19.01.2022 After reading this article I understood toilet paper, It's about having the confidence to maintain personal hygiene when times get tough. It's on a par with food security. Thirdly, a way of maintaining social contact in these times of social distancing is important. Social media comes to the rescue to prevent cabin fever. We are seeing something else quite amazing happening too, and that is with the the government support packages, the government decides the level of unemplo...yment (not the economy). It is one of the miracles of the age we live in that sovereign governments that prints it's own currency has the capacity to do this at any time as we see right now. the Modern Monetary Theorists MMT has a lot to say about this. It's a simply concept, the government buys up untapped resources, in this case by supporting people out of work for whatever reason to maintain cash flowing through the economy until the crisis is over, thereby maintaining people in readiness to be released back into the private employment sector and kick starting productivity. It's the difference between maintaining a good engine in running order, as opposed to fixing an old broken down one. I've been trying to get my head around MMT for some time. Until today listening to Bill Mitchell talking about the old wool stores, a system which insured wool growers against hard times. In times of low prices ie over supply, the Wool board would buy up the surplus to maintain the price, and release it onto the market when prices were high. We see a similar thing happening now with the government 'buying up' surplus jobs. It's no more a matter of welfare than issuing government bonds that are a rock solid investment for investors. There are so many things to be grateful for, right now.

18.01.2022 I have great respect for Stan Grant. This piece of his today is a must read. We need to be thinking about what we want to happen when the pandemic is over, not waiting till the pandemic is over.
