05.01.2022 A recently completed mortared stone wall below a polished concrete deck with glass balustrade in Sandy Bay. Naturally weathered dolerite boulders were used to provide a pleasing contrast with the smooth modern finish of the deck and house renovations. The dolerite boulders are of the same rock type as in the pre-existing garden retaining walls and adjoining bushland reserve, ensuring that the new construction fits well with its surroundings. The cover photo shows the same wall in the evening with illumination from strip lighting attached to the underside of the concrete deck. Paving with dolerite slabs and gravel infill completes the transition between the house and the native bushland garden.

01.01.2022 Construction of gabion walls for a new house construction site at Tolman's Hill. The gabion cages were constructed on site from panels supplied by Permathene in Sydney. A pneumatic clip gun was used to rapidly assemble the cages. The wire panels come in a variety of dimensions and mesh sizes and can be further cut and clipped for site and design requirements. The wire is coated with Galfan which has superior durability and corrosion resistance to standard galvanising. Stainle...ss steel panels are also available. The 2.5m free-standing gabion wall is reinforced by 100mm steel rail and posts which are joined to the steel framework for the deck, set in a concrete footing and enclosed by the stonework. The rock is of a variable limestone/mudstone composition and was carefully selected at the HBMI quarry before loading and delivery to the worksite. See more
