18.01.2022 Darebin Council is going to demolish the old grandstand at Bill Lawry oval. It’s one of the few heritage grandstands in Darebin. The argument is based on ‘technical advice about structural integrity’. There’s nothing in this website post that explains why. And why is the Manager of Recreation and Libraries the respondent to community responses?

12.01.2022 All seven councillors who re-contested the Darebin Council election polled strongly on first preferences and will be re-elected. The toughest fight for an incum...bent was in Central Ward where Lina Messina (Independent) narrowly held off Esther Kennedy (Greens). She is expected to win despite a youthful demographic which favours the Greens, and many Labor-aligned candidates putting her last on their how-to-vote cards. That leaves two wards where there will be first time councillors.* Emily Dimitriadis (Labor Members for Darebin) polled very strongly on first preferences and won the South East Ward. The deal she made with a Liberal Party member to preference each other ahead of the Greens had little impact. Tom Hannan (Greens) won against strong contender Chiara Lawry (Labor Members for Darebin) in the South Ward. With Gaetano Greco (Independent) typically voting with Labor members and Susan Rennie (Independent) often voting with the Greens, the balance of the new council is evenly poised. The casting vote on Darebin Council will be held by Lina Messina (Independent). Despite many candidates who appear to have stood only to pass preferences the final distribution was unpredictable in most wards. The preference deal between Labor Members for Darebin and Victorian Socialists (VS) in eight wards failed to influence the outcome as intended. VS had a low first preference vote in these wards and their voters gave most of their second preferences to Greens candidates. 07.01.2022 Some nostalgia from an earlier Darebin Council election, 10 October 2012 (Northcote Leader). The same advice continues to apply - watch out for dummies. "They... (dummies) nominate late, don't provide contact details, don't answer questionnaires and don't attend community forums." Darebin Community Network
