22.01.2022 CLIENT UPDATE: We are still here for you and your pets! We have had to make necessary and important changes to the way we operate our clinic to safeguard our clients, staff and the wider community.... We are now operating as a NO CONTACT clinic. Consultations: Please continue to make appointments by phone only. We cannot accept walk-ins at this time. You must bring your mobile phone with you to the clinic. On arrival, we ask that you contact us by phone and wait at the clinic door or vehicle for your pet to be collected by a nurse and taken into the clinic for assessment by the vet. Whilst waiting outside the clinic, the vet will consult with you by phone. We can only accept credit card payments over the phone. Medication and Food: Please order in advance and pre-pay over the phone, allowing 24 hours for us to process any medication requests. We can then deliver items to you outside the clinic or at your car. If you are elderly or vulnerable and need assistance, please contact us to arrange a special drop off service. Stock continues to reach us in a timely manner and we do not anticipate any shortages or delays at this stage. We do want people to avoid any stock piling, in particular medication. Please don't panic buy as this affects other customers. Procedures: We continue to take bookings for routine procedures (desexing, dentals etc) depending on availability, as well as emergency procedures and hospitalisation for animals requiring further work-up. When admitting animals, we again ask you to wait outside for the nurse to take your pet into the clinic. Please come at your allocated admit time to avoid everyone arriving at the same time. Where possible, we will email consent forms in advance for you to complete and leave with us on the day of surgery. At all times, we will adhere to social distancing recommendations of 1.5m and stringent personal hygiene, including the use of personal protective equipment during our interactions. We also have strict cleaning protocols in place. Please be kind to our staff, we are doing the best we can in a very challenging situation and are experiencing very high demand for our services at this time. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. We really appreciate your support as we all get through this unsettling time together.

21.01.2022 It's really hot and humid out there, please look after your pets! HOW TO PREVENT HEAT STRESS IN YOUR PETS: Ensure pets have access to shade, air flow and plenty of fresh drinking water. Have more than one water bowl in case of spillage.... Bring pets indoors into air conditioning on extremely hot and humid days. Avoid exercising animals in the heat of the day, head out for your walk early morning or evening. It'll be nicer for you too! Concrete, asphalt and hot sand heats up quickly and can burn your pooches paws. When travelling in the back of your ute, place a mat down to stop their pads getting burnt on the ute tray. Never ever leave your pet in a car as temperatures rise extremely quickly! Provide access to water for cooling off in the shade, like a dog wading pool, or a wet towel to lie on. Make ice blocks or pupsicles (you can flavour these with broth) or offer cold fruit to chew on such as watermelon or banana. https://www.hillspet.com.au///frozen-dog-treats-for-summer Small animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, rats and mice are highly susceptible to heatstroke. Bring them inside on really hot days, they will appreciate the cool tiles to lie on. Brachycephalic (flat faced breeds) obese, young and old animals, those with long/thick coats and our pets with existing heart and respiratory issues are all at increased risk of heat stress. Take extra care of these guys! If your pet is showing any signs of heat stroke please take them to the vet ASAP!

20.01.2022 We had to say a teary good-bye to our Head Nurse Sarah on Thursday who is moving to Townsville with the family for an exciting new adventure. 17.01.2022 EXCITING OPPORTUNITY! We are looking for an experienced and motivated veterinary nurse to join our team. If interested please email your resume to us at [email protected].

