24.01.2022 Very pleased to be able to launch a new vision for the Lancer Barracks in Parramatta with Planning and Public Spaces Minister Rob Stokes yesterday. Parramatta is transforming into a thriving metropolis yet it lacks adequate public spaces for the growing number of residents and workers in the city. Hidden behind a restrictive security fence is the Lancer Barracks - a historic but underutilised Australian Government defence site that could be repurposed as a new public square f...or the city. Less than 1% of the Parramatta CBD has any form of accessible green space. Opening up the Lancer Barracks as a new public square, alongside the new playing fields for the schools on the site of former Arthur Phillip High School, would create up to 1.1ha of new green and public space for Parramatta's limited public domain. The proposal would take an existing prime location in the City of Parramatta that is essentially closed to the public and transform it into a new space that would allow the community to forge a stronger connection with the site's rich military history and make it a new centre for recreational and social activity in Parramatta. 21.01.2022 The Powerhouse has announced the opening of the Powerhouse Community Space in Parramatta Square, a new location for the community to discover more about Powerhouse Parramatta, engage with the Museum’s STEM learning activities as well as learn about its iconic collection. Including a virtual reality (VR) glimpse into what the new Museum will look like, the space will welcome the community in to learn about how Western Sydney’s first Cultural Institution will transform arts and... culture across Greater Sydney. Open Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout summer, the Powerhouse Community Space will provide the local community with an opportunity to speak with the Project Team and Powerhouse Staff about the future of the new Museum.
