25.01.2022 This 1989 song co-written with Greg Macainsh of Skyhooks has only ever been recorded on a desk-tape cassette. This live recording comes from 89 and was nicely rendered for digital by the talented Tony Cooper. Johnny Leopard and Martin Cilia on guitars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcsliaCLP6I

25.01.2022 https://spoti.fi/332Irab Some of the songs I've written starting with the letter A

23.01.2022 Over My Dead Body is out and available at all good bookstores plus Booktopia, Apple, Amazon. Attached the Amazon ad for it a friend sent me today and a reminder that on Wednesday coming in the evening I'll be on a podcast for Words&Nerds. Thanks to all those who jumped in on the Bicton Records tee shirts. Later I'll be posting the Dave Warner Spotify playlist of my songs starting with C. (not all of them but enough)

20.01.2022 Perth. Suburbs. 1970s. Wish we could jump into the giant time machine and enjoy Leopard and beers for 20 cents.

19.01.2022 I'm so grateful for you friends and fans out there and your long term support - especially Bob Howard and Sue Howard and John Oliver and Donna Oliver. This track Was It Any Better Then is dedicated to you and Michael Edwin of Alfred Cove and Michael Brooks of Darlimular. Always thought this could have been a real good radio song but of course radio rarely played any of my stuff so it lay fallow for years. Just a demo version but it's pretty good and Tony Cooper helped make the original track with Martin Cilia sound pretty good. Maybe I'll put these desk tapes and demos on a cheap album and stick it on Spotify. https://youtu.be/2gu4AH2EiXk

18.01.2022 #MugsGame double-vinyl reissue now AVAILABLE to those in the #southwest thanks to the fabulous What's That in #Augusta and #Albany. They have loads of Warner merch: tees, cds, dvds. Great supporters of #Australian and #westaustralian artists like John Hood and Mat Taylor. Remember this not just the old Mugs Game but a DOUBLE VINYL with previously unreleased tracks from 1977. Also available website. Special pre-birthday wish to Jane Lillas always the first to help at the merch desk or on a door.

17.01.2022 Further to my post yesterday, a quick spotify playlist to give an indication of a Suburbs set - obviously this is the original artists not us in the cover songs and the order isn't quite how it would have been but - https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4iWzWugXmmbzGU13nIDVdl

16.01.2022 Big thank you Kristina Martin (your Mugs Game Tee is on the way) also Peter Ellis your Summer 78 vinyl 45 collector's item is heading to you. As many of you know it was a giant disappointment earlier in the year when we had to cancel Nicole's sold-out CD launch and I'm sitting here looking at a a bunch of CDs with no homes. I've also got plenty of WHEN CDs still and I'd like to get anybody who liked Mugs Game, Free Kicks etc to become acquainted with the songs on it as I re...ckon it's a great album. So from today until the end of September here's a SPECIAL OFFER. If you buy a WHEN album off my website I will automatically include a copy of Nicole's Forever And A Day album free. All songs written by @martincilia and me. No extra postage. I just want you all to hear and enjoy these albums. Just order WHEN and I'll make sure you get the bonus. March on. See more

15.01.2022 Hi readers out there. I believe that there is an opportunity via Better Reading to read an advance copy of my new crime novel Over My Dead Body, if you are prepared to write a review. I may have got it wrong but that's how I read it when I followed the link. Which I have added https://www.betterreading.com.au//better-reading-preview-/ Also, I am talking at 11.00 AM EST, 10.30 CST on line today for the Marion Library Through The Lens event about Over My Dead Body and River Of Salt my previous book. Not sure if it's too late to sign up for the Zoom meeting but give it a go if you're free.

