24.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Gidday, this is a recent example of a full water-wise makeover to a front yard, with 3 retic stations eliminated in the process!! The owners initial vision was for a grassed area, but a preference for reduced watering and maintenance resulted in a decision to proceed with the full rock garden.... Water can now be focused at the base of the plants where soil wetter and fertiliser in soluble form can also be targeted. An infrequent hand watering will suit these plants. A GREAT example of a viable alternative thats very reasonably priced

22.01.2022 Water Wise Wednesday G'day, Time to check the reticulation is all working 100%. As we return to the allotted days and run times there really is no excuse. Make sure your system is set to correct day, time of day and run time.... Days are, as we know, determined by the last digit of your house number. Check there are no leaks or faulty sprinkler fittings. If detected early these repairs can be done very reasonably. Not to mention you can be fined for running your system on non allowed days or for excessive run times. Hand watering is allowed pretty much anytime, so you can always keep the water up as needed. Can be quite therapeutic with your choice of beverage in your spare hand. Keep up the soil wetting agents & fertiliser. Recent activity and a few rose photos. First set, result of a little autumn care. See more

16.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Gidday folks, Autumn has arrived so this week's post has some great tips for your autumn gardening. Autumn is a fantastic time to get out in the garden. The days are getting shorter and the nights are getting cooler. Not only a great time for planting, this is the time of year when we focus on repairs and maintenance in preparation for winter: Turn Off the Retic Before turning off your reticulation system for the cooler months, it's always a good ...idea to do any quick repairs and maintenance before switching off. Now is the time for pruning. Remove any dead wood, leaves burnt from the summer heat and reshape your shrubs and hedges, promoting new growth throughout the season. It's also a good time for pruning trees that may cause a problem during winter storms. Feed and mulch your lawns and gardens. Autumn is generally a slow growing season. It's a good time for transplanting, repotting and planting your bulbs for spring and winter. Check for expired products Most products in the garden shed have a use by date. Its a good time to do a quick check and discard anything that is past its prime. Check your garden tools, fix broken handles, sharpen blades and treat for rust. Good tools that are working well make a big difference in the garden. Doing a few of these jobs in autumn will make your garden ready for spring and ensure your plants get off to a flying start. For all your gardening requirements, contact me today on 0422 048 615
15.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Already bored at home? With movement and socialising restrictions and more time at home the expectation, this is a great opportunity to spend time in the garden. Check your sprinklers, taps and reticulation and attend to those weeds that wont pull themselves out Add soil wetter, fertiliser and nutrient mulches to your garden, and fertilise your lawn ... These are just a few examples of things you can do to enhance your garden and prepare it for winter. Its a great way to pass the time..and you might have fun too! Stay well, and stay home

15.01.2022 Water Wise Wednesday. Gidday Everyone, As we near the cooler and wetter months it is time to think about some pre winter maintenance.... For example, the need to clean gutters, down pipes and soak wells. Water damage from over flowing gutters can cause major damage and costly repair bills. Removing built up leaf litter, ensuring down pipes are clear and cleaning around the grates to soak wells is essential home maintenance. Check the roof outlets to make sure flashings, seals and covers are secure and doing their job. It's also a great time to check them for any sign of corrosion as residue will stay wet and cause problems over time. If you run water to storage tanks, clean filters and grates to reduce contamination in your supply. Early detection is always a great way to prevent more serious damage and costly repairs. With the first front of the season forecast to hit the Southwest as early as next week, now is the time to attend to your roof plumbing. Will follow this theme for a few weeks with some other pre winter ideas to secure the home! See more

02.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Theres no better to time to be considering water-wise gardens. As global temperatures increase, maintaining a sustainable garden is becoming more difficult. Its been a hot summer in our southern suburbs and no doubt some of your plants have struggled. This little gem is called the ZZ Plant (Zanzibar Gem, or the tricky Zamioculcas Zamifolia). It has glossy emerald green leaves and thrives on neglect. It grows beautifully in a pot and will really br...ighten up a verandah or patio area. A tough little species, it tolerates pests, low light and dry air. The ZZ plant naturally stores water in its thick roots and stems, only requiring a thorough watering once a month. Other than showering it with admiration, the best advice is to IGNORE THIS PLANT. Water infrequently (dont sit in water) keep out of direct sun and it will love you forever
01.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Gidday, I hope youre all dealing with the restrictions. Perhaps using some time to invigorate your garden? Another great idea might be to plant a dedicated veggie and herb garden. This type of garden can be achieved in all manner of growing areas, including tubs, pots, planter beds, raised beds that can be made to use little water, hanging baskets etc. Nothing is nicer than home grown produce ... Its a great exercise for the kids to be involved - theres so much to learn in the garden! Many of the popular veggies, herbs and fruits are easy to grow. Follow the planting guide and I hope you have some success
01.01.2022 WATER-WISE WEDNESDAY Gidday, today I want to draw your attention to the benefit of Soil Wetting Agents. As we all know WA is a dry state where water penetration can be an issue. We have all had experience when watering where pools appear, water runs off and doesnt get to the roots. These agents can be applied in granular or soluble form and will give gardens and pots a whole new lease of life when applied according to the directions.... Currently I am on a work contract in Exmouth and had the joy of visiting friends who followed my advice on a visit in November 2019. Exmouth is notoriously dry. Just have a look at this Sago Palm (Cycas Revoluta) growth in the last few months Proof that this application stimulated excellent growth!! Believe me, you will see a significant difference in the health of your plants..and a reduction in the frequency of watering
