18.01.2022 At class this morning we delved deep into the Taiso Daruma for the duration of the 2 hour class. Described as the longest kata of Goju Ryu, it demands as much a...ttention to detail and correction as the classical forms do. The longer I spend in the art, the less interested I am in application and fighting. I learnt all I needed about that in real time, and to be honest, for anybody needing to learn to fight, you need to go fight; not concern yourself with martial arts. Gung Fu, a skill acquired through hard work. This is the art. The art itself consists of various strands which interlink to form the whole. Much like a thick rope. Each individual strand is important in its own right, but does not take precedence when it comes to holding the load. Fighting or use within fighting is one such strand. Get that done early, preferably while youre young and dumb, before nature or society catches up with you. Once you have it, you have it. The rest of the art, thats the hard part (the bits nobody wants to do). Above all else, dont get trapped within the weird subculture of the martial arts and allow it to turn you into a douche. The arts will accentuate all your traits, good & bad. Avoid forums like the plague, avoid YouTube martial arts, avoid hero worship, and do everything you can to not BE worshipped by your own followers. Dont be afraid to show your flaws and weaknesses. Get on the floor, sweat, struggle, and enjoy the process. For those out there still looking for the secrets, I just told you them. Cheques in the mail please See more
