15.01.2022 Armidale Rifle Club News 500 yards Night Shoot 28th November 2020 There is something beautiful about target shooting at night, calm conditions, no mirage and a ...perfect sight picture. Eighteen shooters turned up for our second night shoot of the year, and the first at 500 yards, and what a night it was. Conditions really were conducive to high scores and high super centre counts, and the boys in F Open had a field day. It was a race for super centres as most shooters cut sixes to go for the X. The night saw 5 double possibles shot, with a further 4 possibles shot. In F Open, it is not often you shoot 120.9 and come 5th! It really is becoming a hard place to get a win. F Open saw 5 double possibles shot with Jock Foster (120.16), just edging out the old man (120.15) and Jimmy Piddington and Nik McRae both nailing 120.14. Great shooting lads. Both Matt and Jock Foster will rue the one that got away, both shooting a 60.9 in perfect conditions, just missing the probable. It was great to see Greg Carson smash out a 60.9 with his 6mm BR, he is back!, and also to Jimmy and Caitlin Piddington. A father/daughter combination will be a very welcome addition to the club, and we hope to see more of you both. F Standard saw the emergence of Darryl Stace as a massive force to be reckoned with. Piloting his new 308, he smashed out his first possible in Stage one with a well-constructed 60.7, following it up with a second stage 59.2. Great shooting Darryl. Ian Moffatt managed second place on the podium (113.7) ensuring that it was not a 1st and 2nd finish for father and son, edging out Lindsay Stace (112.6). Hunter class was a tight affair with newcomer Jack Gerdes showing a clean pair of heels in the first stage, shooting a sizzling 60.9 off a bipod! Jack backed this up with a second stage 57.4 (117.11) to take the win, holding off Ben Hickey (116.9) and Toby Anderson (115.5). It was great to see new visitor Sam Brewer at the club, we hope to see more of you. A big thank you to all who helped make the night a success, especially Bob Thrift and Don Foster, who between them supplied some LED lighting and wired it up to make the night easier. They worked an absolute treat boys, thank you. 01.01.2022 I've taken this from a comment in another post - history should stand proud. And there's a lot of it in this sport and I'd like to think some of you have it hid...den away ready to show the rest of us. Posted by Bernard Williams - Belmont Queen's 1972. Does it sound bad when I say, "that's almost 50 years ago?" Much has changed but there is so much that is recognisable to us in 2020. Isn't it great to think that we are still shooting on the hallowed turf at Belmont and many other ranges! QRA Queensland Rifle Association - lots of history.
