15.01.2022 *** Darley CC Life Membership Awarded to Meggsy !! *** Few people are more synonymous with the Darley CC than Travis Meggsy Monaghan, and we are delighted to announce that he has been inducted as a Life Member. Meggsy joined the Darley CC in 2002/3 after playing for many years with the BMCC. Meggsy’ s arrival coincided with the Club entering the BCA and he immediately become the Clubs 1st Curator - a position he held for approx 10 years.... He played for the Lions from 2002/03 until he officially retired at the end of 2007/08 season - but he has also filled in on when the occasions SOS went out and players were needed. He also joined the Committee in 2003/04 and served on the Committee for 11 years - only standing down at the end of the 2014/15 season. He Coached Darley Junior teams at U12, U14 and U16 level for 6 years. He was also instrumental in some key projects that the club has carried out - he was a driving force in the installation of the Curators Shed, and along with Matt Cape was a driving force in the Net expansion where he donated many hours and turf to see the project delivered. So after 19 years as a Player, Curator, Coach, Committee member, Volunteer and passionate supporter, we are thrilled to induct Travis Meggsy Monaghan as a Life Member of the Darley CC.

13.01.2022 Congratulations to Jenny Hynes who was awarded Darley CC Life Membership at our 2019/20 Presentation Day last Sunday. Jenny has been a passionate DCC supporter for almost 30 years, & to this day is one of the loudest & proudest supporters we have. Her Husband & 3 of her 4 kids have represented the club - which still includes 3 current players & her daughter Kate who played juniors for 5 years.... Jenny secured businesses without club instruction to sponsor awards for all DCC junior teams over the time her children were in juniors. These businesses included Maccas, KFC, Bakers Delight, Debs House, George’s Fish & Chips & Sopranos Pizza to ensure all kids were recognised. She drives to watch every DCC senior games with family playing & juniors when in finals even without family representation - providing drink barrels, water & homemade afternoon teas for all teams with family represented weekly. She has supported countless DCC functions & donating to fundraisers which included buying cones for Pink Stumps day, Last Man Standing tickets, purchasing trailer raffle tickets & Sponsoring the net extension. Jenny's contribution over 30+ years has been extraordinary and we thank her for efforts in making our club the wonderful family club it is today.

11.01.2022 Coach Brian Wheelahan in "Media Street" again. He is a master of expressing himself eloquently isn't he ? Surely you could have come up with something better than "It Sucks" Wheels ? Reproduced from the Ballarat Courier..... Caged Lions: Darley coach, key player face lock-out After much uncertainty, the Ballarat Cricket Association looks ready to get underway sometime during October, but it's not all smooth sailing for the competition's most eastern club.... Darley currently has its senior coach and a key first grade player unable to be involved in pre-season training. Off-field leader Brian Wheelahan and all-rounder Rahmatullah Khwaja live in the metropolitan Melbourne zone and therefore aren't able to travel to the club's home ground for cricket. It's a bitterly disappointing situation for Wheelahan, who said he might have to consider withdrawing from the role if things don't change in the near future. "It sucks a little bit," Wheelahan said. "It's frustrating for me, but we have got a lot of good people that can run training. Hopefully it's only for three weeks or a month, otherwise if it goes a bit longer I'm going to have to put my hand up and stand down I guess. "I'm spewing because I live 10 minutes down the road but I actually can't get there." Khwaja, who lives in Sunbury, was recruited to Darley for last season and had a big impact as the team eventually secured the first grade premiership. He took 18 wickets in first grade games with his medium pace and chipped in for a few scores in the lower order. The BCA will meet with clubs on Thursday evening to discuss when the 2020-21 season will start after the state government moved regional Victoria to step three of its COVID-19 roadmap. This allows outdoor contact and non-contact sport for people aged 18 and younger and outdoor non-contact sport for adults - with gathering and density limits - to resume. The Lions also have some concerns with junior cricket. The club has under-17 and under-15 teams in the BCA, but also some of its youngest sides in the Melton Junior Cricket Association. It's unclear what will happen with that competition, which is based in the metropolitan zone. Darley went through the 2019-20 firsts season unbeaten and was set to meet Golden Point in the grand final before COVID-19 brought about the cancellation of the decider. The Lions were then declared premiers.
11.01.2022 Once a Lion - Always a Lion Fantastic to see 8 former DCC Coaches joining current Coach Brian Wheelahan yesterday to celebrate the Lions 2019/20 1st 11 BCA Premiership.

10.01.2022 Well done Miles Seager !!
09.01.2022 Update from BCA: Dear BCA members and supporters With the ‘Roadmap to recovery’ presentation distributed yesterday from the Victorian Government we understand that you will all want to know what it means for cricket in the BCA moving forward.... The BCA Board are scheduled to meet next Monday and despite a willingness to provide an update as soon as possible, they will not meet earlier to enable this week for information collection to make any relevant decisions fully informed. As you would all appreciate, the information available is not 100% clear on community sport just yet. If possible, an announcement on BCA competitions will come on Tuesday, September 15. We appreciate that many out there want to know now to allow further planning, however, the BCA are not able to provide anything at the moment. It’s a difficult time, we can only do what we can do, and we’ll do the best we can with what we have. We appreciate everyone’s support in these challenging times. Greg Wakeling Operations Manager Ballarat Cricket Association

01.01.2022 *** Jenny Jordan Awarded Life Membership *** The Darley CC is delighted to advise that our recent Presentation Day that long serving volunteer Jenny Jordan was awarded a Life Membership. Jenny began her involvement with the Lions when she started driving her son Liam to cricket when he started playing 2003/04 season - normally with a car full of kids.... Jenny would watch the Juniors then take a car load to the Seniors. Jenny always had something organised for afternoon tea no matter what grade or where we the game was. She also started doing a Friday night Canteen for the U12s at the Darley Hub (even in the freezing cold and wind) then same again Saturday morning. She always seemed to have a car full of eskies, drinks, bbq. Jenny seems to always be at the Club, but the amount of time that people don’t see behind the scenes. Whilst at home she is often preparing afternoon tea, dinners, canteen etc. Jenny always prepare catering for Functions, selection dinners, Saturday night bistro it is estimated she has raised approx. $60,000 for the DCC over the past 10 years. Jenny deservedly won Cricket Victoria’s outstanding Volunteer award in 2016/17, and there is no doubt that one reason why the club is such a great club off field is due to Jenny's outstanding efforts over many years. Congrats to our newest & very deserving Life Member !!
