20.01.2022 This applies to computers as well. Regular servicing and performing regular back ups reduces problems and costs.

19.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS UPDATE Usual Hours of Business 8:30 AM to 1:00PM 2:00PM 5:00PM... Monday to Thursday 8:30 AM to 1:00PM 2:00PM 4:30PM Friday I am limiting customers to no more than 2 in the shop at any one time. There is tape on the floor marking the social distance requirements. The door is getting wiped down after each visit. All computers are wiped down prior to starting work on them and before being handed back. As I am immunocompromised and on chemotherapy I will not be doing site visits for the foreseeable future.

17.01.2022 Please, Please, Please do regular back ups. There is a Windows 10 Update that seems to format hard drives if it glitches, and as I have discovered over the last fortnight data recovery is an iffy proposition even with the software I have.

16.01.2022 This is a re-share from earlier this year. This scam is still going on.

15.01.2022 School holidays are coming. Time to get the computer ready.

10.01.2022 I would like if I may, to discourse briefly on the subject of Product Keys or Serial Numbers. Those annoying strings of letters and numbers you have to enter when you install a program or app to prove that its legitimate. Please dont lose them or throw them away. Youre going to need them again. Put them with the install media. Register the program with its manufacturer because if you do lose the key/serial number that gives you a reasonable chance of being able to recover it. Write them down somewhere. Take a photo of them with your phone. Because if they are irrecoverable you are going to have to pay for a new copy of the program or app. mmmmk?

09.01.2022 CLOSED TODAY Its Chemo Day for me Back Monday

08.01.2022 I fully comprehend the irony of using facebook for the following post. People!, if that document you just wrote is important - back it up!, better yet print it ...using a laser, not inkjet, printer. Dont keep your family photos on one hard drive! put them on a CD, take them to a reputable photo place and get them printed using photographic inks on proper photo paper. Make copies and pass them around your family. Buy CDs and DVDs and rip them to your computer if you absolutely must. Have back-ups off-site. keep a usb stick or external drive with your home stuff at your work or at another family members place. Dont put your data in "the cloud", sure its free (at the moment), but sooner or later youre going to get charged to access it. And who-else is accessing it? Companies make a lot of money data-mining. Data stored on a computer is ephemeral, it has no real existence. Hard drives fail and not matter how good your personal IT guru is, sometimes your data will be totally irrecoverable. I spent 12 years as a Records officer, and the mantra of Records Management is, "If its not on paper, It doesnt exist" See more

07.01.2022 School holidays are coming. Time to get the family computers ready for the onslaught.

07.01.2022 IT REALLY GRIEVES ME TO WRITE THIS. I LOVED XP BUT... OWING TO THERE NO LONGER BEING ANY WAY TO ACTIVATE WINDOWS XP LEGITIMATELY OR ILL-LEGITIMATELY THAT DOESNT INVLOVE SIGNIFICANT RISK OF INFECTING THE COMPUTER OR CAUSING THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO HAVE TO BE RE-INSTALLED AT THE END OF THE THIRTY DAY GRACE PERIOD, AND THAT MICROSOFT HAS SEEN FIT TO REMOVE OR CAUSE TO BE REMOVED ALL ITS OWN KNOWLEDGE BASE ARTICLES FOR XP AND OTHER SUPPORT ARTICLES FROM OTHER SITES OF KNOWN INT...EGRETY. AND THAT MOST DOWNLOADS FOR FIXING XP PROBLEMS ARE NOW COMING FROM SITES KNOWN TO LOAD VIRUSES INTO THE PROGRAMS AS OF 18 MAY 2018 I WILL NO LONGER BE SERVICING WINDOWS XP SYSTEMS. ITS TIME TO UPGRADE. ID RECCOMMEND GETTING A MAC.

04.01.2022 Time to get ready to go back to school or work. Book your computer in for a service now. Please be aware that the "Telstra Scam" is still a thing

04.01.2022 Shop is shut for the rest of the day Ill be back Tuesday. This is why the shop is shut

04.01.2022 This is still a thing. I had one in this week. People- Microsoft, Apple, Telstra or whoever are NEVER going to ring you up about your computer being infected. ... If in doubt ring me. Its one of the things Im here for. Youre not wasting my time if you call, and with any luck you wont be spending money you have a better use for.

02.01.2022 Its that time again. I wont be open this Friday 25th May. Chemo time! Yay! (not).

02.01.2022 CORONA VIRUS UPDATE I Am Still Open And Will Remain So Until Told To Close By The Government Usual Hours of Business... 8:30 AM to 1:00PM 2:00PM 5:00PM Monday to Thursday 8:30 AM to 1:00PM 2:00PM 4:30PM Friday I am limiting customers to no more than 2 in the shop at any one time. There is tape on the floor marking the social distance requirements. The door is getting wiped down after each visit. 02.01.2022 Just had a call from a long standing client. They had just got off the phone from "Telstra". Apparently their computer was badly infected and if they didnt do what "Telstra" told them to do their internet service would be cancelled for a period of ten months starting tomorrow. THIS IS A SCAM. ... Should you proceed the first thing they will ask you to do is download something like TeamViewer (a legitimate remote access program) they will then take over your computer, load some "anti-virus" software which will flash up a screen saying you have a gazillion viruses and other problems. They will then tell you they can fix it for a price and ask for your credit card. By the way your computer is now REALLY* infected with stuff they have put on your system. And by tomorrow your credit card is most likely going to be maxed. The correct response is to, in your favoured choice of words, tell them that they are not from Telstra and are full of shit. Then hang up. Dont be surprised if they immediately ring back and abuse you for hanging up. Hang up again. Make note of the number they called from. Ring Telstra or your Telecommunications provider and report the call and the number. Then ring the Telecommunications Ombudsman (1800 062 058) and do the same. *REALLY REALLY INFECTED. This stuff is seriously nasty, as in "Im not even going to hook your hard drive into my system to back up your data" level of infected. Your data is gone. If you happen to have a hard drive hooked up as a back up, its probably (90+%) infected too. YOUR DATA IS GONE. I will nuke the drive probably 5 times creating and erasing the partition/s. I will then re-install your OS and programs. and I will charge $210.00 to do it. So hang up.

01.01.2022 I will be closed from 5:00PM Tuesday 30 October Until 9:00am Monday 5 November.
