25.01.2022 Mens Health Week 15 - 21 June 2020 Why is Australian male health so in need of attention? Why work on men's health? Good question!... Because the health status of males in most countries, including Australia, is generally poorer than that of females. More males die at every stages through the life course, more males have accidents, more males take their own lives and more males suffer from lifestyle-related health conditions than females at the same age. Meanwhile, men are less frequent visitors to general practitioners, and the perception is that they don't care about health or that health services are not well-prepared to interact with men effectively. But that's not what Men's Health Week is about! Men's Health Week was started in the United States by the US Congress in 1994 to heighten awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. In Australia, there were small and localised Men's Health Week events in Victoria and then in New South Wales from about 2000 onwards. In 2002, the 2nd World Congress Of Men's Health was held in Vienna and brought together six leading men's health organisations including MHIRC to run international events in June each year, just before the United States and United Kingdom Father's Day. THE VIENNA MEN'S HEALTH DECLARATION The Vienna Declaration set out to establish: Recognizing men's health is a critical issue and that there are health issues which only affect men Promoting awareness of men's approach to health Changing the way health care is provided to be more sensitive towards men's needs Creating school and community programs which target boys and young men Connecting health and social policies to better pursue men's health goals In Australia, Men's Health Week provides a platform for challenging and debating key issues in men's health and to raise the profile of men, their health outcomes and health needs around the country each June. Our approach celebrates the strengths of men, the contributions they make and the important role they play in society. It is as much as week of celebration and engagement of men with a serving of health on the side!

20.01.2022 Truth Our Country was Founded on a lie, our true history botched and covered up for centuries. "Cook spends some time interacting with the Guugu Yimithir Aboriginal tribe on the east coast of Australia after he pulls in to make repairs to the Endeavour. "... 1770 - Cook declares Terra Nullius knowing the country is inhabited. . A fact Ignored by all Governments for 222 years , when it was overturned by a High Court decision, campaigned and fought for by an Indigenous Torres Strait Islander man, called Eddie Mabo, who could not read or write, aided by a non-indigenous lawyer. 26th January 1788, Captain Arthur Phillip invaded Gadigal country , and planted the British flag on country that had been inhabited for more than 65,000 years, and claimed it on the orders of his British King. The Original inhabitants never ceded their Sovereignty to the British. The Original inhabitants were never asked to Treaty with the British Govt. In 1901 - the Australian Constitution was drafted at a time when Australia was considered a land that had belonged to no-one before European settlement, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders were considered a ' dying race ' not worthy of citizenship.' For 179 years, from 1788 to 1967 - First Nations people were classed as flora and fauna, until In 1967, 91% of Australians voted Yes, in a referendum that recognized First Nations people were human, and should be allowed to vote. On 3rd June 1992, - 204 years after the British raised their flag, after years of fighting and campaigning, Eddie Mabo , an Indigenous man from the Torres Strait won a High Court ruling that terra nulius should not have been applied to Australia - and recognized that Aboriginal and Torrest Strait Islander people had rights to the land which existed before the British arrived. Achieved by First Nations, not by any Govt initiative. Founded on a lie. History botched, covered up,and Australians lied to for 250 years. How different life would have been for First Nations, if they had been included from the beginning, how different would Australia look today, if their knowledge and skills had been listened to and respected. Isn't 60 - 100,000 years of sustainable living enough proof enough they knew what they were doing ? Non- Indigenous Australians living in 2020 are not responsible for what happened in 1788,many Indigenous Australians do not hold them responsible, and we can't change history. But how can can it be patriotic to celebrate the genocide of Australia's traditional owners, after they were invaded and slaughtered , and as a mark of respect, get drunk and wear flags.? Let's stop living in the past celebrating racist, colonial ways

10.01.2022 Coronavirus (COVID-19) in NT remote communities While it’s hard to know how many cases of COVID-19 the NT will get, it’s not hard to project the devastating impact it would have if spread to NT’s remote communities. With higher rates of chronic disease, often overcrowded living conditions reducing chances of self-isolating and already stretched medical equipment and staff, an outbreak of COVID-19 in any remote community will be devastating. To limit the possibilities of this ...occurring, the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT) and the NT Government have issued clear, simple advice: Do not visit remote communities if you have been overseas in the last two weeks. Do not visit remote communities if you have cold/flu like symptoms. Self-isolate for the minimum recommended time in regional hubs before travelling to remote communities if you are part of an at-risk group. Please follow this advice and pass it on within your organisation and your community. For the latest information on COVID-19, visit the Australian Government health alert page and for an FAQ with an NT focus visit Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance Northern Territory (AMSANT).