14.01.2022 Big Big thanks to Bill Dine for taking advantage of the CD special - they are on their way, and Maddy Stangewitz your Mugs Game tees are winging their way to you - or at least bumping over a road somewhere. My friend and amazing audio tech/drummer you name it Tony Cooper played me this great little track by Reece Kirk so I put it out there because I reckon if you like my stuff you'll like this track. It's a very similar sentiment to my Spooks in the Dark (Correct Weight, You Tube). Anyway, hope you enjoy it. So much great music out there and we get swamped with crap. Have a great day and enjoy Nervous Man https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lz6ECDcRBOE

14.01.2022 You can now order most of my books from Booktopia - if you like the idea of 60s surf-music and murder then maybe this one is for you. And thank you for the tee-shirt order Colin Eldridge of Coburg North. It's on its way. Also thanks Brian Walsh of Morley for your long support. https://www.booktopia.com.au/river-of-//9781925591569.html

13.01.2022 Happy birthday to Rod Willis today - and if it's your birthday, also to you. And thanks Stephen Smykowsky of Alstonville and James Doyle of Banora Point for your great support. https://spoti.fi/3faFc5b

13.01.2022 Aug 18 I'm doing an on-line talk for South Australia's #MarionLibrary where I will chat about and read from my novels River of Salt and Over My Dead Body. OMDB was due out in July but has been put back till September. I will also be chatting on a #FremantlePress podcast and will give you details when they come to hand. OMDB is set in NYC with a series of murders there. I travelled last December for research and here are some photos of the first `murder location', #Roosevelt Island in the East River. Check here and my other social media for links to the talks And thank you Nick Murray of Nimbin - hope you enjoyed Before It Breaks.

13.01.2022 From Pus days one of my staunchest supporters has been Dave Ellery, Perth deejay who I first heard on radio back in the late 60s on 6PR when Keith McGowan and `The Good Guys' ruled the airwaves and ingenue Cherie Romaro started in the record library. When I got home from the UK in 1976 ready to launch Dave Warner's from the Suburbs, David got me into the studio to do a radio version of my Octagon return show `Grim's Back But Are The Screamers?' Snippets of that will be used ...on my upcoming audio-book. Later, as the Suburbs hit a creative high point in mid-77 with Haydn Pickersgill, Johnny Leopard, John Dennison and Stuart Davies-Slate, David got us in to record some tracks at the ABC in Perth. You can now hear these on the recently released Mugs Game Double Vinyl. David used to play Australian Heat on his `drive' program. It was also Ellery who gave me Molly's address so I could cheekily send him a Christmas card announcing to `look out' I was on my way! Here is the ABC contract $50 for 4 hours, not bad. Big thanks to Peter Horbury (Melbourne) and Douglas Ritchie (Qld) for ordering Mugs Game, hope you love it. See more

13.01.2022 They're here! A few of you indicated you would like like one of the Bicton Records tee-shirts so I had a very limited edition done. They are full-colour. Cost $48 includes postage. You can pay via Pay Pal to [email protected] or direct to the Anthem bank account. If you would prefer that please message me so I make sure I have your correct address. And of course let me know your size. (John Oliver and Andre Fritze I presume you will want one?) Nicole here is wearing a size M and holding the fabulous Mugs Game double vinyl. That, needless to say is also available. If you're feeling frisky perhaps a tee-shirt and album. Have a great weekend Suburban Soldiers!

11.01.2022 Great news yesterday that my latest novel River of Salt has been nominated for the prestigious Ned Kelly award for best Australian Crime Fiction. Today though I'm thinking music and my 2017 album WHEN that featured some of this country's finest musos like Lloyd Gyi Martin Cilia Tony Durant Jim Moginie, Greg Macainsh, Nicole Warner Richard Haynes and the beautiful late Greedy Smith. Focus song is Running Through Brixton that I wrote hoping to capture how I felt in Brixton 197...6 where I met Tony and did demos with MJ Feeney of Pus. Wonderful artwork from Michael Doherty that captures perfectly the ominous mood and the sense of constant movement and rush. Special thanks today to Al Byrne and Owen Thomas for purchasing from my website. And a big hello to long term supporter John di Falco. John your newsletter bounced back and suggested you might be heading to mountain streams for reading, listening to music, fishing and so on. Please go well and stay in touch if this finds you. WHEN available at Redeye, Dada and What's That as well as my website. Lyrics follow RUNNING THROUGH BRIXTON (Warner-Durant) Image Michael Doherty Running through Brixton with an axe in my hand Feeling lotta shit inside I don’t understand, Feeny and me got mighty big plans Now I’m running through Brixton with an axe in my hand Running through Brixton with an axe in my hand All I want to do is have a rock and roll band Feeney and me got mighty big plans Now I’m running through Brixton with an axe in my hand Oh says me one two three I’m not sure I’m ever gonna be Oh you whore six five four, I’m turning up with an axe at your door. Running through Brixton with an axe in my hand All I wanna do is have a rock’n’roll band Out of my way the taste of blood in my mouth Rubber tyres burn all the way to Clapham South Oh says me one two three I’m not sure I’m ever gonna be me Oh you whore six five four I’m turning up with an axe at your door. They’re lining Tower Bridge like murderous crows I’m running willy nilly don’t know where I’m gonna go Got anger in my gunnysack nobody understands Yeah I’m running through Brixton with an axe my hand One two three all I see mounting chaos and insanity Six five four I’m at your door , Who’s the hero who’s the whore? Make your choice, raise your voice the blade strikes down and Running through Brixton with an axe in my hand All I wanna do is have a rock’n’roll band Feeney and me got mighty big plans Now I’m Running through Brixton with an axe in my hand. I live for the moment that I felt that night All young braves and the fire burned bright Thirty five years I’m still the same man Still running through Brixton with that axe in my hands. Still running through Brixton with that axe in my hands. Running through Brixton, running through Brixton, Running through Brixton with that axe in my hand.

