20.01.2022 2-DAY CPET TO DIAGNOSE ME/CFS Researchers at the University of South Australia have shown that 2-day cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) can be used to diag...nose Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS). Work Rate decreased from day 1 to day 2 and by a greater magnitude in ME/CFS patients compared to controls. 06.01.2022 SEVERITY OF MONONUCLEOSIS CAN PREDICT ONSET OF CFS Students with infectious mononucleosis can now be assessed using a newly validated tool to predict if they ar...e likely to develop Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. "This allows an opportunity to potentially intervene early in efforts to prevent chronic fatigue syndrome that develops in this setting," says lead author Ben Katz, MD. "Our simple and objective assessment tool allows clinicians to identify patients at risk for more serious infectious mononucleosis, including those who might develop chronic fatigue syndrome following infectious mononucleosis." RESEARCH SUMMARY: "To assess risk factors for chronic fatigue syndrome after mononucleosis, researchers developed and validated a scale for rating the severity of mononucleosis. In a study with 126 college students, they found that participants with a higher mononucleosis severity score had over three times the risk of meeting two or more sets of diagnostic criteria for chronic fatigue syndrome after six months."
