23.01.2022 Southern United is thrilled by this morning’s news that Melbourne City FC will be moving its training and administration base to Casey Fields. For the region, a...nd for our sport in general, we are incredibly excited by what City’s move to South East Melbourne will bring. Our Club was a huge backer of the ‘Team 11’ A-League and W-League bid. And while we were immensely disappointed our region was not awarded the licence it deserved in 2018, it now seems that good things come to those who wait! We can only hope today’s development also means a new stadium will be built next to the train station in Dandenong in the not too distant future for everyone in the region to enjoy. We will support that push where we can, as we are sure the large majority of grassroots football clubs in the region will do. What does today’s announcement mean for Southern United? Only good things! Our Club owes a huge debt of gratitude to the City of Casey for allowing us to play and train at Casey Fields in 2020. Without that backing from the Council last year, our Club may not exist in its current form today. And we are excited to confirm that from 2021 onwards Southern United will still be given access to the magnificent facilities at Casey Fields. Considering this is where Australia’s No.1 female club football side - Melbourne City’s W-League team will be based is an amazing fillip for our organisation and for women’s and girls’ football in this region. We will have news for you in the coming days about our precise playing and training arrangements for 2021 and beyond. We promise you won’t be disappointed! Here are some thoughts from one of our Coaches Deborah Nichols, who, as we know, is a Matildas legend but was also a ‘Team 11’ ambassador. On the back of Australia and New Zealand winning the right to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup, these are exciting times for women’s football, exciting times for Australian football and exciting times for our Club, Nichols said. Once my head stopped spinning after hearing the news that Melbourne City was moving to Casey Fields my mind hasn’t stopped racing in terms of the possibilities it brings for our Club and for the sport in this region. I’m rapt. Today is an amazing day. Having been involved with the ‘Team 11’ bid I can only say that I truly believe today’s announcement still satisfies all the things the initial bid set out to achieve. I urge you all to get behind Melbourne City’s move and embrace the Club as South East Melbourne’s own, just as we would have ‘Team 11’. See more

05.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we have lost one of our greatest club men, Ted O’Sullivan, today. Ted was a Garryowen stalwart who gave almost all of his life in... Australia to Garryowen. He was involved with nearly every team over the years and did unbelievable work in recent years with the annual Garryowen 9s tournament. His unwavering engergy and gentle smile made him your friend immediately. Our thoughts are with Ted’s family at this time. May he rest in peace. See more

We were lucky enough to have Enda play with us in 2016 and he prov...ed many times what a serious clubman and all round gentleman he was. Our deepest sympathies go out to his partner Emma, daughter Ayla, parents Damian and Bridget and sisters Emma, Eilis and Una (current player for Sinn Fein GAC).