17.01.2022 WE ARE OPEN as normal and want to keep treating your loved family members during this challenging time. We therefore ask that you help us by doing the following: If you are unwell, you must stay at home. If you or someone close to you is suspected of having exposure to COVID-19 please DO NOT VISIT the clinic. Organise someone else to come in on your behalf or reschedule. If you are in self-isolation and your pet requires veterinary attention, we can assist you by offering ...a drop off service. We will meet you outside the clinic at your car, then conduct the consultation by phone. Alternatively, The Furry Godmother offer a pet taxi service. For our elderly and more vulnerable clients we can accommodate you with a quiet appointment time in the middle of the day, please ask at the time of booking. We are not experiencing any pet food or medication shortages at this time, however it is always a good idea to be prepared, as there is still the possibility that we will encounter delays or disruptions of stock in the future. Please call ahead to order in any prescription food or make medication requests. We want to keep waiting times in reception to a minimum, therefore ask that you call ahead and pre-pay over the phone to ensure food, medication, wormers or flea and tick treatment can be ready for you to collect at the counter. We have strengthened hygiene practices in the clinic with regular disinfection taking place and encourage you to make use of hand sanitisers located around the clinic. Please be mindful of this when touching shared surfaces. Please practice safe social distancing of at least 1.5m when in the clinic and avoid any hand shaking. When coughing or sneezing, you must cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue (which is then immediately discarded). We are working hard to ensure we can continue to provide you with complete veterinary care and ensure the health and well-being of all our clients and staff, as well as the wider community. Thank you for your understanding.

14.01.2022 We wanted to share a story of one of our special patients Flynn, who has made an amazing recovery after suspected Botulism, written by one of our nurse's Demi. MEET FLYNN, Flynn came to us as an emergency case early on a Monday morning. He presented us with complete paralysis he was unable to move his legs, lift his head or hold himself up. Over the next few days Flynn’s condition did not improve despite all the medication and intensive treatment. Flynn’s parents did not gi...ve up; and we continued intensive patient care over the next 14 days. This meant Flynn was admitted to hospital every morning at 7:30am where he would receive IV medication, syringe feeding and water, fluid therapy, physical therapy and intensive monitoring. This was all before his parents would pick him up at 6pm to take him home and do it all again. Flynn’s condition meant he lost a considerable amount of weight and all of his muscle, leaving his body condition very poor. By day 16 Flynn made a turning point. He was able to sit up on his own without the support of pillows or someone holding him up. He was starting to eat on his own again, and we saw him trying to crawl. Finally on oral medication and moving around on his own Flynn could finally stay home. On Friday last week (day 20), we saw a completely different Flynn. He was eating everything we offered him, he was able to toilet on his own and he was WALKING! With a little help he was able to walk a distance before getting tired. Flynn has a long way to go before he makes a full recovery, but with a little help from us and the determination and dedication of his parents he will be doing zoomies again in no time. Flynn, you have beaten all the odds against you and won all our hearts See more

11.01.2022 With a wetter wet season predicted for the Top End, that means lots more storms are coming our way soon. This can be a very scary time for our noise sensitive and storm phobic pets. Their hearing is four times more acute than our own, so imagine how loud those bangs sound to our furry friends. They don't have to just get through it, there are lots of ways you can help. Come in and have a chat to us about the different products available. Zylkene is one of the products we h...ave available. It is a naturally derived milk protein that comes in a capsule form that you can give to your pet once a day. It aims to promote relaxation in unpredictable situations. See the attached brochure for more information: https://www.vetoquinol.com.au//fi/zylkene_vet_brochure.pdf Would you like to try it? We have a bottle of Zylkene to GIVE AWAY to one lucky person who LIKES and SHARES this post. Winner to be chosen at random on Monday 2nd of November at 12pm.

10.01.2022 PARVOVIRUS DMVS has seen an increasing number of Canine Parvovirus cases in the northern suburbs of Darwin. Parvovirus is highly contagious and can be spread through the contact of dog faeces and vomit in the soil, on concrete and pathways or any outside environment. The virus can lie dormant for many years. Vaccination is the only way to prevent the virus. ... To prevent your dog or puppy from contacting parvovirus we ask that all unvaccinated dogs stay at home and away from other unvaccinated dogs. If your puppy or dog develops symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhoea, inappetence, fever, dehydration or lethargy; please contact a veterinary clinic to make an appointment at the clinic ASAP. Please be prepared to wait in the car for your appointment as we are taking all precautions to protect all of our patients from exposure. From all the team at Darwin My Vet Service, we thank you for your cooperation

