the update itself the restore points don't always work.

11.01.2022 So what do you do to login to the ATO now that AUSkey has been decommissioned? Well there is only one choice really.but it isn't necessarily smooth sailing. Hopefully our experiences with myGovID and RAM will make life easier for you.
10.01.2022 COVID Update 24 Apr: Light at the end of the tunnel? Business restructuring.
08.01.2022 With all the discussion that happened with the COVID Safe app, it's really only now that it has been released that we can talk about what is actually happening. I must admit that initially I was more than a little cautious, but now that I have seen some technical reviews it's clear that my initial thoughts about the way the data would be handled were inaccurate. The contact data is held on the phone until the owner of the phone releases it. One of the reviews confirmed that there were no attempts by the app to contact an external server. This video explains how the app operates and why I changed my mind about it's security. There is a lot that didn't get into the video, so please feel free to ask questions as I am sure that others have the same question as well.
07.01.2022 It's one thing to know what to say, but do people hear it accurately? In this video, we talk about the importance of knowing your audience. If you know what to say, the audience tells you how to say it. This video goes into details of this process.

04.01.2022 COVID Update 15 Apr 20. myGovID wont go away. Another COVID hotline to setup
03.01.2022 "They" say the NBN rollout is complete. Well that is a bit like being "mostly dead" in the Princess Bride. The Rollout is mostly complete, and there are still plenty of places where we are helping businesses get connected. As NBN advisers we have more access to the NBN team than most, but it is still hard work to finalise some of these connections.
