25.01.2022 With local government elections in full swing, we've been in touch with candidates for SE Ward in Darebin and Chelsworth Ward in Banyule. We asked what they would do to respond to the challenges faced by the Parklands - and what actions they would take to promote and improve its bushland character, maintaining it as a wildlife haven and place to appreciate nature. We've received six responses so far. Candidates have highlighted the valuable role played by the Parklands in c...ommunity wellbeing and providing habitat for flora and fauna, plus the need for community input into decisions. Read their responses in full via the link below - we encourage you to keep them in mind as you cast your ballot.

17.01.2022 Darebin Creek not so sedate today!

16.01.2022 Thanks Alphington, such a gorgeous place to watch the sky change colour as the sun sets.

16.01.2022 This very sad post reminds us all that snake season is well & truly upon us. Tiger snakes are throughout the parklands, on & off the paths. Please keep an eye out & keeping your dog on lead in all areas (except the dog off lead area), will help ensure their protection.

15.01.2022 A glorious day to spend outside - are you new to the Darebin Parklands? Wed love to hear what you think.

15.01.2022 We know that some of you would love a print of Carlys beautiful watercolour map of the park - heres your chance

14.01.2022 Many of you know that the Parklands are cared for by a team of Rangers. Regular visitors would have seen Pete and Kate planting, mowing, creating habitat, managing waste and maintaining paths, nest boxes, ponds and other infrastructure. While we are under Stage 4 restrictions, the Rangers will not be doing their usual work. Any matters concerning the management of the Parklands that you would normally raise with Pete or Kate should be directed to Council until Stage 4 restri...ctions are lifted. Council is maintaining a response team to manage Parklands issues as they arise. This decision has been made to comply with Victorian Government guidelines, and the consistent application of these across all Council parks. Darebin Parklands Association and Darebin Creek Management Committee fully support the measures the Government and Councils are taking to keep the public and our staff safe and bring the epidemic under control. Dont worry, the staff are still employed just not in the Parklands. They are frustrated that they cannot manage the Parklands with their usual care and diligence under the current extreme circumstances, but wish to pass on their hopes that you all stay safe, and look forward to seeing you all again in easier and healthier times.

14.01.2022 Lisa Hui, this photo is beautiful!

12.01.2022 Stunning photos. Thanks Christopher Stenton.

12.01.2022 Over the past few months, many people have remarked how lucky we are to have the Parklands in such a built-up area. This article by Rachel Eddie considers the impact of the lockdown on our green spaces, with input from across Melbourne, including our own indomitable Ranger Peter Wiltshire. As we move into eased restrictions, we're looking at what we have learned from this period - and what this may mean for management of the Parklands hereon. ... Stay tuned for your opportunity to be involved, via input into the Darebin Parklands Management Plan.

11.01.2022 Thanks Lisa Hui for the video.

09.01.2022 Great view tonight. Thanks Lisa Hui.

09.01.2022 Beautiful day in the Parklands today, & even better when you hear the laughter of these guys!

08.01.2022 Weve been asked to share this message about a missing person - while his last confirmed sighting was in South Melbourne, evidence suggests he may have visited Heidelberg and the Parklands.

08.01.2022 Thanks for sharing Friends of Merri Creek, we love this!

07.01.2022 The Aussie Backyard Bird Count starts today! To join in, you need to spend 20 minutes sitting in the one spot, counting the birds you see or hear - you can use the resources from Birdlife Australia to identify the birds, then submit your count. Birdwatching has really taken off over the last few months - we're looking forward to seeing a bumper number of submissions this year.

06.01.2022 Some of you have noticed that the beehives are not in the park at the moment - happily, they are in Mildura helping with the almond and citrus crops. If youre keen to know more about the vital role played by bees, tune into this event with Benedict, The Practical Beekeeper.

05.01.2022 Happy birthday Warringal Conservation Society - congratulations on five decades of hard work and a long list of environmental and advocacy achievements

05.01.2022 Thanks Lisa Hui for this shoutout to our hardworking Rangers - we are seeing huge volumes of people and dogs in the park at the moment...

03.01.2022 Due to current Covid-19 restrictions, please remember the 4 reasons to be out & about. Please only visit the Parklands if exercising. Our park rangers are still working hard in the Parklands, so please remember social distancing rules & give them plenty of space, particularly when near the paths. Thank you for your continued cooperation.

02.01.2022 Happy Wattle Day, Parklands people! Did you that Wattle Day was first celebrated well over 100 years ago? Wattle was a strong symbol of patriotism across the two world wars, when the Red Cross sold sprigs of wattle to raise funds. Today, youll find it in bloom across the park - we hope you enjoy it.

01.01.2022 If youve been a little bored over the past few weeks, you might like to pick up one of our gorgeous jigsaw puzzles - using this beautiful watercolour map by artist Carly Altree-Williams. Order via this Google form: https://forms.gle/AyTMRUa8ZyuNEHqaA
