23.01.2022 Merry Christmas everyone!!
21.01.2022 Dardanup CC AGM will be on Tuesday the 20th of August at the clubrooms. Starting at 730. Would be great to see a good turnout.
20.01.2022 It’s even worse than we thought... Two Cleanaway community meetings attended by almost 200 people heard - At least one of the monitoring bores on the landfill is showing evidence of PFAS contamination. PFAS is found in fire fighting foam and many other previously abundant sources now languishing in rubbish tips. (You may still have items containing PFAS in your home or garage) Cleanaway are about to sign a lease on approx 86 hectares adjoining their current site. They...Continue reading
19.01.2022 FYI from the Dardanup locals fb group Of interest from the Council briefing yesterday - Cleanaway applied to the Dept of Water & Environmental Regulation (DWER) to construct and operate a Lithium Tailings storage cell and to the Shire Council for the associated Leachate pond. Thanks initially to a small DWER advert in a newspaper, there are community submissions in against both applications.... DWER referred theirs to the Council, who are not supporting the application on the grounds that Cleanaway have not applied for Shire development approval for this cell. NOTE - If the application to change the classification of Lot 2 to ‘Waste Disposal Facility’ had been already approved by Council, then Cleanaway would have been correct in just applying to DWER to build the cell and store the lithium tailings. So our community submissions have already had an impact! AND our objection on the grounds that the Council control over the site is being diluted have proven right. Cleanaway are now in the process of applying to the Council for development approval for the lithium tailings cell. As a community we now have the opportunity to lodge submissions to the Shire against the forthcoming application for development approval for the Lithium tailings cell. If you are concerned about the storage of powdered lithium tailings (containing heavy metals including the extremely dangerous Beryllium) uphill from our town and above our aquifers, COME TO THE DARDANUP HALL ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT. Our Council needs to be accountable to residents.
17.01.2022 A good start to the season for Dardanup Cricket yesterday with both grades winning their respective games. At home, 3rd grade chased down Marist's 165 with a few overs to spare. M Kemp (52), J Kowal (45) and J Walker 2/16 the best performers. While at Hay Park, 5th grade managed to scrape home against Colts chasing ~120. T Cowdrey the destroyer with a 5 wicket haul. Let's build on the weekends performance's with a good turnout for Thursday's training. Also if you're unavailab...le for a game this season please let your captains know as soon as possible. See you all Thursday!
14.01.2022 The E grade game has been called off this weekend. Get down and support the Cs at dalyellup
12.01.2022 Check the Shire of Dardanup website for details about the public meetings. Get involved and say NO! From the Dardanup locals FB group Russell Sheridan asked me to post this -... BANKSIA ROAD REFUSE SITE In my 40 years as a Dardanup resident the clearest message that this community has expressed to it’s council early 2004 town hall of residents was that we did not approve of changing the class 2 to class 3 and that we certainly did not want the tip to be expanded to an open regional site. Council adopted this concern back then and it was overruled by the state government. We where given assurances that landfill would be phased out 2020. Clearly untrue. The alarm has been raised again now . What is at issue: 1. Town planning has adopted and expanded this large area of Banksia road for the disposal of waste which is in effect facilitating the expansion. (Local Planning Strategy) 2. The proposed plan changes land use from rural to waste 3. Pressure and risk of more hazardous risk class 3 has been applied for 4. Pressure and risk from increased trucking on roads 5. Risk of dust born lithium, mercury and - from trucking and from the site 3 kilometres from the township. 6. Legacy of remediation of contamination 7. Effect on air and water quality This site is becoming increasingly more visible and unpleasant and noisy as it has grown. Not only does it appear not to be ceasing by 2020 but rather planning to grow exponentially . This matters because it conflicts with the assurances we expected to be honoured. It matters because it conflicts with the vast majority of landholders aspirations for a clean environment for their families and livestock, for tourism to remain attractive and not spoiled by one or two operations focused on waste from all comers. It matters because it is plainly not fair ~ it puts at risk our quality of life and the value of our homes. What can be done - it’s quite simple, contain developments and revert land use to rural.
