25.01.2022 || PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE || . Many of us have quite vivid (probably catastrophic) images when we here the term "prolapse" So we'd love to provide you with a more clear definition of what Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) is, because there are a lot of women who have been diagnosed with POP . Pelvic Organ Prolapse is described as some degree of descent of the pelvic organs towards the vaginal opening. POP is complex diagnosis, as there are varying degrees of descent, vary experi...ences of symptoms not to mention that each woman's normal is individual . We understand how overwhelming a POP diagnosis may be and we want you to know that we're with you in this We are always free for a chat and will hold a safe space for you to share. . #dauntlessperformance #pelvicorganprolapse #pelvicfloor See more

25.01.2022 || STRESS URINARY INCONTINENCE || . Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI) is the leaking of urine during activities such as (but not limited to) laughing, coughing, sneezing, walking / running and is commonly experienced by #ladieswholift . These activities increase the pressure within our abdomen (Intra-Abdominal Pressure), which in turn pushes down on our bladder. Our pelvic floor is unable to withstand this pressure, in turn unable to maintain continence and therefore urine... leaks . Is SUI something that you experience, either in day-to-day life or when you're lifting? Is this something you want to change? . You don't have to LIVE with incontinence. You CAN change your experience. We're here to tell you there is HOPE! . #dauntlessperformance #incontinence #pelvicfloor See more

24.01.2022 PETA'S STORY Before falling pregnant, our client Peta focused on developing strength and maintaining consistency during her training. But as soon as we knew she was expecting, we had to change things up! FIRST TRIMESTER We started by observing Peta's natural tendencies both in and out of the gym. How was she breathing through exercises? Where was she directing created pressure? Where was she holding tension? We then implemented a personalised strategy to suit her needs.... SECOND TRIMESTER We adjusted the volume and intensity of Peta's training by reducing the reps, sets, and weights she was lifting. If Peta felt uncomfortable doing certain exercises, we made the appropriate modifications and substitutions. THIRD TRIMESTER Peta was confident in her personalised strategy and continued to train, using low intensity and low resistance. Peta's goal was to remain strong and healthy during pregnancy while keeping her bub safe. She noticed a significant improvement in her overall well-being compared to previous pregnancies and was able to continue exercising SAFELY throughout. Want to know more about how we create personalised strategies for pregnant women? Send us a DM or download our FREE e-book "Strength Training During Pregnancy" linked in bio!

19.01.2022 || URGE INCONTINENCE || . Urge Incontinence (UI) occurs when you have a strong, sudden need to urinate, which you may have trouble delaying. You might experience this as having to go to the bathroom frequently or having to go to the bathroom urgently and perhaps leaking some urine before you get there. . Urge Incontinence has been known to be linked to a hypertonic pelvic floor, which is one that is too tense and unable to relax. A hypertonic pelvic floor can be common for #l...adieswholift, as we are consistently training and strengthening the muscles that surround and connect to our pelvic floor muscle system. . Have you experienced UI? Is it something that you life with? Did you even know that there was a name for it? . You don't have to LIVE with incontinence. You CAN change your experience. We're here to tell you there is HOPE! Keen to chat with someone who understands, send us a DM! . #dauntlessperformance #incontinence #pelvicfloor See more

17.01.2022 || SAFE VS UNSAFE EXERCISES || Training during your pregnancy and into your postpartum chapter is unique for YOU. There is not one-size-fits-all or a "save vs unsafe" list of exercises. We encourage our ladies to approach their training during these chapters by being informed, creative and self-aware. We ask (and challenge) our ladies about WHY they want to do an exercise. Then we work with them to provide options and strategies on HOW to do the exercise that honours their bo...dy and the chapter their in. Each pregnancy and each postpartum journey in unique, and you deserve the support of a Coach who can help you navigate training during these chapters. #dauntlessperformance #pregnancy #postpartum #pelvichealth . . . . . #specialist #personaltrainer #strengthcoach #onlinecoach #coach #womenshealth #pelvicfloor #incontinence #pelvicorganprolapse #prolapse #pelvicpain #pregnant #postnatal #menopause #powerlifting #strengthtraining #weightlifting #strongwoman #strongwomen #shelifts #girlswhopowerlift #girlswholift #ladieswholift #strongmom #newmom

16.01.2022 SAFE EXERCISES FOR PREGNANCY As much as we'd love to be able to provide you with a list of "safe" and "unsafe" strength training exercises for pregnancy, we don't believe in this approach... Each person, each pregnancy, and each postpartum chapter is unique, and therefore deserves an individual and personalised approach.... So how do we do things at Dauntless Performance? We approach your training during pregnancy and postpartum by watching, understanding, and learning what your natural tendencies are. We then create and build an individual strategy for YOU! Our goal is to help you build confidence, resilience, and adaptability as your pregnancy progresses. We want to build and develop your short term pregnancy goals, in a way that will support your long term postpartum goals

