25.01.2022 Davelle Cool Beau N51 After 10 months at Genetics Australia collection centre, we have Beau home, looking a little exhausted!! After a few weeks on some oaten hay, hes coming back to normal and ready to get to work at Davelle on the weekend.... Hes been collected for New Zealand, Americas, Canada, South Africa, UK/EU and China/Asia. Using Beau as a pure South Devon out cross sire in your breeding program will add to growth, but not excessive he is a moderate bull. Most importantly improve all carcass traits with a big Eye Muscle and Marbling with softness in good rib and rump fats. His birth weight figures are in the top 20%, well below average. See in other posts his flyer and full range of traits. Beau still maintains his leading position in $Profit at $35,004 Contact your local supplier or Genetics Australia

Sire Wajatryn Jimbeam 2228 (Redskin X-Factor) and Dam Quicksilver Bonnie (Kapalee Bonnie 8). Just 2 year old. From WA he has settled into the cold SA winter, but still looking slick and smooth.

24.01.2022 This is a similar program were starting. Were also adding Simmental into the mix via Sim/Angus bulls. Its working in the States so should work here. South Devon add a new dimension to cross breeding programs.

21.01.2022 2020 Annual Sale Cancelled Weve decided not to hold our Annual Sale in 2020. Due to the recent dry we went hard on our bulls and have only kept the very best in type, performance and pedigree. In total 7 South Devon, 3 Droughtmaster and 2 Red Stabilizer bulls have been kept.... We have sold 42 cows and heifers to a new commercial breeder. Timely this reduced our numbers. We will have no females available for sale. All bulls are available for private sale. We will soon produce a catalogue with details and a Newsletter. If you have any interest please contact us.

16.01.2022 Last Fridays storm rolling in

16.01.2022 Judging at Clare. Found a great Murray Grey heifer from the Sanders Family.

16.01.2022 4 new Droughtmaster heifers delivered 20th September from High Country Droughtmasters. The 2 older heifers have been AId to Glenlands Sundowner and backed up by Davelle Paddy (see sale catalogue). The 2 younger heifers will get mated next year. We have mated up 20 females to calve in 2020. Interestingly that green has now gone!

16.01.2022 Genetics Australia 2020 Beef Sire Catalogue is now out. Davelle Cool Beau N51 has been taking the world by storm. Calves are now hitting the ground. Weve had 15 so far with a few more due, they come easy, are "peas in a pod", have great vigour and growing like mushrooms.... His data now includes $Profit HD50K genomics which has strengthened data. Beau ranks in the top 1% for 10 traits/indexes. The $Profit index is global and includes all breeds and Stabilisers (crossbreds). Beau is pictured as a 3yo out in the paddock in winter. He is still impressive! If you want improvement, pure or cross breeding, Beau is your outcross solution no matter what cattle you breed! Straws have been exported to many countries. 15.01.2022 2020 Davelle Sales Catalogue - Version 1 Please use the link to view our current catalogue. Next week we scan our cattle and new $Profit figures will become available after the analysis. We expect values to change due to scanning data. https://issuu.com//docs/2020_davelle_sale_catalogue_-_vers... If you have any questions or wish to discuss your needs please don't hesitate in contacting us

14.01.2022 This is why we use $Profit as an index for our operation. It does work, our herd has changed so much since utilising this index, cows are moderating but calves continue to weigh well at weaning. Out soon is our Sales Catalogue with high $Profit ranked bulls available for private sale.

13.01.2022 This is about right

12.01.2022 Normally today, we're frantically trying to get cattle organised for the long weekend shows - Melrose Saturday and Jamestown Sunday and Monday. Instead we've got a relaxing weekend with family and friends. Could get used to this??!!

11.01.2022 SA Beef Week Friday 7th February 2020 We open our stud up on the Friday and invite you to attend. The BBQ will be going, the kettle will be hot and the eskies full. Please join us to see what we are doing with red, black and slick coated cattle

11.01.2022 Something weve been working on. The first calf heifer is a Stabiliser (Leachman 18 Karat) x South Devon. The calf is Droughtmaster cross. See how they go?... Breed make up is about 50% Droughtmaster 25% South Devon with some Red Angus Red Simmental and a smakering of some other breeds. Our goal is to breed a moderate bos indicus type to suit our environment.

10.01.2022 Worth reading - as Ive said for a long time, we have to be much more proactive, or misinformation from the ignorant or deliberate activists will go a long way towards negatively affecting our social license to farm.

09.01.2022 I do like this article, especially the formula. At Davelle we believe in performance recording and analysis. Weve been recording data since 2003.... Change doesnt happen overnight, but over the generations and adhering to our Objectives you can see the improvement. If you want genetics that will improve your overall profit look to Davelle.

08.01.2022 Royal Adelaide Show Carcass Competition 2020 As this is only a carcass competition, there was no preparation just feeding. These steers werent the original ones selected and broken in. These are the ones that werent quite ready when we sold earlier.... South Devon steers are sired by Davelle Durango Nant M19 and Davelle J46 Regal M71. Droughmasters are sired by Glenlands D Utterley. These might be the first Droughtmasters entered in the carcass competition? When we get the details well post all details.