09.01.2022 STORM ANXIETY AND PHOBIA: What might you see? * Trembling * Pacing * Salivating... * Hiding * Destructive behaviour What are some ways to help your pet this storm season? * Create an environment that acts as a "safe space" for your pet. * Bring your pet indoors. * If possible, be present with them. * Create positive distractions (e.g treat ball) and provide background noise (e.g tv, radio). * Pheromone therapy: a synthetic appeasing pheromone in the form of a collar, plug in diffuser or spray on their bedding can help to calm them naturally. * Thundershirts: the gentle hugging pressure may help to calm you pet if experiencing mild anxiety. * Prescription medication may help, book an appointment with one of our vets to discuss options. Never force your pet to "face their fears" or punish them as this often leads to increasing their fears and stress. COME IN and talk to us about any of the products mentioned or to book an appointment with one of our vets.

05.01.2022 Protect your dog from ticks! The disease Ehrlichiosis is caused by an exotic tick-borne bacteria called Ehrlichia canis. Transmission occurs from infected ticks such as the brown dog tick which are widespread in Australia. For the first time, confirmed cases of Ehrlichia canis have recently been found in the Northern Territory and Western Australia. There is no vaccination for Ehrlichiosis, . Come in to discuss the tick products we have avai...lable to ensure protection from this disease, which is potentially fatal if left untreated. We also recommend daily inspection of your dog for ticks and avoiding tick infected areas. 03.01.2022 COVID-19 CLINIC UPDATE Firstly, a massive THANK YOU to all our clients for your patience and support during this challenging time, we understand it has not always been easy being separated from your pets, however they have done an amazing job. Lots of treats and cuddles has definitely helped From Friday the 15th of May we will be easing back our restrictions whilst continuing to follow the recommended guidelines that ensure the safety of our staff and clients.... ONE PERSON PER PET will be permitted into the consultation. Please respect physical distancing (1.5m) with our staff and other clients while inside and outside. If you can, please wait in your car until your appointment time, to reduce the number of clients waiting outside the clinic at one time. Our door will stay locked to allow us to monitor people traffic within our clinic. Please continue to call us on arrival outside the clinic. This is the best way for us to ensure we don’t exceed the maximum number of TWO PEOPLE IN THE CLINIC at one time. We are still more than happy to retrieve your pet from your car and conduct the consultation by phone if this option is preferred. Where necessary, the Vet may ask a Nurse to help hold your pet to minimise contact time and ensure distancing requirements can be met. Please continue to call ahead and pre-pay over the phone for purchase of wormers, food and medication requests. This will help reduce waiting times at the clinic. We have hand sanitisers available for your use, we encourage you to use on entry and exit of the clinic. We will continue to clean and disinfect all high contact areas such as door handles, chairs, benches and the eftpos machine regularly. Thank you for your co-operation in this next phase as we get back to a new kind of normal in the NT.

02.01.2022 Be treat-wise for your pets! Did you know treats should only make up 10% of your pet's daily calories. There are some great healthy treat options you probably already have at home that your pets will love: broccoli, green beans, carrots, cooked sweet potato, cooked pumpkin, frozen banana, watermelon and apple slices, in moderation of course. What is your favourite healthy treat to give your pet?

02.01.2022 With all this social isolation, how do we still socialise our puppies when the critical socialisation window closes between 12 - 16 weeks? Here's some great suggestions for what you CAN STILL DO. https://www.myfantasticfriend.com//time-is-of-the-essenc/

01.01.2022 AUGUST IS DENTAL MONTH! We are offering free dental checks and 20% off a Professional Scale & Polish. Our clinic also offers dental imaging services. This gives us the best overall assessment of the health and stability of your pet's teeth, as 60% of their tooth lies under the gum.... Dental x-rays produce high-resolution images that allow us to assess the tooth, root, bone and adjacent structures. For a small additional cost while your pet is undergoing a dental, we can perform a full dental profile. Please contact us on 89273657 to book in for your free dental assessment and estimate.
