24.01.2022 I like how some moments in time are like the beginning of a story. Some stories are waiting to happen, some are fleshing out a wonderful setting and some crystalise a problem or a challenge. Other moments are like a resolution. I guess this one could be story beginning or ending.

18.01.2022 Stories for the young at heart. Just sat down at my desk and noticed a familiar book - Leila Berg's 'Folk Tales for reading and telling'. It's a bit Eurocentric but the stories in it are very 'tellable'. On page 64 there is 'Little Dog Turpie'. Now, it's a crazy story but it has a good message - 'small dogs are brave and old men can be a bit crazy at times' and 'there are scary things in the world that can be overcome if faced with energy and courage'. ... The best thing about it though is that Leila Berg's retelling of it has lots of movement and sound and lots of opportunities for a young audience to join in. This is so important when you're telling stories to the young at heart. It's a bit hard for adults to believe it but children want to join in and participate. There are lots of feelings as well. As a storyteller you can offer these to your audience as a gift. 'Oooh, here comes a scary part. Are you ready?' Although Leila passed away in 2012 aged 94 her clearly phrased wisdom about storytelling lives on in her versions of folktales like 'Little Dog Turpie'.

06.01.2022 http://www.yarkuwa.org.au/kawirkuthun.html This was one story I was really chuffed to be part of publishing. This ancient Dreamtime story from the Wamba Wamba nation was illustrated by Community members in Deniliquin and told in both Wamba Wamba and English. Indigenous languages and stories together share so much about country and culture. You can order a copy of this wonderful children's Yemurraki story from the Yarkuwa web site.

05.01.2022 Beautiful sunrise at Sandgate foreshore. The day's story was beginning.
