04.01.2022 Design, Invention and Innovation with Stu Anderson: The Flow Hive 1st December 10am FREE VIRTUAL EVENT https://bit.ly/32cIMX5... There must be a better way... Join us for a special conversation with beekeeper and inventor Stuart Anderson. Stu is a second-generation beekeeper and co-inventor of the revolutionary honey extraction system, the Flow Frame. This invention was inspired by his son Cedar who saidThere must be a better way to get honey from a beehive. Together they took on what became a ten-year journey of designing and testing. When they proved they could gently harvest honey without opening the hive, they then brought it to market via one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns in history. Since its launch in 2015, the Flow Hive has inspired tens of thousands of new beekeepers around the world with over 75,000 Flow Hives shipped to customers in 130 countries. Stu is pleased that Flow-based beekeeping is encouraging people to have a stronger connection with their environment. Flow is now being used in boutique-commercial settings, in research and community projects, from Australia to Japan and the USA. Stu's personal account of the family’s story weaves in the challenging, the remarkable and the inspiring. Stuart Anderson will be coming to us live from Flow HQ in northern NSW, sharing the story of the Flow hive and his ingredients for inventing in conversation with the Museum's Learning team and YOU. 02.01.2022 Australia to Mars. Dr Adrian Brown's role in the Mars 2020 mission Monday 24th August 10am FREE Online Zoom session Year 4 - Year 6 https://bit.ly/31ac3BT... Travelling at more than 50,000km per hour the Mars 2020 is currently hurtling toward the red planet with the most ambitious robotic explorer to date, Perseverance. When it arrives on 18 February 2021, it must survive '7 minutes of terror' as it enters Mars' thin atmosphere before being lowered by a sky crane to the cold apparently desolate surface. It will then begin to search for answers to the greatest question of all...are we alone? How did the Australian Adrian Brown make his way from Melbourne to NASA as the Deputy Program Scientist for the Mars 2020 mission? What is the connection between the rocks of Mars and those of the Pilbara in Western Australia and how can our rocks help in the search for life on another planet? This mission is the first part of an ambitious plan to eventually bring samples from Mars back to Earth. This 50-minute presentation will be perfect for those students studying Earth and Space in upper primary. This ZOOM webinar will be hosted by the NSW Department of Education and the Powerhouse Museum, part of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences. #Scifest2020 #Maas #STEM #scienceweekonline #scienceeducation #PowerhouseMuseum #ScienceWeek #scienceweekonline #nationalscienceweek #Mars2020 #NASA
