24.01.2022 Good morning all! It may be a bit early for some but anyone up for a bit of 'pondage'. I started this project a while a go and I think the final results speak for themselves, the owner is chuffed and so are the fish.......it also came in on time and budget. More than happy to help out anyone with inquiries, consultations, or even provide plans and pricing so you too can get into a bit of 'pondage'. So really basic..... Pic a spot, clear it, plan it, dig it, shape it, bench... it, mound it, check it, size it, smooth it, protect it, line it, fill it, decorate it, beautify it, edge it, rock it, landscape it, shade it, cover it, (if you have young children you may want to secure it - recommended steel mesh or similar), and then treat it, plant it and fish it...... (now because i have a bit of time on my hands, and for no other reason other than that of being a twit, this is the small print bit that must be spoken really fast - ponds are specifically designed and constructed with the express intent of digging a hole and filling it with water and fish, people using it for any purpose other than that of the original intent, eg filling it with jelly for the kids or the wife, goes against all best practice techniques as outlined in the landscapers guide to water features, titled 'pondage - a no strings attached guide to ponding', the policy of good pond legislation and may also breach Australian Standards for safe working standards, hole design, size, depth, structure, number of persons present for the digging and supervision of said digging and shovel propping etc and planning codes in your local area, but most importantly remember prolonged exposure to jelly in a hole may cause wrinkling of the skin, shrinkage of some appendages and a lingering smell of strawberries that stays with you for days.....(authorized, written and spoken by D.Street as representative for Darren Street Designs, Darren Street Designs can not be held responsible for any miss use of a watery hole in the ground.)

07.01.2022 Upon request from a few people, I thought I would post i quick bit on composting, with particular mention to the new compost 'tumbler' bin at the Gavin Street Community Garden....sorry if its too long. Compost is an important element, if not one of the keys factors in most successful vegetable gardens, and also as a general natural additive to most other types of gardens. It is vital to maintain good healthy soil, and compost can help achieve this. Put simply, compost is ba...Continue reading

05.01.2022 Hi Guys, the Gavin Street Community Garden is looking great with a lot of support from the local community and a big shout out to Suzy and Jen, the Oodies legends.

05.01.2022 Hi Guys, I hope this can help you plan your own vegetable and herb garden. These planting matrix should be used as a general guide, they're a simple tabled guide to help you plan your vege patch, with both seasonal and companion planting information. However for the long term success of your garden, some trial and error is always required. Just remember, the successful planting of any garden, what ever the size and location will depend greatly on several factors: - The c...limatic conditions - where it is, subtropical Queensland; - Environmental conditions sunlight, exposure to elements, etc; - The specific growing conditions - Soil type and conditioning, organic content; - The plants individual water requirements climate, season etc; and of course Food crops ‘hunger’, fertilizer, compost and organics. I hope this helps, just remember to try things, learn, have fun and enjoy yourself and the garden.
