25.01.2022 Repair find of the week- structural Benson & Hedges propping up the PCB in this bad boy #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #marshall #amplifier #footswitch #smokingkills

23.01.2022 On the bench tonight- a much needed recap on an old Roland JC120. Note the half assed previous attempt by some other clown that’s about to get redone right. Ugh. The old adage rings true yet again- there’s always time to do it right the first time the second time. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #coburg #roland #jc120 #jazzchorus #guitar #amplifier #badcaps #whenbadtechsattack

23.01.2022 Dear customers- I’m currently on semi-holiday doing science experiments like this with my nieces rather than fixing the stuff you’ve blown up. Back to work Wednesday, smell you later. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #holidays #sciencebitches

22.01.2022 Apparently this amp was recently serviced locally and stopped working soon after. This is how I found the mains fuse holder (I didn’t unbolt it, the bolt was not loose inside the amp, it’s nowhere to be seen). It actually left someone’s workshop like this. The owner is probably only alive because the power transformer died before they did (due to another bit of shit work). If you did this work, give yourself an uppercut. And quit before you kill someone. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #whenbadtechsattack #peavey #classic30 #tubeamp #deathtrap #fuckwits #cowboys

21.01.2022 Ok, quick update. One person from Business Victoria told me that under no circumstances can customers breach lockdown rules to come here. Another person from there just told me it’s fine, but only if you can prove it’s essential if you get pulled up. I have no idea who is right, but I do know that today I tried the legal workaround with a couple people and they failed to follow instructions miserably. So... I’m keeping the pause button in place on new drop offs, but pickups will be permitted at your own risk if you really can’t wait and if you follow the damn instructions I give you. Will reassess as we go based of government updates and how many people balls it up I guess #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #covid19 #socialdistancing

20.01.2022 Everybody right to go? Thought it was time for a quick update as I’m getting tonnes of calls about repairs. Through this whole lockdown I’ve been in frequent contact with @businessvic to try to make sure I follow the rules, which has been tough because every time I call I get different answers. They’re trying their best, but the official rules really are quite vague. Anyway, at points I was told I could work with courier pickups/drop offs, at other points I was told I could... only finish what was already here and most recently I was told I can’t even turn the shop lights on. I’ve tried to balance common sense with caution to navigate this, but essentially at this point the shop remains closed to the public a little longer. In theory in just over a month things can return to normal here, and fingers crossed things might change earlier (though I’m not counting on it). At any rate, rest assured that I’ll be back. If you’ve been waiting on anything sorry for the delay but my hands have been tied for months (not only directly by lockdown, but also with wider supply issues). Hopefully on Sunday when @danielandrewsmp makes the next announcement I can give you another update and start looking at implementing a repair booking list in advance and organising some pickups on finished jobs that have been waiting on the shelves. Tl;dr- try not to blow shit up for a few more weeks. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #covid_19 #melbournelockdown #getonthebeers

20.01.2022 Thought I was just going to change some bad sockets this morning. Found this clusterfuck when I pulled the board out. Ugh. Mondays. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #peavey #encore #tube #guitar #amp #jumperwires #surgery #fml

18.01.2022 Yep. Nup. No thank you. Say it with me- There’s always time to do it right the first time the second time. On the bench today- a recap of a recap on a Music Man HD-130. Flying leads everywhere, blobs of solder and cheap, bulging caps. Getting the TLC it deserves today though. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #tube #guitar #amplifier #musicman #hd130 #badcaps #badtechs #badtones #cowboys

16.01.2022 Just a quick heads up that (as always) the shop will indeed be open Melbourne cup day. Fuck animal cruelty and everyone who partakes in it. #nuptothecup #melbournecup #animalabuse #horseracingkills

16.01.2022 Facepalm of the day- the phantom power circuit design of this thing. Raise your hand if you build audio electronics and can do a simple resistor divider calculation... (hands down, Allen And Heath. Hands down.). #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #coburg #mixingconsole #baddesign #basicmath

16.01.2022 Sooo... my shop happens to fall about 3 metres inside a lockdown postcode. And while I still seem to be allowed to work, I’m really not sure if you’re allowed to come in for drop offs/pickups or if you/I can cop the epic fines they’ve warned about. So until I can get a clear answer on this I’m suspending any new drop offs. Pickups MAY still be possible, once I have clarity on the rules about that I’ll discuss it with you when I contact you about your finished job. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #covid19

16.01.2022 Update time! I’ve been so cautious about following the lockdown rules, and have been in constant contact with @businessvic to ensure compliance. Unfortunately/fortunately I’ve just received confirmation that months of previous advice they gave that I couldn’t have drop offs or even work alone in my shop was incorrect. ... After a LOT of back and forth, I now have written confirmation that I CAN work, and jobs CAN be handed over on a click and collect basis. Aside from careful social distancing, the only major catch is that it’s emergency work only. There are no official guidelines on what that means so it’s going to come down to your judgement (please take this seriously though, let’s not have a third wave over a scratchy pot on a DS1...). As far as I can tell this means things like safety issues, risk of further damage without urgent repair or if the equipment is essential to your (permitted industry) livelihood. For non-emergency work, I am also now taking bookings for drop off appointments from October 19th onwards (subject to restrictions changing on schedule). I imagine there’ll be quite a backlog so first in, best dressed. Cheers, keep your masks on! #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #covid19 #melbournelockdown #guitar #amplifier #recordingstudio #livesound

