19.01.2022 Why did you start your own business? I always start by asking my clients this for handmade business owners, the WHY the most important part of your business strategy. For our Maker of the Month, Michelle from August Studios, her WHY is her love of design, her love of handmade and the opportunity to share her passion with her customers: My customers are everything! They are people who love textiles, and who appreciate the artisanal elements of creating designs from scratch.... They too are often creatives, whether it’s making cushions, bags or clothes from my fabrics, or interior designers & stylists using my finished handmade products like pillowcases. www.auguststudios.com.au

18.01.2022 #TuesdayTip The reality at the moment is that a lot of us will need to stop spending money in our business for a while. Marketing doesn't have to cost money. I've put together three ways to keep your brand present, even if your marketing budget is down to zero.... #smallbizlove

15.01.2022 It feels a bit hard to plan ahead at the moment, with changes being announced almost by the minute. But one thing's for sure - #MothersDay is on May 10, less than 2 months away This means you need to be planning now:... Special offer or promos - do you have a particular product or service you'll be selling for Mother's Day? Stock - whether you're a creator or a business owner, you need to start planning the stock levels you'll need (this is trickier than usual this year, but still worth planning). Promotions - will you be promoting Mother's Day products on your email, social, website or blog? It's never too early to get this content created. Lead times - when you account for postage times plus production times if you're offering a custom product, it's best to order your Mother's Day gift at LEAST 3 weeks in advance, so make sure you launch your promos early enough and be clear about cut off dates so your customers don't miss out. 15.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what’s in it for you when you decide to #supportlocal? Wonder no more! When you buy a product from a local handmade business owner, you don’t just get a product, you get their passion for the product, years of experience and attention to detail that is second to none. Our Maker of the Month, Michelle from August Studios is no exception when it comes to her fabrics:... I use a mid-weight Linen Cotton and that’s so versatile. Natural fibres wash and wear really well, and they are printed with reactive dyes which means they are embedded into the fibres, This method produces a higher quality print which in the end means a longer-lasting product for the customer. Having worked with high-quality textiles for a long time it’s really important to me to have a fabric that performs well for whatever the end product will be. Take a look at her beautiful fabrics through August Studios - shipping is free throughout Australia at the moment AND you can use the code DARCY for a 10% discount. #fortheloveofhandmade
14.01.2022 Our aim is to help handmade business owners build the business of their dreams. Do you know someone who fits the bill? Is it you? Send us a message for more details or if you'd like to be featured (it's free!)
14.01.2022 #fridayfeels I've been working on a very special client project recently, creating web content for a start-up that will soon be launching a fundraising platform. The client is passionate about fundraising and loves the inspirational speaking style of Steve Jobs, so he wanted web content that could similarly inspire people. I LOVE the chance to get a bit creative with content, but it's also just one part of the puzzle. To create the perfect web content I also have to consider ...the 'boring' stuff, such as: Keywords Page structure Internal links and CTAs Engagement Usability Clarity I can't wait to share this project with you when it launches next month

08.01.2022 Here is some #motivationMonday goodness. We just set ourselves a 66 day business challenge (in house). If you ever need a good habit to stick - Research shows that it takes 66 days to make that a life long habit (reference Charles Duig - The Power of Habit)
08.01.2022 Do you know the difference between your goal and your 'why'? It's an important difference for small business owners and solopreneurs. GOAL: Specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and timely (SMART). This is the business side of things - it's one sentence that creates the focus for all the actions you take to drive your business forward. ... WHY: This is what drives you personally. It might include things like a passion for creativity, work-life balance or being part of a community. As a small business owner, this is what will keep you going when your goal is feeling a bit far away. Take five minutes to write down your WHY and stick it on the wall as a little reminder whenever you need it Download our freebies and get a free Marketing Goal template to get started www.darcymarketing.com.au/freebies Rebecca Freeman on Unsplash
06.01.2022 How is your customer avatar dealing with self-isolation and social distancing? It's important to keep your audience front and centre in all your communications - think about how Coronvirus is impacting them because it might be different to the way it's impacting you. As a starting point think about these questions: Do they relish the isolation and the chance to spend time at home, or are they going crazy? ... Do they have children to home school or entertain? Are they able to use technology to stay in touch or is this a challenge? Are they comfortable with online shopping or is this a new world for them? Knowing the answers to these questions will make your marketing communications much more meaningful during these crazy times. Christian Bowen on Unsplash
04.01.2022 #tuesdaytip Are you using an email strategy? If you sell your products online, then you have the opportunity to turn your fans into loyal, repeat customers, simply by staying in touch. TOP TIPS: - Make sure people know they've opted in - people will unsubscribe FAST if they think they're getting spam.... - Entertain and educate - give your audience some value, not just a sales message. - Timing - deliver the right information at the right tip. Plan out special events and celebrations and help your audience plan for them by creating emails and offers at just the right time (if you're offering products as gifts, make sure you allow enough time for shipping - deadlines creep up fast!) Your email strategy doesn't have to be time-consuming. You can automate the process so new subscribers are automatically synced to your email list and make use of templates so dropping in fresh content is quick as a flash. Debby Hudson on Unsplash.
