25.01.2022 How did you get your start in photography? "As a child I enjoyed coastal walks and visiting nature reserves, and always had a camera with. "My high school had a darkroom and my art teacher was a passionate photographer who always encouraged me to pursue my hobby and was a huge inspiration to me.... "He allowed me to use the darkroom during breaks and at lunchtime and put me forward for GCSE Photography, which ended up being my best grade in school. "The portfolio I had built, was strong enough to secure me a place on the prestigious diploma course at what is now called The Arts Institute in Bournemouth. "I graduated in the early 90’s and then worked in various photography roles including having a High Street photography shop, studio and darkroom. "Weddings and portraits never really made my heart sing, but during that time I bought my first computer, scanner and printer and began my restoring old photographs (with Photoshop version 2) and printing digitally for the first time." 25.01.2022 A relatively new Danish Church, it follows the principles of Gothic design and took the architect’s family 3 generations to complete. The Grundtvigs Kirke is often seen in natural daylight, where it has a serene and peaceful atmosphere. But when the lights were on it adds another layer of complicity to the scene.... What I love about interior architecture is the harmony between daylight and the ambient light. 22.01.2022 Any tips or advice for photographers just beginning their career? "As a beginner you should dare to try out all kinds of things and above all, make sure you have fun along the way. "Many beginners compare themselves with other photographers way too early and thus not only put themselves under a lot of pressure, but also rob themselves of the opportunity to develop their own style early on. "Expensive equipment also plays only a minor role in the beginning. "Nowadays, we ...all own a smartphone with an extremely capable built-in camera. "It doesn’t take too long to familiarize yourself with the basics of photography and the best thing is, you always have your camera with you." 21.01.2022 As the world adapts to a 'new normal' in light of the Coronavirus pandemic, we have asked our Friends with Vision how they are adapting the way they work as a photographer. Our FwV Joshua Snow Fine Art Photography & Workshops said the following: Adapting to life during Covid-19 hasnt been easy. It has impacted the travel and photography industry so deeply! When this all began I wasnt sure if it was all hype or if we were dealing with something real and dangerous. Fast fo...rward five months and honestly I am not sure much has changed. Wave after wave of closures and cancellations has postponed much of my workshops to 2021 in the hopes that it's a better year, however I cant rely on that hope, alone. I have been working on creating video tutorials, and facilitating webinars to supplement much of the loss on in-person workshops but honestly, if feels very disconnected and I am not sure I will ever feel ok working remotely over being immersed with my students in the field, but it may be a necessary evil, for a while. The upside to the quarantine, and closures is that it has given me time to think, and plan. I think we are going to see a ripple effect over the next few years regarding travel, and the concept of a new normal might remain a moving target. However, there will come a bounce, and the industry will thrive again. I am still putting most of my efforts into building and marketing in-person workshops because that is where my passion truly lies, but to get back there, it's important to do what we can to survive. I have even established a new business that will offer daily photo tours, here where I live in Moab, Utah. A popular tourist location that hasnt seemed deeply affected by the international travel restrictions! My best advice for anyone struggling during COVID-19 in the travel and photography industry is to not become complacent, to grind and grind until we are through this because it will bounce back! 20.01.2022 Southwark Cathedral is one of London’s classic gems; this photo is taken during a Candlelit evening. Event openings like these are rare, and they are great opportunities to see a public space in a very different light, but it is also a challenging scene to photograph where we have both ends of the spectrum from extreme bright lights and dark shadows. 16.01.2022 It is proven that the colors of winter, in line with any other color, have an effect on us humans and photographers. Here’s an example: Just imagine a fresh bright yellow lemon glistening in the sun. You cut it in half and take a closer look at the gleaming yellow pulp, before taking a big bite from the lemon. Now start chewing Do you realize what’s happening right there in your mouth? Colors have an effect and we can use them in our photography to achieve a certain m...ood or reaction. Why could this be of any specific importance in winter? Both the weather and landscapes are dominated by different shades of grey and grey is proven to have a negative effect on our mood. There is a reason this time of year is referred to when mentioning winter blues, a slightly depressive mood. Surely, we don’t want that, right? This is why we fight winter blues with colorful pictures. 16.01.2022 What type of photography are you shooting and what motivated you to focus on that genre? "I got into wildlife photography for the love of adventure, mystery and the challenge. It became a passion as I feel that every living creature has a story to tell. Furthermore, the wildlife that entirely depend on the forest as their only home coming together as an unbreakable ecosystem that is ultimately vital to the human survival.... What intrigues me is the unbreakable bond between wildlife and its home and the mysteries that lay within. Animal behaviour draws me in particularly. From watching their behaviour, we get a glimpse to understand more on their lifestyle. By observing and through photographs we get closer to unlocking their secret lives, their advances, their plight and the need for us to respect their space. I have always had a great interest in nature and science, and wildlife photography soon became a part of my life." 11.01.2022 What has been your biggest achievement or obstacle along the way? "In terms of my career, there is actually no single greatest achievement for me, but rather many individual ones. "The important thing is to set yourself realistic goals, which you also try to achieve within a certain time frame. "So the road to success as a photographer is an incremental process in which you should not only find your own style, but also achieve your own personal goals. "I think one of the ...biggest obstacles for photographers nowadays is the artist’s block. "We are bombarded with a multitude of photos on social media every day and at the same time, we only see other people’s successful careers, but don’t get insight into the defeats that occurred along the way. "Therefore, it’s easy to feel that you are not good enough or that you are not making progress with your own work." 08.01.2022 How did you get your start in photography? "My father loved to photograph the family. "Even if we could not afford big resources, a black&white roll in his Voigtländer camera never failed.... "I often walked with him, especially on Sundays and holidays. It was in those moments that I became passionate about photography. "I quarreled with him for whom had to take pictures until he finally resigned and gave me a small Agfa Instamatic.
