25.01.2022 Copper theft is a growing and frustrating issue. You might have seen cords being cut off appliances, but people are also stealing copper wiring and pipes from h...omes and construction sites and hot water systems. Theyre even stealing memorial plaques, sculptures and from Western Powers electricity network - creating serious safety issues. Its disgraceful, its dangerous, its frustrating and its causing expensive issues for our community. A big factor for why its happening is because its too easy for people to convert their theft into cash without risking being caught. Unlike gold and silver, there is currently no requirement to record transactional information about the sale of copper, making it an attractive metal for criminals to steal and quickly make a profit from. Were going to put a stop to it. Under our proposed amendments, sellers of copper will be required to produce identification and licenced dealers in copper will be required to record all transactions and report details to police. This will give the police an important tool to track down the vandals and thieves responsible. Its a decisive and sensible change - and it will put copper thieves on notice. We will catch you.

11.01.2022 On Sunday (29 November), the Treasurer announced that the HomeBuilder program will be extended to 31 March 2021, albeit in a modified form. The original program, which offers grants of $25,000 to owner-occupiers substantially renovating or building a new home, is available for contracts signed up to 31 December 2020. After that day, the extended HomeBuilder program will apply.... This will provide a $15,000 grant for building contracts (new builds and substantial renovations) signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021, inclusive. There has also been an increase to the property price cap for new build contracts in New South Wales and Victoria. These are rising to $950,000 and $850,000, respectively. However, this only applies to the second iteration - where the contract is signed between 1 January 2021 and 31 March 2021.
