21.01.2022 Dogsthey keep us happy, they keep us healthy, and they truly are man’s best friend! This week we took a visit to the Showgrounds and the Rink Van Der Velde Dog Arena and caught up with Chief Steward Susie Ripper & Junior Dog Handler, Denver Vivian. Susie and Denver are both passionate dog lovers who have been part of the Show for many years and together they share with us a wonderful insight into the woofing world of Show dogs!

18.01.2022 Congratulations to the 2020 Giant Pumpkin champion Chris Rutishauser, claiming the top gong with his giant pumpkin weighing in at 27.8kg! Chris was closely followed by the McKenna family entry at 25.8kg and in equal third place, David Martin from Government House Darwin and Noel Fisher with pumpkins weighing in at 13.3kg! A special thank you to Barnyard Trading for sponsoring the category and hosting us for the weigh in! Growing a giant pumpkin takes around 5 months, so its a test of patience and perseverance! (And pest eradication - we're told white ants played havoc on a number of pumpkin entries this year!!) Thanks for all our entrants! Wonder if we can achieve a 70kg pumpkin for our 70th anniversary...how good would that be!

12.01.2022 We're on the hunt for DARWIN'S TOP DOG! We are calling out for all terrifically talented dogs to show us your best tricks. We have seen a dog fetch a beer, find lost keys, play dead and even singwe want to see what Territory canines are capable of! Submit a short (up to 3 minute) video to [email protected] before midnight on Sunday 19th July. ... You must start your video by introducing your dog and the name of the trick it is going to perform. The Top 3 dog videos will be judged by a panel of passionate dog lovers who are looking for agility, obedience, form and originality. 10.01.2022 Happy 69th Show Day! A year quite like no other! We would like to thank everyone who has entered into our virtual show this year! We have received an incredible 220 entries and will be announcing the winners very soon!... Whilst we can’t celebrate with you today we hope that you have enjoyed our mini-series of videos. Over the last few weeks we have dived into the passionate and unique lives of Show lovers and show entrants across Darwin. A huge thank you to those involved who shared with us an incredible insight into our most loved pavilions. We’ve decorated cakes, played with dogs, chatted to some chooks and we’ve had the best time! We can already hear the crowds of cheers and excitement, see you at the big 70th next year!

07.01.2022 Meet Poppy, a purebred Blue Copper Maran. Poppy hatched with some deformities, including a twisted beak and missing her outer eyelid on her right eye. Because of her special needs, she became a very quiet pet. Since having surgery to remove her right eye she has flourished and is now the matriarch of the chook house!
