25.01.2022 Goat meat: it's an important part in the circle of life We breed our goats for milk, but we cannot keep them all in the breeding program. Young males are what we typically put in our freezer and we can assure you they have the best life possible. They are raised well, dispatched humanely and processed so we do not waste any cut. We utilise an amazing local business to do the farm butchering and we taste the benefits of our good husbandry and animal care. Goat meat is deli...cious and extremely good for you! Goatober is coming up in October, so we encourage you to ask your local butcher to source some goat meat and give it a go! Some of our favourite goat meat businesses to follow are: The Gourmet Goat Lady and Cabrito Goat Meat Our rib racks in this picture are marinated in garlic, rosemary, thyme, lime juice & olive oil. Into the slow cooker for juicy goodness!

23.01.2022 We are so proud - our first Sire of Merit award! The semen we have been using for the last couple of years from USA buck J&R Spirits Dakota Playboy, has made a big difference in our herd. After our last milk test we realised we had six of his daughters with milk awards which qualifies him for a Sire of Merit. For us, this is confirmation that we have made good breeding decisions and we are so thankful that we stuck to our guns and have made the best decisions for our animals.... Playboy's daughters who gained him this award: R126 Datadoo Playboy's Champ *Q*3 EX91 R108 Datadoo Playboy's Lesa *Q* VG85 R98 Datadoo Playboy's Sibelco Q* VG87 RS Datadoo Playboy's Champ *3 VG85 RS Datadoo Playboy's Chaseside Q*3 GP82 RS Datadoo Playboy's Latitude Q* GP81 Thank you to the other Australian breeders who worked together to make the semen import happen and to his American owners for entrusting us with these great genetics. 17.01.2022 This morning we had our 17 milkers classified by Holstein Australia and we are very pleased and proud to say that our 3rd lactation doe, R126 Datadoo Playboy's Champ *Q*3, scored Excellent 91! She is our highest ever producing doe, and in the 2019/20 year she had the 2nd highest Herd Recording figure in Australia for Anglo Nubians. We love this doe and are so pleased that she can now be recognised for both her production and conformation using objective measurements. Some oth...er scores from our herd today: RS Datadoo Case Q*2 - VG88 (6th lac) RS Datadoo Chrysler Q*2 - VG88 (4th lac) R98 Datadoo Playboy's Sibelco Q* - VG87 (3rd lac) RS Datadoo Deere - VG86 (4th lac) R110 Datadoo Chery Q*2 - VG85 (5th lac) R108 Datadoo Playboy's Lesa *Q* - VG85 (3rd lac) The rest of the herd all scored 80-84, including our little first lactation does, which we are very happy with!

16.01.2022 This is how we make our kid feeders Save this for later! We like these because: they are cheap to make, they hang on the fence so we don't have to be in the pen to feed kids,... the buckets last for years you only need to replace the teats, the milk gravity feeds into the teats so it is easy to get kids only 1 day old into these teats, they're easy to clean, there are no hoses or valves to remove when washing. You need: Bucket - you can use any type of bucket you like, but we like these 18L rectangular mop buckets from Bunnings, they're less than $20. Teats - the black lamb teats that push onto coke bottles. We buy them from our local produce store but you can get them online, they're a few dollars each. We put 6 on these buckets. Drill and bit - approx 11mm drill bit. This size might change if you use different teats. Even if you don't have a bit big enough, you can round the hole out with a smaller bit. The teats have to be very snug in the holes so that they seal. Stanley knife to trim plastic shavings from around holes. Snap hooks - few dollars each from Bunnings.

15.01.2022 Weaning in soon! These July kids are happily eating their hay and grain, ready for weaning off milk soon. Get ready for baby goat spam in the next few weeks, the next batch of kids are due in this week!

12.01.2022 We love supporting our local community in Central Queensland. Rosebery plays a vital role in assisting people who need emergency housing or a place to get support when they are going through a tough time. We were very happy to send some soap their way, hopefully the folks staying at Jack's House will enjoy some homemade comfort Roseberry Qld

12.01.2022 Can you see the baby moving? County is our last doe due this year, she could kid any day now. We're sure there is more than one in there!

11.01.2022 We are super proud to have won some of the DGSA Qld Branch milk awards for 2019/20. Every one of our does is milk tested over her whole lactation. It's important for us to see when they peak, how their butterfat and protein changes over time and how long they can actually milk for into their next pregnancy. Congratulations to Emerald Springs Dairy Goat Stud on their awards. NB For the astute players at home looking at lactation numbers - Qld Branch Milk Awards rum from 1st April - 31st March every year, so some goats might appear twice but on 2 different lactations depending on when they kidded in that period. E.g. Champ has a herd recording award for 929kg on her 1st lactation, but a 24hr award with 5.53kg and 20.69 points on her 2nd lactation.

08.01.2022 We are always proud to support events that foster the involvement of young folks in agriculture. Last year we took on the sponsorship of the RNA Young Judges Dairy Goat section. We provided cash prizes for the winners and place getters, and beautiful perpetual shields on which the winners' names are engraved. The winners also get these beaut little medals to take home. In 2020 the event was held online and there were 412 entries across all animal sections. Congratulations to... Jasmine Wilson and Torino Brodie who won the Senior and Junior dairy goat sections, respectively. Reasons we think Junior Judges competitions are great development opportunities for young people, listed in order of LEAST to MOST important: - Judging livestock - Presenting yourself in a neat and respectful manner - Assessing the information in front of you and making a logical and evidence-based decision under time pressure - Articulating your thoughts in a clear and concise way There are so many skills to gain from participating in these types of activities, it's not just about judging animals. Thanks to the RNA Young Judges team at Ekka for working hard to make sure the competition still went ahead this year. Thanks to Jazstar Lodge for volunteering their animals and time for the videos and to Tom Byrne for once again taking on the difficult task of Over Judge. Also thanks to NG Engraving for working with us to make the perfect shields and medals. #datadoo #youthinagriculture #nextgen #youngjudgescompetition #youngjudges #juniorjudging #supportingyouth #dairygoats #promotethegoat #practicemakesperfect #personaldevelopment #sponsorship #theekka #ekka #rna @theekka @rnafdc

05.01.2022 Flashback to when our Eucalyptus soap won a 3rd place in the Body Products competition at the 2017 ADGA Convention in Atlanta, USA. Kylie had an amazing week in America meeting new people and catching up with old friends from all parts of the world. The soap competition was a little added bonus! We've learnt a lot from looking outside of our own backyard and meeting as many farmers and goat people as we can in other parts of Australia and other countries. There's always some...thing new! The appearance of our Eucalyptus soap has changed since 2017 but it is still EXACTLY THE SAME RECIPE. When you're on to something good, why change it?
