23.01.2022 Saddened to hear of the passing of Sir Ken Robinson .... a great supporter of teachers and teaching a rarity . Visited the Blue school in New York last year ... brilliant .... a legacy of his influence and thinking . Creativity , design and harnessing the imagination of the students we teach ...D&T in practice .... Will be missed .

21.01.2022 We have had many highlights in NY , but today was an absolute gem visiting the Blue School in the Seaport /Financial district . Dawn Williams Director of Admissions spent spent valuable time with us showing us the school , classrooms and workable areas on both campuses Innovation & hands on learning is core . Tapping into learners curiosity about the world around them with a strong link to materials was also on display . The school opened its doors to both Susie and I... which was terrific . We saw many innovative uses of space and many examples of inquiry led learning for 3 yr olds to Year 8.... and plenty of D&T throughout all levels . The purpose of the school is clearly stated in all facets of their structure Reimagine education for a changing world.they go about this by creating communities of creative, joyful, compassionate learners who are encouraged to use courageous and innovative thinking when developing. At the core of the schools focus is develop and share an inquiry-based approach to education that fosters creativity, promotes academic excellence, nurtures human relationships and inspires a growing passion for learning. What the school VALUES - [ ] Creativity and Expression - [ ] Family and Community Connection - [ ] Global and Environmental Action - [ ] Multiple Perspectives and Differentiated Learning Styles - [ ] thinkers. - [ ] Playfulness, Exuberance, and Fun - [ ] Self-Awareness and Well-Being ] In the classrooms we visited and in the learning spaces that have been created all reflected these values and allowed learners to explore , create and collaborate in what I would describe as design led learning through inquiry . 13.01.2022 We hope wrapping up T1 and preparing for T2 remotely has been a success for all of you. DATTA SA will need to change the way we support our members during this time. We are starting to plan a remote PD schedule. We would love to hear your ideas in the comments: - Weekly or Fortnightly? - Wednesday at 4pm or 5PM? - Facebook Live or Zoom? - 40min or 60min sessions?... Also, comment if you have a session idea/request or if you would like to present (or nominate someone).

11.01.2022 Today we met with Dr. Reyes Limon Quezada .Reyes is the Chair of the Department of Learning and Teaching. He writes and teaches on the topics of Cultural Proficiency in k-12 and higher Education, English Language Learners, Internationalization, K-12 Teacher Diversity Recruitment, Issues on Faculty of Color, and Family-School Community Engagement and Partnerships, and Action Research. He also oversees the placement &practicum experiences for education students Again many issu...es were discussed , but the strong message of valuing placements as key to both practicum experience PLUS course work extensions . All students undertake at least 5-6 hrs in schools each week researching , practicing , inquiring or observing . D&T is also incorporated in teaching generally through competencies . Not sure of any specialisation in Secondary ... looking for links to share between USD and UniSA re- student cultural visits .... I volunteered readily . Wonderfully designed University , great grounds and buildings with Spanish architecture ..... my type of place ....supports life in shorts approach ! See more

10.01.2022 Susie and I visited Beginnings Nursery school in downtown New York .... Reggio at its best. Beginnings Nursery School aims to create a nurturing and stimulating environment in which children's curiosity is respected, creativity valued, and collaborations supported. They seek to strengthen the connection to resources in our world, including our community, neighborhood, city, and natural and found materials.. Spent a wonderful time with Director Jane Racoosin whibshared id...eas and approaches that allow learners to follow their interests , supports discovery and plenty of hands on learning through contexts of materials and the world around them ... had a great time learning & sharing ideas . 06.01.2022 On Friday we had the absolute pleasure & delight to spend valuable time with Dr Patricia S. Tate, Ph.D. Executive Director, Office of Professional Preparation and Accreditation (OPPA) & Katrina Slacey from George Washington University . Patricia is an Associate Professor, Curriculum & Pedagogy at GWU and Executive Director, Office of Professional Preparation and Accreditation. Scholarship focuses on practitioner research and self-study of professional development for univers...ity supervisors and ethical supervisory practices in development of the teacher candidate and has been the 2018-2019 President of ATE. We explored the connections between Uni SA practicum program and highlighted common practices and issues being faced within programs . Placements in schools is essential for the success of the Graduate program . a great deal of time and focus is spent on building positive and proactive ongoing relationship with school local nd regional to support the program . PD sessions , follow up meetings and on going support wwere key elements of the GWU program We explored the Design &Technologies as a subject area . Education is the most important investment a society makes. Thanks to the remarkable capacity and calibre of our faculty, students and staff, we are ready to meet new challenges, using principles of innovation and collaboration as powerful engines of change. This was a link to both our views on the status and value of Education programs being offered The Graduate School of Education and Human Development (GSEHD) is focused on a mission on graduate education organized within five departments: Counselling and Human Development, Curriculum and Pedagogy, Educational Leadership, Human and Organizational Learning, and Special Education and Disability Studies. These departments house master's, education specialist, doctoral, and graduate certificate programs..... next San Diego !
