23.01.2022 Mini wetbags are so handy! They’re great for snacks and makeup and and toiletries, and mini toys and breast pumps and menstrual pads, and so much more! What do you use them for?

22.01.2022 How did you choose your children’s LAST name? As they’ve gotten older, I really regret not including my last name in my children’s names, even in the middle...

21.01.2022 A flashback to when we used to do the big expos & our baby brother would help on the stands. Seven years later Sam is celebrating his very first Father’s Day, under lockdown, in a situation where our whole family has missed the cuddles and newborn stage of its newest member. There are so many families who are going through this at the moment. New mums who don’t have visitors in hospital or a mother’s group with new friends to make, isolation for new parents at a time when families & friends traditionally come together, and sharing milestones over screens. It’s really hard... Happy Fathers Day to our Sam and to all the awesome dads - especially those struggling through tough times.

21.01.2022 Mini wetbags are PERFECT for keeping your spare reusable masks clean, and for transporting your used ones home. https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au//wet-bags-pai/wetbags

20.01.2022 What a great idea!

19.01.2022 Have you seen the revamped Cheeky Wipes Kits? Cheeky Wipes Kits are super popular at the moment - Mini Kits are fab for cloth nappying families, but the All-in-One Kits are fantastic for parents who haven’t made the leap to cloth nappies yet, but want to use reusable wipes. It comes with everything you need to switch from disposable wipes and make it easy! Available in store or online: https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au/brands/cheeky-wipes

18.01.2022 A big pile of fluff gets turned into neat stacks of nappies when we get a delivery from Bubblebubs!

18.01.2022 Just an update...

18.01.2022 When you want a complete, done-for-you reusable wipes system, Cheeky Wipes is the best! Created by a mum, Helen, in 2008 to provide a simple, easy to use, one-handed way for people to use cloth wipes, this has become a staple product for many parents. Find them here: www.darlingsdownunder.com.au/brands/cheeky-wipes

17.01.2022 This is really interesting...

16.01.2022 More Melbourne babies are needed for a food allergy study underway at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute at the Royal Children’s Hospital. It’s called the Vitality Study and they’re looking at whether Vitamin D can help to prevent food allergy. They need 3500 babies and have 2000 enrolled already. They are looking for babies under 12 weeks but also pregnant women to register their interest (the study will be running in 2021 as well).... Because of COVID restrictions, the researchers are unable to attend MCH new parent groups and council immunisation sessions to chat with parents so are reliant on online recruitment and social media atm, so please share the details with anyone you think might be interested. Here’s the link to register your interest: https://www.mcri.edu.au/research/projects/vitality-study

16.01.2022 I spy with my little eye... something new that will be available soon...

16.01.2022 Baby Bare's cover-in-all-up smocks are awesome not only for messy mealtimes, but for all the other fun that toddlers get up to. These versatile smocks come in 2 sizes (small fits 6-18 months & large 18-36 months) and make an excellent Christmas present. Find them instore or here: https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au//baby/baby-bare-smock

15.01.2022 FAQ Friday: This question has popped up a few times recently, asked by parents who wonder if they should add an antibacterial laundry rinse - like Canestan or Dettol - to their nappy washing routine.

12.01.2022 Brolly Sheets: one of the most useful products ever! Brolly Sheets are designed to be laid on the sheet (no more stripping and remaking the bed in the middle of the night - just remove the Brolly Sheet), and they have a quiet waterproof PUL backing (no PVC). Not just great for toilet learners - also for kids with tummy bugs, and breastfeeding mums!... https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au/brands/brolly-sheets

11.01.2022 It's R U OK Day today, and a lot of us aren't really OK at the moment. We both have teenagers, and this video (made by a teenage film maker) was shared with me yesterday and really reflects the reality of so many kids in Victoria, and especially those in Melbourne who will now not be returning to school until at least the end of October. If you have a teenager in your life - especially if you aren't their parent - consider giving them a call to chat or send them a care package. It could make a big difference. https://youtu.be/mqPidd9k3io