08.01.2022 Droughtmasters We kept 6 Droughtmaster bulls and have already sold 5. The last we have is a Spring 2019 drop bull. Sire is Glenlands D Utterly who has left us a great line of Droughtmasters. His dam is a Wingfield cow we brought in. Although young (reason why he hasn't sold yet) he is well put together and will be ready to work into the new year.... If you want to give him a go please let us know and we can work out a deal?

08.01.2022 We've added the recent scan data and weight collected last week in each bulls comments. Please remember we only run our bulls on grass and hay supplementation due to the season (not much needed this year!), there is no grain or extra feeding they are as natural as you'll get. There's been good interest and bulls have been selling, if you have interest please contact us. We now wait the $Profit analysis to bring all the data together into an easy to use format that really works!!

07.01.2022 Our first Davelle Cool Beau N51 calf born at Davelle. Born late yesterday, this heifer is solid and compact. Weighed 34kg. Dam, for interest sake, is an 8 year old Davelle Awesome Reg D8. Welcomed by one of the best frosts of the season?!... We have 18 more due to Beau from a natural mating.

07.01.2022 4 Davelle UB Righton H26 sons offered in Burtergill South Devons bull sale averaged $8,125 with a top of $13,500. They were a sound group of bulls with balance in overall type and performance with a pleasing eye to them. Thank you Richard and Denise in investing in our genetics and congratulations on your results. We have good amounts of Righton semen for sale.

07.01.2022 We've had good interest in our Black South Devon Bulls. We currently have 3 bulls available. Catalogue will be posted once we have had scanning data.... Red South Devon bull photos to come. If you want more information please contact us.

07.01.2022 Following and using the Leachman indexes helps us design profitable females

07.01.2022 Droughtmaster twin heifers. 2 very different types

07.01.2022 This is the progam we are following and utilizing at Davelle. Most importantly we utilise the Leachman $Profit analysis.

06.01.2022 With our Annual Sale being cancelled for 2020 we have decided to sell our bulls privately. Since starting our catalogue weve already sold 4 bulls. We have no females available for sale. Please find below the link to our catalogue... https://issuu.com/davellesd/docs/2019_davelle_sale_catalogue If you have any questions or wish to discuss please contact us

06.01.2022 Recent Sale Results We see many post of how much $/kg breeders are getting for their cattle? Why not post the actual $/head? This week we sold steers at SA livestock Exchange.... We decided to keep 2 to 18mth and still had their milk teeth. One was a Stabilizer (Leachman 18 Karat) x South Devon weighing 850kg and made $3.58/kg realising $3,043. The other was a pure South Devon, weighing 660kg and made $3.62/kg realising $2,389.20. Crossbreeding and hybrid vigour an additional $653.80! We also sold 4 x 9-11mth old pure South Devons averaging 436.25kg and made $3.60/kg realising $1,570.50 each. 6 steers averaged $1,952.36 each. "Dollars Per Head" pay the bills We are developing our Composite program. We have kept Sim/Angus x South Devon bulls and have many other crosses coming through. Together with the $Profit analysis to find these efficient high performing animals, we look forward to the benefits of hybrid vigour into the future for our clients.

05.01.2022 One of the biggest concepts being missed in our push to reduce emissions is that cattle are actually part of the carbon cycle, while extracting fossil fuels a...re introducing NEW greenhouse gasses to the environment. You cannot have a healthy human population nor a truly #regenerative system without animals, but they need to be managed well. Grasslands co-evolved with ruminants, and cannot thrive without them. Theyre also one of our best chances at sequestering carbon. Its very easy to say cows are bad but its a complicated, nuanced topic that Im trying very hard to unpack for you. The film and book will be out next summer. Visit sacredcow.info to learn how to join the cause and for more helpful blog posts and infographics that illustrate how cattle are critical to a future of #regenerativeagriculture.

04.01.2022 A nice commentary. If youre not doing everything you can to improve, are you improving?

04.01.2022 First Burtergill Henry 1105 calves at Davelle 10 days early. 2 heifers out of MJB Cool 548C 2nd calve females. Not much feed around, rocks are growing better than the pastures?

04.01.2022 Its nice to get a pat on the back!

03.01.2022 Last Fridays storm

03.01.2022 Cattle are being scapegoated for what fossil fuels are doing. Eliminating beef from your diet is not going to save the planet or your health. #sacredcow #yes2meat

02.01.2022 Davelle SA Beef Week Information

02.01.2022 And that is our Field Day done! A consistent flow of visitors all day from the Eyre and York Penninsulas, Adelaide Hills, Barossa and locals. The old shed has nearly seen better days, but still a great place to have a BBQ and a beer! We sold 1 bull (DVPP9) and 1 female (they were persistant so we found a great older cow PTIC). We have 2 MJB Cool 548C bulls still available (DVPP29 and DVPP37). Droughtmaster bulls will now be taken to Alice Springs Show and Sale. We plan to ta...ke 5.
