The citation is an acknowledgement and celebration of being an active and vibrant club in our community, and for achieving ours and Rotary International's strategic goals for the year. 10.01.2022 A message from our new District Governor, Merewyn Wright

09.01.2022 Frank Shadforth of Seven Emu Station needs your help to save native bees. Dear friends, As many of you know I'm passionate about combining Indigenous knowledge ...and western science for the protection of our native plants and wildlife through the conservation reserve I host at Seven Emu Station, in the NT's spectacular Gulf country. All my life my family and I have worked to protect this country, and the species of native plants and animals that call it home. We know we need to look after the land to make it cycle properly. But despite our efforts, decades of mining, land clearing, overgrazing and now climate change have left many of these unique species facing extinction across our region. The native bee has been a particular focus of our protection efforts since witnessing a sharp decline in numbers in recent years. The male native bee is important for pollinating trees, along with the flying fox, birds and insects. It lives at the top of trees where it produces sugarbag. But since the introduction of the European bee in the Gulf, it has all but wiped out the male native bee. Our work to highlight the threat to the male native bee has been featured in a series of short educational films. If this species collapses, it would have devastating consequences for the health of land and people not just here in the Gulf, but around the continent. We can't sit back and do nothing. In May 2020, I will be leading a team of local Garrwa cultural and scientific experts to help us identify the remaining populations of male native bee in our region, and launch a project to bring their population back from the brink. You can find out more and share our project on social media here. The Gulf is rugged country, and to find them we will need a helicopter and ground crew operating over the course of several days. It will involve local Indigenous families camping, hunting and fishing to keep operating costs to a minimum. Even so, we expect this project to cost a minimum of $10,000. We would be grateful for any support that you or your organisation could chip in to help us embark on this critical effort to save the native bee. Our friends at Original Power are accepting tax-deductible donations towards the cost of the native bee rescue project. If you can support us, please use the reference 'bees' when you donate at www.originalpower.org.au/donate Its up to all of us to look after this country - Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Together, we can make a difference and protect this species and our other native plants and animals, for the sake of our next generations. Thank you for your support and interest in our bee rescue project. Please get in touch if you would like to know more about the native bee under threat, and share our project to spread the word. We look forward to updating you with news of our progress later this year. With thanks, Frank Shadforth Seven Emu Station 08 8975 9904 or 0459 129 796

06.01.2022 A great opportunity to hear from some inspirational and senior Rotary International leaders

05.01.2022 We are the safest place in Australia thanks to the hard work from all Territorians. It’s time to start enjoying the Territory lifestyle again while staying sa...fe. From this long weekend, our parks will be OPEN This is the first step in gradually adjusting restrictions but that increases responsibility on Territorians. Social distancing and proper hygiene are still required. Further announcements about other outdoor restrictions will be made later this week.

03.01.2022 Frank was a Charter Member of the Club , an enthusiastic member with a great community spirit . Ask Sandy if she remembers the fundraiser at the Thai Hung Tol ? Frank and Julie hosted a number of exchange students as well. Unfortunately due to the restrictions there won't be a suitable send off as there would be a large crowd of Territorians sorry to see him go.

03.01.2022 Rotarians and friends - please come along to our second Meet a Local Event, 5.15pm Thursday 26 November 2020 at the Chung Wah Hall. This is a fantastic event that gives Rotarians the opportunity to meet with a diverse range of people and give back to the wonderful students who are making a great contribution to our city! Please make sure you register to attend!
