23.01.2022 APPLE ICLOUD SECURITY THREAT - NOT an April Fools Post! Reports are emerging of a security issue related to the Apple iCloud service. If these reports are accurate this could result in Apple devices being remotely wiped and loss of data held in iCloud accounts. From ZDNet; .a London-based hacker group, calling itself the Turkish Crime Family, has claimed to have access to 250 million accounts. The hacker group is threatening to reset the passwords on those iCloud accounts ...and remotely wipe customer devices if Apple doesn't pay a ransom by April 7. To help protect against this eventuality, Data Parts recommends users of the iCloud service reset their iCloud password as soon as possible. If you have an iPhone, iPad or Apple computer you’ll likely have an iCloud account as this is what you use to buy apps or use an @icloud.com email address. IMPORTANTLY, Apple will NOT call you regarding this security breach. There are reports of scammers ‘piggybacking’ on this issue by calling people pretending to be Apple and asking for their login details. DO NOT give anyone your personal account information over the phone! How did the attackers find the iCloud passwords? They’ve simply compiled a list of hacked login details from other websites. If a login email address for the hacked website was an iCloud email address it’s likely that the password for the hacked website is the same as the login for the iCloud account - because many people use the same password for everything! How do you change your iCloud password? - Go to https://appleid.apple.com/ - Sign in with the email address and password you use to buy apps on your iPhone or iPad. - You’ll need to verify your details with security questions. - Under the Security Section, click ‘Change Password’ - You’ll need to enter your old password, and then type a new password twice. - Click ‘Change Password’ NOTE: Don’t use the same password for multiple websites! This is how the attackers have found these passwords. Each website login must be unique. After you’ve changed your password you’ll need to re-login on your Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac computers). Don’t delay - there’s only 6 days until the attackers are threatening to carry out their damaging threats so change your iCloud password now. If you need assistance, contact us on (03) 5821 7155 or drop into our office at 3 Edward Street, Shepparton. 10.01.2022 (PRODUCT)RED iPHONE LAUNCH A red iPhone! Why? Because of Apple’s partnership with the (PRODUCT)RED organisation that seeks to eliminate HIV/AIDS in 8 African countries. Companies such as Apple create ‘RED’ products and donate a portion of the profits to the RED organisation to help prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Over three decades have passed since HIV/AIDS became prevalent around the world and in that time much progress has been made to find both a cure and a w...ay to manage the illness; - PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a drug that is administered within 72 hours of a possible exposure to HIV and can prevent a HIV negative person from being infected with the virus. - PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a drug called Truvada taken daily by a HIV-negative person that is at significant risk of being contracting HIV. It works by preventing HIV from taking hold in the body in the event of an exposure to the virus. Both of these medicines are a combination of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs such as tenofovir and emtricitabine which keep the HIV virus from growing and multiplying in the human body. These drugs allow people living with HIV to lead healthier lives as well as minimising transmission of HIV. Correct use of antiretroviral drugs can minimise transmission of HIV between a mother and child during pregnancy and birth. This is where the RED organisation seeks to make the biggest impact in eliminating HIV; by making ARV drugs available to mothers in African nations and providing the education around their use they hope to reduce the number of children born with HIV to zero. So far, Apple has raised US$130 million through the sale of (RED) products. A portion of the profits from (RED) products goes to funding ARV drugs in African countries to achieve the aim of a HIV-free generation. Apple’s (PRODUCT)RED iPhone and Watch are both available locally at Data Parts. Call us on (03) 5821 7155 or see them in store soon at 3 Edward Street, Shepparton. 02.01.2022 ENABLE 2-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION FOR APPLEID/iCLOUD Two-factor authentication (2FA) is an extra layer of security for your Apple ID. It is designed to ensure that only you can access your account, even if someone else knows your password. This system is far more secure than just a password as it requires multiple forms of evidence to confirm who you are and what you have access to. Just using a password means that anyone that knows that password can access your account. Using 2...FA requires not only something you know (your password) but also something you have (your iPhone or Mac computer) to gain access to your account. Many banks use this system by texting you a number before a payment is authorised. This means that even if someone knows your password they can’t transfer money out of your account unless they have your mobile phone to receive the SMS confirmation code from the bank. To enable 2FA on your AppleID/iCloud Account: On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later: Go to Settings > [your name]. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, go to Settings > iCloud > tap your Apple ID. Tap Password & Security. Tap Turn on Two-Factor Authentication. On your Mac (running OS X El Capitan or later): Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud Sign in if necessary, then click Account Details. Click Security. Click Turn On Two-Factor Authentication. This will confirm your mobile number and then send you an SMS verification code. Once you’ve enabled two-factor authentication it will say On under two-factor authentication on the main Apple iD page. Whilst you’re logged in, scroll down to the device section and check there’s no old devices listed that you no longer use. Remove these if you’re not using them any more. If you need assistance, contact us on (03) 5821 7155 or drop into our office at 3 Edward Street, Shepparton.
