17.01.2022 We in the Territory were very fortunate to avoid the brutality of last summer's bushfire season. However, for our friends in the eastern and southern parts of the country it was a nightmare that lasted months and devastated many. This tragedy inspired Peter Percy's piece 'The Bush Fires of 19-20', created using molten aluminium, glass, stone, charcoal, steel, rusted tin plate and acrylic paint on a metal backing board.... Of the work he said, "The towns mentioned on the frame of this piece are only some of the places that were brutally effected by the bush fires of 2020. Lake Conjola for example, a small village on the South Coast of NSW was overtaken by flames on New Years Eve of 2019 resulting in at least ninety homes being lost and many many more severely damaged. After touring some of these places and seeing the destruction up close I wanted to produce a substantial and brutal piece of work that shows what the landscape looked like in these communities after the fires rolled in." View this piece online (https://bit.ly/3kN0LKm), or in DVA's Gallery One next week Thursday-Friday 10AM until 5PM, or Saturday 10AM until 2PM.
