23.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who braved the rain to come along to yesterday's sale. We chatted to a wide range of interesting people while sheltering together under our bespoke rain shade (alright - it was a big tarpaulin held up with ropes!). The most popular purchases were Dendrobium (Thelychiton) epiphytic orchids, followed by our creative succulent gardens (it's great to have an artist on board to help with the design). It was too wet to get any decent photos, but it was great to get so much positive feedback from our visitors. We're looking forward to Spring growth on our growing range of interesting and unusual trees, and will keep you all posted. Keep well and stay dry. Dave, Susanne et al.
23.01.2022 This recent article reports that Kurrajongs are the most suitable tree for Canberra conditions.

13.01.2022 I'm running a 4 week on-line course to get you started on creating a cool outdoor haven or micro-oasis for your home. This outdoor space will keep you cool and ...sane during heatwaves. This is a great course for people who've never designed before or think they can't draw. I've taught hundreds of landscape design students an easy method to get them designing confidently. Book now to secure an early bird ticket and receive 20% off. Early bird tickets are $95 and are on sale until Sunday 7 June. Limit 30 - students. 12.01.2022 Introducing the Minijong. This elegant little tree is a miniature form of the Western Desert Kurrajong, Brachychiton acuminatus. The tree pictured is 16 years old. It's like having a Bonsai, but no need for the brutal treatment. As it grows so slowly it's hard to get grafting tissue from it so I have very few plants at any one time. It's frost sensitive but will go well on a sunny windowsill or enclosed courtyard in cooler areas, or outside in warmer climes. Contact Dave's Trees for more info.
11.01.2022 Check out these beauties. We collected seed from a normal Illawarra Flame, but amongst the normal seedlings these ones popped up! Are they a rare polymorphism? Hybrids? Mutants? Dunno. We'll dismantle them and graft onto B. populneus and B. acerifolius, so there will be lots for sale next spring to suit your soil type.
11.01.2022 This is an F2 hybrid of B. acerifolius x B. populneus (Illawarra Flame and Kurrajong). Genetic recombination at the F2 level generates an enormous range of unique genotypes that can sometimes give surprising results. In this case, the leaf shape is very similar to the Kurrajong parent, while the flowers are more reminiscent of the flame tree. Grafted forms of this variety will be available in October 2020.

10.01.2022 Check out some of the great trees we have ready to go at the moment...
05.01.2022 Thanks to everyone who came along to today's sale. It's great to know that the streets and gardens of Canberra will be blessed with dozens of new Brachychitons. The orchids were also very popular. Future sales will be announced here, but feel free to contact me between sales, through msg or mobile.
03.01.2022 These are pictures of the cells on the leaf surfaces of kurrajongs. The rounder, darker cells are the stomata, that the plant uses for gas exchange and transpiration. They'd make a really nice wallpaper
