24.01.2022 This is why the Adani Carmichael project (or any other mine in that area) must NOT go ahead. While this example is not an Adani legacy, Adani has an abysmal environmental record in India, in Africa and here at Abbott Point. Everything is wonderful while these mines are making money but then the operator typically sells the lease to the equivalent of a $2 company and walks away leaving you and I to clean up the mess.... https://www.abc.net.au//baal-gammon-mine-leaking-/10914440

23.01.2022 I've been arguing for many years that adding more lanes to motorways and other roads does not and will never solve traffic congestion. At the last election I opposed every suggestion that more money be thrown at the M1 arguing instead that the (at that time) promised $250 million should be spent developing Beenleigh into a commercial hub. Such development would draw some traffic south while other vehicles that would otherwise continue north toward the city would terminate at ...Beenleigh. That would include commuters using the Ipswich motorway swinging south rather than north. This changed traffic movement would have a massive impact on commute times. There is ample research proving that more roads do not reduce congestion. They simply encourage higher utilization at the cost of far more efficient public transport. The non-aligned, public 'think-tank', The Gratten Institute offers the same conclusion in a recent study of commute times in Melbourne and Sydney: The 'Lewis-Mogridge position' states that traffic expands to meet the available road space. "The government notices that traffic is particularly congested on a certain road, so it builds a big new expressway. When it opens, the time taken to get from A to B falls dramatically. But when people realise this, more of them stop travelling to work by public transport and start going by car. So many people do this that the speed gain disappears within months, even weeks. The time taken to get from A to B goes back to about what it was before the expressway was built." https://www.smh.com.au//don-t-assume-more-expressways-and-

12.01.2022 I don't think that the government can remove an 'elected' representative but let's show this miscreant how out of touch he is with the true pulse of Australian opinion. I may be opposed to our immigration policy but I am far more opposed to bigotry and ignorance.

12.01.2022 I've just published an article advocating a return to death taxes. It's a highly controversial subject but one that must be engaged if we are to maintain a just economic balance in our society. We are seeing extremes in wealth inequality that are equal to the extremes that sparked the French Revolution. No, I am not suggesting that today's underpriviledged are anywhere near as badly off as the wretched poor of that era. But in this supposedly egalitarian society, the top 20%... now have average household wealth that is almost 100 times greater than the bottom 20%. In fact, the top 20% own close to 70% of Australia's collective wealth while the bottom 50% own just 18%. And it's getting worse, not better Whether you agree or disagree with the content, it's a conversation this country has to have. As always, your feedback is welcome. https://ideas2live4.com//back-to-the-70s-death-taxes-revi/

03.01.2022 In the words of the musical, Evita... Oh what a circus, what a show! So many promises. So much smoke and mirrors. So few real committments on the one thing that really matters... the environment!...Continue reading
