23.01.2022 How dancers socially distance! @thestudiodanceandarts

23.01.2022 Hooray!! - Sad this was left so long and many of my patients, friends and community were left thinking how to go on, but let's hope this can help stimulate and rebuild this socially and economically essential industry. https://dancemagazine.com.au/2020/06/arts-rescue-package/

22.01.2022 What is the best piece of advice you have ever received about your health? (from Lucy or anyone?)

22.01.2022 It's common for people to seek help and dwell on the past surgery, management, injury or lack of help. While we respect and acknowledge these factors, and they may help us plan your new direction, we focus on what we can do from now. What can we change? What can't we change? What should we change? Something normally has to change - finding exactly what is the result of listening, observing, trying, testing, maybe failing, retesting, retrying and then succeeding. First, we listen... come and tell me your story and together we will change the ending.

20.01.2022 Do you struggle to remember your home exercises? Need a reminder to do them!? The Telehab app from VALD is my choice for patients' home programs with options for tracking pain, effort and sending notes to me! Patients love it and anything that helps gain and maintain strength, movement, balance and function is an enormous benefit to helping return to a full painfree life.

18.01.2022 One of the best things I have done in my career is working this year with Sheanna. Clinicians working side by side, sharing ideas and discussing the best outcomes for the patients is how medicine should be.

13.01.2022 Dancers Musicians Actors Circus performers Artists - "free" Physio for you... The performing arts world has been my lifeblood for the past 14 years with many wonderful experiences helping dancers, musicians, actors, singers, circus performers, stage crew, producers and all associated workers stay on stage, side stage, behind stage or front of house! The current situation's effect on the arts world is heartbreaking to say the least and if there is something I can do for you to... perhaps help you stay fit, finally get rid of that niggling hip (or knee or shoulder or back or...) and ensure you are really ready to go again when the world returns to some form of normality - then please get in touch. You may be eligible for a EPC plan from your GP if you have a long term condition and meet other criteria - this can get you up to 5 Physio sessions with no out of pocket expense (because at the moment I will do that). If you do have private health cover we can use your rebate to cover your first consult and at least get you going with a plan. If you have neither but really need help then let me know and we can look at a plan for you. The arts world has been a big part of feeding my family and my soul for the past 14 years, if I can do anything to now help you then I look forward to talking soon. David

12.01.2022 Growing, active kids are at risk of developing upper shin or heel pain with the return to sports, dance and more activity. These conditions almost always DO NOT need complete rest and can be managed to allow activity to continue. Have a look at this infosheet and get an assessment early to get the best personalised advice.

12.01.2022 My office for the day! Such an honor to be working with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as they transition back to their full glory! Started the day with a little Dvorak! #musicianshealth

12.01.2022 We can help your pain online!! Telehealth services are a great way to get the advice, management and exercises you need for most body pains and movement problems. Despite the current official position that Physios can stay open, I have made the decision to cease face to face consultation for the moment. With telehealth we can ... listen, (the number one thing we need) observe movement, help you perform many tests, discuss your pain and concerns, provide a working diagnosis, provide self treatment options, create and progress exercise programs send you exercise supplies or see what you have in and around the house and through all of that, we can help you reduce pain! The Physiapp can deliver your tailored program straight to your device and we can monitor pain, progress and easily adapt! We can't of course provide remote manual therapy techniques but at the moment that's the whole concern with virus transmission. My telehealth service are up & running later today at reduced rates to cater for the rebate differences. We are finding we can achieve a lot together online! Click BOOK NOW to take you to my website and booking pathway or give me a call on 0403287410 David

11.01.2022 If you are 1. Not injured 2. No Hx of significant injury or pain 3. looking for a great whole-body, at-home conditioning program then have a look at this from a long time colleague.

10.01.2022 I'm sure most people feel this way about medical!! Hey David it's ----------- I just wanted to say thank you so much for all your time and effort you put into helping me fix my ankle. 09.01.2022 Musicians Dancers People in pain!!!! I am delighted to resume clinic next week (Monday April 20th) with appointment gapping and expanded hygiene protocols. (This everybody handwashing thing might even last!) Monday PM, Wednesday AM and Thursday PM at Ashgrove... Friday AM at Tarragindi Book online at www.davidpeirce.physio for Ashgrove or ring Tarragindi on 33424284 If you are unsure about coming in or just need a chat before making an appointment please call me on 0403287410

08.01.2022 Dancers please read and share this important insight from someone who has earned he right to say it! The injury risks associated with dancers, teachers or parents pushing too early to achieve skills, technique or 'tricks' are real. Do your basics forever, do your calf rises, do your foot intrinsics , strengthen your turnout muscles and your trunk, don't stretch the life out of your splits - let the skills, grace and power develop gradually and you will have a better chance ...to spend more time on stage and less time in medical rooms. If you need guidance to know how to do all these things we can help. Ballet Theatre Queensland See more

08.01.2022 Should you ice an acute injury? The latest research is questioning whether ice is useful at all! https://www.davidpeirce.physio/how-much-should-you-ice-an-/

07.01.2022 Is it safe to get Physio treatment at the moment? The medical community is closely watching the current situation and taking guidance from our own associations and government guidelines (advised from medical experts). At my Ashgrove & Tarragindi rooms I am able to provide clinics with strict hygiene practices between patients and minimal or no contact with other persons in the waiting room. ... I continue to provide Physio services as I meet what I believe are safe guidelines for continuing practice (no symptoms, no recent travel, no known contact with a person with a +ve case) and also of course strongly feel that all health services are essential to the well being of the community in general. Of course if you are unwell then we expect you will not attend (as we would all the time). This situation it seems may go on for a while and we can't all just stop looking after all aspects of our health. We are open, as safe as we can make it and ready to help you not have back pain, neck pain, sore knees, headaches or any other pain or problem that makes life uncomfortable or difficult. If you are now working from home then imagine what we can achieve together with the time to do those exercises, get on top of that cranky neck or back and use the extra time to better your health. www.davidpeirce.physio

06.01.2022 To the dance world in Brisbane

05.01.2022 Dancers! Do you love this stretch? If you do it before class it may feel nice but it is NOT an effective warm up for dance! Warm up should be dynamic to increase muscle temperature and prepare for movement. (BTW Ugg boots and tracksuits are NOT an effective warm up!) Research has shown a decrease in performance ability after static stretching (jump height especially) so use your time wisely before class. Ballet class is a traditionally a gradual progression but jazz, hip hop, contemporary and other forms can start with a bang, so a good warm up is essential to minimise injury. Static stretching is best done after class as part of your recovery protocol (including hydration & nutrition).

04.01.2022 Do you know someone who would benefit from Mums and Bubs equipment based Pilates?

04.01.2022 So how did your pain start? "It just sort of slowly built - I didn't have any accident or trauma" Today's medical word is one of my favourites due to it's derivation!

04.01.2022 A very important article for dancers, teachers and parents. Better aerobic fitness reduces injury risk and can enhance performance - what else can you ask for? Oh - and do your calf rises and foot exercises!!