09.01.2022 Happy birthday to my old school pal and muso friend #TerrySerio who was on stage with me at the first Suburbs concert in 1976 and who sang this Western Bulldogs track of mine in fine style. @terrencecserio https://spoti.fi/37WcQIb Suburban salute today to Wayne Palmer of Palmerston ACT and Will Hughes Scarborough WA

07.01.2022 I now have three audio short stories out. Dead Cert the latest is a cozy mystery set in #MargaretRiver and introduces Magdalena Wray, a character I may run with in a full length novel. Tony Cooper did the audio engineering and production, I narrated. Dead Cert may not be available yet on all distribution channels but will be soon. Even though I set a low recommended price of $1.49 (U.S) some distributors charge a lot more. I know Google Play was offering the first two cheap. I'm looking to do one per month. These three are all crime but not all the stories will be. Dead Cert and Artspresso are 30 minutes or so, Cabin Pressure more like 15. Hopefully you can enjoy while queuing for a coffee (the coffee will cost you more than the story). If you like a full length audio book then quite a few of my novels are out there.

06.01.2022 John Dennison like most keyboard players has a fine attention to detail and kept a list of all the songs he'd had to play in the Suburbs as a lot of them required specific pre-sets on his synths etc. I think when we started we had over 60 songs and then we added more songs for Dave and the Dugites, our now and again fun country outfit that would sometimes play the middle bracket of our usual three, and Dave Mod and the Lambrettas our joint venture with Shane Bradhaw's Katz'n...Continue reading

04.01.2022 In 1988 Noel Davies had moved from Perth to North Bondi and he and I recorded a number of funny footy songs for Melbourne FM radio in his little flat. We also worked on tunes like Assassin that wound up on Surplus and Dearth. Happy birthday Noel, also Neil Osland and Kelly Austin. This one is for you all - and also Simon Kreveld of Mt Waverly and Vicki Hardaker of Alstonville for their past support. https://youtu.be/JCA_RsMaWMA

From the Dark Side of the Scrum album #Tunksy Is Not A Dirty Dog. Thanks also to Gordon Munsie of Dundowran Beach and John Gordon of Mount Macedin for previous support. https://spoti.fi/2Ec3Cx1

01.01.2022 Douglas Ritchie of New Farm thanks for your extensive order - it is ready to go first thing tomorrow. Found this old Top of the Pops program in my ephemera drawer. Supreme Court Gardens, Perth 1981 - good to see Billy Beare's name in print. Have enjoyed playing with him so much these last few years.

01.01.2022 Andy Latta of Earlwood, John Tait of Essendon and Clive Russell of Mona Vale thank you for your past support. I'm grateful every day for my fans out there be it books, music, whatever. And speaking of fans, while Sydney Swans lost last night they did not lose me as a fan as more young players got a further taste of the big time. Here's a clip from the talented Tom Henderson. https://bit.ly/3eFUZrL
