22.01.2022 Happy Easter weekend. Its all about sanding for me today. Hoping to get a coat of oil on before sundown.

22.01.2022 Prepping the new posts for Nannys deck.

22.01.2022 Well, it took much longer than I had planned and was more work than I could have ever imagined. Had I known the huge job it was going to be, I probably never would have taken it on. Ignorance is bliss. There were more than a few times when I just wanted to give up. To add to it all, I was learning to be my own boss, battled glandular fever during the build and then juggled the work around full-time university classes and an unusually wet autumn. Finally, finally, everything old is new again and my grandmother has a deck that would support a helicopter (but the rotor blades would hit the house)!

21.01.2022 The sun is shining. No university classes today. The deck surface is growing!

20.01.2022 Some core drilling at my grandmother Marys house today to remove old rusted support posts. Slow going but its going to be stellar!

20.01.2022 Might not look like much is happening here, but the deck timber is going down! Today was the first non-rainy day when I didnt have classes (oh, did I mention Im a university student now?). This Red Balau is going to look classy.

19.01.2022 Made some scrolls for a handrail today.

17.01.2022 Wrought iron balustrade installed on heritage property today. (If you look closely, you can see the builders wedges still in place while the glue and concrete dry.)

16.01.2022 At last you can walk out of my grandmother Mary’s back door onto a rock solid hardwood timber platform! More than halfway done!

16.01.2022 Slight colour issue on this balustrade today. Paint was too red. A few squirts of black into the half tin of bright red, a gentle rubdown with some 320 and the perfect shade of dark red results!

14.01.2022 Between the torrential rains we have been having in Sydney and my university classes, the decking surface at my grandmother's house is gradually growing - and looking great! (Thanks to Aaron for his help on Sunday!)

14.01.2022 Next challenge (while I await timber delivery): Stair frame for my grandmothers deck.

11.01.2022 What’s next.. fingerless welding gloves

09.01.2022 Nannys deck frame is coming along as planned. Some posts replaced and others extended as needed. As soon as the purlins are delivered (this coming week) it will be all systems go to completion!

08.01.2022 For something a little different - my grandmothers back deck was rotting and getting dangerous to walk on. Its huge - about 75sqm! Ive just finished tearing it down and will be welding together a new steel frame to support the new hardwood boards. Its my first really big project and Im pretty pumped to see it take shape! Watch this space to see the progress!

07.01.2022 Happy Easter weekend. It’s all about sanding for me today. Hoping to get a coat of oil on before sundown.

07.01.2022 University classes are done for today so working on some personal projects in the garage to keep up my skills.

05.01.2022 Well, its taken a lot longer than planned with a few interruptions (like glandular fever), but Im back at it full force and its finally ready for the timber decking. Shoutout to fellow boily and a great mate, Scott Davies, who gave up his Sunday to help me get the purlins trimmed and tags welded.

05.01.2022 Crouching welder, hidden dragon.

05.01.2022 Just another day at the office.

05.01.2022 Stair stringers are secured, levelled, concreted and the whole surface is now ready for Red Balau timber deck boards as soon as this rainy weather lets up! Although no one in Australia is complaining a bit about this water from heaven!

03.01.2022 My mums winter veggie garden needed protection from possums and cockatoos, so I built her a walk-in enclosure with the hope of enjoying some fresh veggies! Besides, it makes her happy.

03.01.2022 Core drilling through tile and brick for installation of a balustrade. And who doesnt wear a white t-shirt while working in their trade?!

02.01.2022 Put aside my welder for today and picked up some heavy duty plastic and a roll of duct tape to patch up five skylights and a window at my grandmothers house that were smashed by hail from hell yesterday. At least it will keep the rain and bugs out until the repairs are done. Back to welding tomorrow.

01.01.2022 Whats next.. fingerless welding gloves