15.01.2022 BREATHE IN, BREATHE OUT During client sessions, we focus a lot on the breath. Why?... Because it can have a HUGE impact on reducing incontinence and prolapse symptoms, as well as your general performance during training. The correct breathing patterns can change the amount of intra-abdominal pressure inside your core, which can lessen the amount of pressure that is put on your pelvic floor. It can also help to support your whole body during lifts (not just your pelvic floor!). So what breathing patterns do we recommend you do whilst exercising? This really depends on the individual as well as the exercise that's being performed. But a few strategies we encourage for our clients with pelvic floor considerations include: Breathe in deep at the start, and out through the entire rep Breathe out on exertion (the hardest part of the rep) Breathe in deep, let a small amount of air escape, then hold your breath for the rep (which is different to a Valsalva Manoeuvre) Do you consciously take notice of your breathe whilst working out? Let us know below

08.01.2022 STRENGTH TRAINING POSTPARTUM Earlier this month I visited the lovely ladies at @newlife_midwifery to chat to their New Parent Group about strength training postpartum. Here's a few things we discussed:... how Diastasis Recti (ab separation) is a natural, physiological occurrence in pregnancy why you should visit a Women's Health Physio before returning to training (to check your pelvic floor and Diastasis Recti) the importance of taking into consideration your recovering pelvic floor when returning to training (similar to if you were returning to training post shoulder or knee surgery!) a few strategies and tips on returning to training core during your postpartum chapter. If you are postpartum and ready to start training, then send us a DM or comment below!

08.01.2022 TRAINING FOR CHILD BIRTH... Child birth can be very unpredictable, which is why we don't believe in training for it! When a women is told she can train for child birth, it creates an unrealistic expectation that she can control the birth...... You can control the choices you make during birth, but not the birth itself! And so exercising during pregnancy shouldn't be about training for birth. Instead, the focus should be on: - building resiliency and developing adaptability through these chapters of pregnancy and postpartum - training with a focus on your long-term postpartum recovery and athletic interests - training for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby - training for the simple enjoyment of it - training with an awareness of your core and pelvic floor symptoms, so as to preserve and/or manage them, rather than creating new or aggravating existing symptoms We encourage you to approach training during pregnancy with the mindset of controlling what you can and surrendering the rest Want more tips on training during pregnancy? Download our "Strength Training During Pregnancy" eBook linked in our bio!

08.01.2022 WANT TO STOP WEEING WHEN YOU WORKOUT? Does this sound like you... You go to the bathroom in between each set just to be safe... You're cautious of training around other people You only wear black tights when you work out If your answer is yes, you aren't alone! Accidental urine leakage during exercise is a common occurrence for women with pelvic floor concerns. It's certainly nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about! But what can you do to help yourself stay dry during a workout? BE PATIENT! Firstly, it's important to remember that all good things take time. Try to be consistent and patient with your changes, it will be worth it! BREATHE! Your breath has an integral relationship with your pelvic floor. Understand and observe what you do with your breath while performing different exercises ... and consider being open to changing that. If you hold your breath when things get hard, try breathing out through pursed lips. TENSION TO TASK! A bodyweight squat SHOULD be different to a 1 Rep Max. It may not be serving you to create a tonne of tension in your warmups. It doesn't mean that you have to let your technique go, just save the good stuff for your working weight. Keep the tension you're building in your body relative to the task you’re performing. IDENTIFY YOUR LIMIT! Use each rep as an assessment. This may vary from day-to-day, session-to-session, but your body will show you it's limit on the day. Your limit may be a weight, a rep number, the number of sets, or even an exercise. If you need help to know what to look for, ask for help. That's what we're here for! Send us a DM if you have any questions

07.01.2022 || YOU'RE READY, NOW WHAT?! || . You're feeling it, the knowing that both your brain AND your body are now ready to get back into movement, exercise or training . Although you're feeling that itch to dive straight back into where you left off, we need to remind ourselves that our bodies may also still be healing from the residual effects of childbirth ... . It's exciting to know that we are able to start introducing aspects of strength training, however we need be smart about our approach We should aim to gradually and intentionally increase our workload overtime (ie. weights, sets, reps, difficulty of exercise, reduction of rest periods etc). . It's important to ensure we take other aspects into consideration as well, including technique and your personalised strategy .
