If you have a mask, please wear it. If you do not have one, we will give you one if possible.... Visitors hours have also been further restricted to 10am to 12noon and 5pm to 7pm each day. 12.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE - Please bring your own mask if visiting patients Anyone visiting a patient in a Far West LHD facility is asked to bring their own mask or face covering to wear, as part of new COVID-19 measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus in LHD facilities. The wearing of a mask or face covering whilst visiting a patient in a FWLHD facility was made mandatory last week (Friday, 24 July 2020)... . The health service is now asking visitors to bring their own mask or face covering. This will assist the health service in the monitoring of its supply of masks for use by staff and patients. This rule also applies to anyone attending a medical appointment in a FWLHD health service. Patients will not be refused treatment if their clinical condition does not allow them to wear a mask, The new NSW Health advice on mask use is underpinned by expert risk assessments. Mask wearing is another defence against COVID-19 but it is not a substitute for other established precautions such as hand hygiene and physical distancing. NSW Health has also directed all health workers in public hospitals must now wear a surgical mask if they are working within 1.5m of patients. Patients admitted to hospital are also strongly encouraged to wear a mask, especially when they are leaving their room, where possible. Wearing of face masks by the general population should be considered in situations where you are unable to maintain a physical distance of 1.5m. The public are reminded that visitor hours have also been further restricted to 10am to 12noon and 5pm to 7pm each day. Visitors to Broken Hill Health Service have also been restricted to one visitor per patient per day. These are additional measures to those already in place at FWLHD health services to ensure patient and staff safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new hours do not impact on people with health appointments or attending the Emergency Department. Please avoid all non-essential visits to the hospital. We want to minimise as much as we can, non-essential foot traffic through the health service. This will help in the event of an outbreak and contact tracing is required. Individual circumstances impacted by the new arrangements may be considered on a case by case basis through requests to health service management. The new arrangements will be in place indefinitely at this stage. Signs will be displayed about the new restrictions and information passed out at the entry Concierge service.

12.01.2022 IMPORTANT: Travelling from SA to NSW? Today the NSW Government has introduced important new public health measures that will help keep residents in NSW, and other parts of Australia, healthy and safe, and also assist South Australia to contain their new COVID-19 cases. NSW Health is asking people coming to NSW from South Australia, by whatever mode of transport, to complete a declaration form to check if they have visited any of the venues of concern identified by the South A...ustralian authorities and provide contact details if follow-up is required. This also applies people who have been in South Australia within the past 14 days. The form is available here: https://bit.ly/38XiNHw The list of venues of concern are available here: https://bit.ly/2UCfPja Anyone who has been in South Australia since Friday 6 November should regularly monitor the SA Health alert page for venues of concern and follow the advice of SA Health. They must immediately self-isolate if they have been to any venues where this is advised, and get tested if even the mildest of symptoms appear. Travellers who are not NSW residents who have visited any of these venues will not be permitted to travel to NSW until the 14-day period has elapsed. Non-residents wishing to transit through NSW will be allowed to do so, provided they take the most direct route and can do so in a way that poses no risk to others. The form will be distributed to South Australian travellers arriving at NSW transport hubs such as airports, and in areas such as Broken Hill which is a high-traffic location. Travellers are asked to fill in the form within the 24-hour period before they arrive in NSW, and may be asked to produce their declaration form. The details provided through the form will be important for NSW contact tracing efforts, which have been shown to play a vital role in limiting the spread of COVID-19. NSW Health continues to advise NSW residents to defer non-essential travel to Adelaide, while people from Adelaide should defer non-essential travel to NSW.
10.01.2022 Aboriginal recording artists Nooky and Mi-Kaisha Masella have collaborated to produce a new track that encourages young Aboriginal people to keep themselves and their communities safe from COVID-19. Aboriginal people in New South Wales are at greater risk of serious illness and death from COVID-19. This heightened risk makes it essential for frequent and reliable information to reach and circulate within Aboriginal communities. I was motivated to be part of this project bec...ause I knew how important it was to amplify Indigenous voices and the message of keeping mob safe during the pandemic, Darumbal, Murri and Tongan woman Mi-Kaisha said. I knew how greatly COVID-19 had impacted the wellbeing of Mob and wanted to create music with a message of encouragement. Co-written and performed by Mi-Kaisha with hip hop artist and Yuin man Nooky, the track speaks to Aboriginal youth about their role in keeping their communities safe. The video clip, recorded in Sydneys inner-city suburb of Redfern, features choreography by Yuin, Bundjalung, Munanjali, Gamillaraay and Murray Island nations man, Darren Compton. Its a critical time in the fight against COVID-19. Its important for our Mob to know that weve still got to practice social distancing, good hygiene, washing our hands, things like that, and thats what this track is about, helping get that message out there, Nooky said. I know our mob want to hang out with family but weve got to think of other people during this, especially our Elders, I know things are tough but well get through it together. Key themes include keeping a safe distance from others, keeping in contact with people during isolation, and drawing strength from the Aboriginal cultural sense of family and community connectedness. I hope it reassures people and encourages Mob to continue to stay COVID safe. We encourage everyone to keep social distancing, washing hands, even wearing a mask in public spaces and doing what we can to stop the spread, Mi-Kaisha said. The track, titled One Point 5, and accompanying music video are part of NSW Healths COVID-19 Aboriginal Communications Strategy, developed in partnership with First Nations agency, 33 Creative, and forms an important part of the multi-pronged approach the NSW Government is taking to communicating about COVID-19. If you need social and emotional wellbeing support, call the COVID-19 mental health line: 1800 512 348. For the latest information on COVID-19, visit nsw.gov.au.
10.01.2022 Dr Jan Fizzell (NSW Health Medical Advisor) has some important advice for those living in FWLHD communities along the Victorian border.