15.01.2022 It. Never. Fucking. Ends. Check out this reflow job some clown did on a @fender Blues Junior. No idea where this one copped it, but I do know they sucked. I’ll say it again, people- if you CAN’T solder, DON’T solder ... #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #fender #tubeamp #bluesjunior #whenbadtechsattack

15.01.2022 What do we do when the world is falling to shit? Damn straight- we clean and calibrate. #proaudio #electronics #repair #restoration #melbourne #brunswick #cleaning #calibrating #rainydayjobs #hewlettpackard #fluke #tektronix #nerd

14.01.2022 Hey kids, sad times. @businessvic confirmed for me this afternoon that while hairdressers putting their grubby mitts all over countless peoples heads is now apparently totally safe, fixing amps by myself behind a closed door in my workshop is still a no go (aside from a small trickle of emergency repairs). So the wait continues. Anyway, to tide us all over here’s a long form rant about why it’s always better to do the job right the first time. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #tube #guitar #amplifier #mesaboogie #lonestarspecial #orange #th30 @orangeamplifiers @mesaengineering

13.01.2022 Ok, I know I rant about bad work on here a lot, so let’s flip it around. Appreciation time- Shoutout to Melbourne’s own Voller Transformers for going the extra mile yet again. Nobody will ever see this replacement transformer for a vintage Gibson GA-20, but Paul took the extra time to not only build a great transformer but also make it look the part. It’s those little things that just make your day. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #tubeamp #tube #guitar #amplifier #gibson #ga20 #transformer #custom #handmade

13.01.2022 Hey peeps, unfortunately history has repeated and due to a major plumbing issue here I’ve got to close for the rest of the week. Relax, your gear is safe, it’s in another section of the building, but a temporary show stopper nonetheless. I’ll clean up for a few days and hopefully resume work next week. Apologies for the delays. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #shitbodycorporate

11.01.2022 Sometimes you’ve just got to balance the karma a bit. This thing came in blown up, and the manufacturer response was It has to be shipped back to America, no schematics for you. The only help they offered was a curve ball instruction to change a couple parts, but with a bum steer on part numbers. Dicks. Anyway, fuck them, I fixed it without them and I’m waiving the extra bench time and kicking the basic bench fee to the @asrc1 instead. Peace. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #australia #guitar #pedal #effects #badcustomerservice

11.01.2022 Ugh. Some days you just wanna name and shame. Check out this shameful recap attempt on a Hot Rod Deluxe I just found. Must be one of those newfangled solder-less caps? Same amp was biased to twice where it should be as well. Classic. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #tube #guitar #amplifier #fender #hotroddeluxe

10.01.2022 Heads up to the local tech consistently churning out bullshit like this- you’re going to fucking kill someone one of these days. And I’m edging closer and closer to publicly calling you out to avoid that. We all know, we all talk about it, we just keep giving you chances to learn and improve but you never do. Pick up your game or get out of the game, enough is enough. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #badtechs #cowboys #electricalsafety #atleastaddafusedipshit

09.01.2022 Let’s try that again... After a couple of false starts, I’m stoked to finally be able to say it’s time to reopen. Starting Monday I’ll be accepting regular jobs again (no longer strictly emergency repairs). Pickups/drop offs will remain click and collect from the curb until health advice changes, but otherwise I’ve been given the all clear to fire up the soldering iron again and take appointments! #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #melbournelockdown #covid_19 #wearamask #recordingstudio #livesound #guitar #amplifier

08.01.2022 Unbelievable amp fact of the day- Marshall sold these with a straight face. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick #marshall #jcm2000 #tube #guitar #amplifier #fuckedfromthefactoryfloor #clusterfuck #giveyourselvesanuppercut #bplusongridsdoesbadthings

08.01.2022 Back in Brunswick and open for business #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick

07.01.2022 Time to play the Find the bad solder joint(s) game. No schematics. No fun. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #coburg #soldering #mixing #console #recording #studio

07.01.2022 In today’s episode of No Schematic? No Problem!- a resurrected @radialeng JX-42. A classic case of I can haz schematic? You can go fuck yourself, peasant tech! Cool cool. I’ll do it the hard way then. 02.01.2022 Story time! Hi friends. Long time no post. As many of you legends know, I’ve spent much of the last two years being absolutely ratfucked by the pinheaded little real estate agent prick who handles my shop. I’ve been flooded, overcharged, undercharged, brushed off, insulted and jerked around. Even after taking legal action the dramas continued. Until today. As of today I’ve given instructions for him to ferociously go fuck his hat, and I’ll be moving the shop over to Brunswick in the coming weeks. Feels good, kids, it feels damn good. #proaudio #electronic #repairs #melbourne #brunswick #realestateagentsarescum #moving

02.01.2022 Ok. Not quite back in action just yet, turns out the body corp in my building is about as capable of solving problems as Behringer is at making reliable audio gear. I’m finally starting to get to last Tuesdays jobs now, will be ramping back up to full capacity again over the coming weeks. Workshop cat pic because he sums up my feelings perfectly in it. #proaudio #electronics #repair #melbourne #brunswick