10.01.2022 Bare & Boho V3 OSFM Hemp nappies in three gorgeous prints are now available at Darlings Downunder! Find them here: https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au/brands/bare-and-boho

09.01.2022 A last look around the shop before temporarily closing to customers for 6 weeks under COVID 19 Stage 4 restrictions. Website orders will still be packed & posted every day throughout this period, and we’ll see you on the other side

08.01.2022 To all our lovely customers: Yes, the shop will be open tomorrow 9:30am-2:30pm and contactless pick up remains an option. We’ll also be packing and shipping website orders during this time. Once the government has announced the new restrictions for businesses tomorrow, we’ll be able to let you know what the next few weeks will look like here at Darlings Downunder. We’re hoping we’ll be able to process and despatch website orders as usual, even if we have to close the shop for... a period of time. THANK YOU to everyone who’s sent us messages to let us know you're thinking of us. It means a lot x Fiona & Catherine

07.01.2022 The new Bubblebubs prints have arrived! Find them here: https://www.darlingsdownunder.com.au/brands/bubblebubs

07.01.2022 For anyone who needs some lovely, heartwarming stories this morning, the comment thread on the post is full of them. Do you have an awesome animal in your life?

07.01.2022 A lovely song written out of the experience of having a baby during COVID restrictions: https://youtu.be/r3KIe1LRF40 You're not alone, mammas... from The Tambourine Social

06.01.2022 Stage 4 Restrictions have been introduced in Melbourne, so while some things will stay the same, there will be one big change... What stays the same: We'll still be packing and sending website orders every day (maintaining those additional precautions we already had in place). www.darlingsdownunder.com.au Contactless pick up remains available for those customers who can't wait for the post and need to pick up an order - just get in touch to arrange.... Online (Zoom or Skype) cloth nappy workshops are still available for those who need them - contact us to book. The big change is that while we'll be open Wednesday 5 August as usual (9:30am to 2:30pm), we'll then be closing the doors of Melbourne's only in-real-life cloth nappy shop for 6 weeks as we shut down under Stage 4 Restriction guidelines. We're not going anywhere - we're still available on email and phone and we have lots of stock on the website so can send fluffy mail to you - it's just going to be all online (like in the olden days!) for the next few weeks. Thank you to everyone for your amazing support We look foward to seeing you when our doors can open again. Stay safe, Fiona & Catherine

02.01.2022 We'e very exciting with the news that the brand new range of Seedling Baby prints is not too far away! Seedling Baby nappies have become been so popular that their shelves in the shop are looking very bare, so we can't wait to fill them back up again! Especially since these gorgeous prints have been created by the lovely @jasmine_illustrations

02.01.2022 Throwback Thursday! I love this show: https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=312393289844229 Have you ever asked your grandparents how the washing was done when they were children? I remember our Nana telling us how washing took her mother a whole day starting at sunrise, when she was a little girl over 100 years ago. They lived in country SA at the time, and her mother did the laundry outside of the house. It must have been horrifically hot work in summer boiling the copper over a fire, let alone the sheer backbreaking labour.

01.01.2022 We’re very excited to have been awarded Platinum Retailer status by Baby BeeHinds! Their assessment was based on our level of expertise when it comes to Baby BeeHinds products, great customer service, and stocking an extensive range of Baby BeeHinds. We must be one of the oldest continuous stockists of Baby Beehinds products in the world. When we started stocking Baby BeeHinds waaaayyyy back in 2005, they were the first Australian cloth nappy we stocked (we had US, Canadian &... UK brands to begin with), and they were a WAHM nappy, handmade at home by Davina! Check out the screen shot from our (very high tech!) website back then announcing the arrival of the BBH brand. It's been fabulous watching this awesome brand grow, now with Leanne at the helm, and things are only getting bigger and better for this staple of the Aussie cloth nappy stash.