09.01.2022 IMPORTANT NOTICE - New restricted visitor hours at Far West LHD health services for COVID-19 Visitor hours at Far West LHD health services will be further restricted as of Thursday (23 July 2020) as an added precaution to prevent an outbreak of COVID-19 in those facilities. Visitor hours will be restricted to 10am to 12noon and 5pm to 7pm each day. This is in addition to visitor measures already in place at FWLHD health services to ensure patient and staff safety during the C...OVID-19 pandemic. The new hours come into effect on Thursday, 23 July 2020. They do not impact on people with health appointments or attending the Emergency Department. Mr Umit Agis, Chief Executive, Far West LHD, said the extra visitor arrangements aim to further protect hospital patients, and those more vulnerable to the virus, as well as our staff and ultimately the community. I ask everyone to really think about whether they need to visit their health service at this time. We want to minimise, as much as we can, non-essential foot traffic through the health service. This will help in the event of an outbreak and contact tracing is required, he said. Mr Agis added it would be preferable and safer for the time being for everyone to avoid all non-essential visits to the hospital. He said individual circumstances impacted by the new arrangements may be considered on a case by case basis through requests to health service management. The new arrangements will be in place indefinitely at this stage. Signs will be displayed about the new restrictions and information passed out at the entry Concierge service. I ask everyone to be understanding about this new measure and please have patience with the BHHS concierge and hospital staff, said Mr Agis. It is critical that anyone feeling unwell even with the mildest of symptoms such as a runny nose or scratchy throat seeks testing and self-isolates until they get the result. Stay at home, and do not go to work or catch public transport until you are cleared of COVID-19. Everyone should observe physical distancing and hygiene measures at all times. If you have any questions or concerns about COVID-19 you can call the National COVID 19 Call Centre on 1800 020 080. For any Public Health related issues contact 1300 066 055.

07.01.2022 Be careful during heatwave It's starting to heat up and everyone is urged to be cautious during heatwave conditions that are forecast across the Far West tomorrow and Saturday. You should stay indoors during the heat of the day, minimise your physical activity and keep hydrated during the heatwave.... Take the risk of heat related illnesses seriously - heat wave conditions can cause severe illness, hospital admission and even death. Heat puts a lot of strain on the body and can cause dehydration, heat stress and heat stroke. It can also make underlying health conditions worse. Simple precautions can reduce the risk of heat-related illness. It’s best to try and avoid the heat of the day by staying indoors. If you don’t have air conditioning, using a fan and keeping curtains shut can help to keep you cool. It’s also important to minimise physical activity and to drink plenty of water. It’s also really important to stay in regular contact with elderly neighbours, friends and relatives because they may be more vulnerable to the heat. Signs of heat-related illness include dizziness, tiredness, irritability, thirst, fainting, muscle pains or cramps, headache, changes in skin colour, rapid pulse, shallow breathing, vomiting and confusion. It’s important to get to a cool place quickly if symptoms occur. People showing severe signs of heat-related illness should seek urgent medical attention, in an emergency situation call Triple Zero (000). More information can be found at the NSW Health website: www.health.nsw.gov.au/environment/beattheheat

03.01.2022 Please bring your own mask or face covering if visiting patients The wearing of a mask or face covering whilst visiting a patient in a FWLHD facility is mandatory. and everyone is asked to bring their own mask or face covering to wear. This is part of our COVID-19 measures to prevent an outbreak of the virus in LHD facilities. Bringing your own mask or face covering will help us in the management of our supply of masks for use by staff and patients.... The wearing of a mask or face covering also applies to anyone attending a medical appointment in a FWLHD health service. The new NSW Health advice on mask use is underpinned by expert risk assessments. Mask wearing is another defence against COVID-19 but it is not a substitute for other established precautions such as hand hygiene and physical distancing. Dont forget: 1. If youre unwell, stay home. Get tested. Isolate. 2. Wash your hands regularly. Take hand sanitiser with you when you go out. 3. Keep your distance. Leave 1.5 metres between yourself and others. 4. Wear a mask in situations where you cannot physically distance.
