24.01.2022 Who was your favourite Avoidable Perils hero? We had a few loves here at Darwin Festival HQ, but definitely a softer spot for our first hero that was saved, Grammartron! Did you know you can buy merch of these heroes? That's right, you can take the legacy home! You can purchase a magnet or enamel pin of your favourite hero, or get the whole set. You could also buy a commemorative water bottle with all the characters engraved on it, because Darwin you were absolute heroes and... saved all the characters during the Festival season What's even better is that Counterpilot (the creators behind Avoidable Perils) will be donating $1 from every purchase to The Climate Council, so not only will you have a fun keepsake but you'll also be helping an important non-profit organisation too. Head over to the shop now, but don't sit on it, you only have until 5pm, Sunday 23 Aug to get your merch: https://www.avoidableperils.com/shop
23.01.2022 How beautiful was Streets of Darwin last night? It was such a special way for us to end the Festival and celebrate the Territory. We loved sharing this year's DF20 Homegrown with you <3 We may not have had our heart of Festival Park, The Lighthouse, this year, but we hope you loved the Sunset Stage as much as we did creating it for you. As always, thanks to Novatech Creative Event Technology for supporting us with the production of our main stage once again!

19.01.2022 DF20 Homegrown artist Miranda Garling shares her connection to NAIDOC Week as we look back on some more incredible Darwin Festival Aboriginal and Torres Strait artists. 'National NAIDOC is special and I love to see it going strong here in Darwin. The Theme this year 'Always Was, Always Will be' gives Indigenous Australians respect for the history of our ancestors - from brokenness to remembering that their cultures still are alive in the younger generation like myself. Bei...ng a local Darwin woman and coming from a multicultural background, to be able to connect with different people from all over is such a great and overwhelming feeling. You get to share with one another the stories of past and present, songwriters performing original songs, elders acknowledging welcoming to country. All ages getting involved and showing support to create different events brings that diversity into NAIDOC Week.' - Miranda Garling #2020NAIDOC #FirstNations #NTAustralia #DarwinFestival
18.01.2022 Have you managed to catch the stunning projection work from Matthew Van Roden in Botanicals? The work has been around various locations in Darwin during the Festival, and tonight is the last night you can watch this free special event at Parap Water Tower between 7.30pm - 9pm. Carefully choreographed movements map out the porous embodiments of human and more-than-human kind. Head, shoulders, knees, toes, petal, sepal, receptacle, stamen bodily boundaries, skins and textures... are traded, shaped and switched in a curious dance of multi-species exchange. For more information on the event, head to our website here: https://www.darwinfestival.org.au/events/botanicals/ In association with ACCOMPLICE

10.01.2022 So this is it, the last song in the Streets of Darwin video series, and what better way to end than with Caiti Baker’s track, ‘Last Stop’. Talking about her Darwin abode, Caiti says: ‘Last Stop’ is a poetic ode to the visuals, sounds, smells and experiences of a simple life lived by the Ocean in Darwin, here in Stuart Park. It was inspired by the parking lot that my... apartment looks out over that becomes filled with cars and boat trailers each weekend. ‘Last Stop’ feels like Home to me. I wrote it with James on guitar in our lounge room after a spell of listening to storytelling folk songs; a style that I don’t usually dabble in. It feels natural for me to do so though! Watch the video here: https://youtu.be/SipzJEu80uo Filmed by Skinnyfish We can’t wait for the live performance of Streets of Darwin tomorrow with Caiti Baker, Arran Barker, Broadwing, Tracey Bunn, Ben Evolent, Mandy Garling, David Garnham & Stevie Jean

08.01.2022 Today's tuneful ode to the Streets of Darwin is from Arran Barker '45' is an original electronic/alternative piece written by Darwin born Arran Barker, delving into the concept of loss within a family home. ‘45' documents the loss of Barker's father to melanoma, in 2013. Written from his father’s perspective, the track is a posthumous farewell letter to his wife and two children, detailing the helplessness and fear of leaving behind a family and the house he built. Barker s...ings about how streets are not the same and how his father didn’t get to grow old with those he adored. Only two more nights until you can see Arran plus all the other local line-up for the live performance of Streets of Darwin. In the meantime, watch '45' here: https://youtu.be/Lwu5T4ej5PE Filmed by Skinnyfish
