19.01.2022 We may be busy, but can use time as an excuse for saying, 'I don't see it as being important'. Think about what you really want to say the next you say 'I don't have time'. What do you have time for and why?
11.01.2022 What do you need to happen before you start down the path of personal change?
09.01.2022 What is it about Yoga that keeps bringing me back? I'm not terribly flexible, in fact there are parts of my body that I have found very challenging to get moving. I have a dodgy knee, funny back etc. But I keep going back. Why? I started back at yoga in early 2019. I attended two led classes thinking I was able to keep up........wrong! ... Wherever I looked during the class everyone else was bending more, less out of breath, and doing it with relative ease. It was humbling and while no-one made me feel this way, I was embarrassed. I felt that I 'should' have been better at it, whatever that meant. So I didn't go back for about 8 months. Until I realised I wanted to go back, but I needed a different mindset. I had to start where I was at - you know how you often think that 'I'll start when......' the truth was it was never going to happen until I started first! I had to accept the reality of where my body was at first, and ask for help. Now what this allows me to practice is kindness towards my body, for what it can do, and what it can't do. As funny as it sounds, I am grateful for how my body has carried me all these years. But it's learning to work within my understanding of my body and nurturing it, I also need to push it a little with each posture I practice. This leads into the mental side of it where I continue to understand my body, the emotions that are often triggered when I practice and continue to learn patience. I have become more flexible, slowly. I have become more patient, slowly. But I see it as a very deep way of getting to know myself and be comfortable with that. It is really a way of understanding how we see ourself, our place in the world, and learn how to be comfortable with that, while growing both physically and mentally. Don't ever stop learning - about yourself and how you can be in the world. By the way, my teacher is Ryan Pedley, who runs No Mind Yoga in Mount Martha. A great teacher and lovely man.
03.01.2022 Being aware of our thoughts is the start of change. Learning to let go of them and know you are not your thoughts is transforming.
