25.01.2022 We want a jounro to come work with us in the news donga. Must love being shunned by polite society.

25.01.2022 Members of the Australian Federal Police’s contingent to the Territory to protect remote areas arrived last week on the same commercial flights as people forced into government-imposed quarantine, the NT Independent can reveal.

22.01.2022 Over 46,000 people came to Darwin to see Bruce Munro's Tropical Light exhibition - more than four times the number who came to the V8 Supercars at the event's peak - the Northern Territory Government claims.

22.01.2022 The NT Independent was on Media Watch last night. We agree with Paul Barry, this is "crazy stuff". Time for the Gunner Government to come to its senses and lift the ban on the free press for the good of the Territory. See www.ntindependent.com.au

21.01.2022 OPINION: Nobody wants to admit they voted in this sad election, especially in Humpty Doo where voters are hiding out waiting for the whole sordid affair to be over with.

18.01.2022 Another week in the Territory and Australia is shipping us more 'rona. From Turkey Day with no kaboomy to the Government flogging off heart-lung machines in a two-for-one deal on buy, swap or sell, to Stockholm syndrome striking down the Territory's most popular bloke. This is what has been good and what has been gammon this week.

15.01.2022 The Darwin Turf Club’s newly constructed Silks Club is alleged to be unsafe and not suitable to occupy, according to a whistleblower who has lodged a formal complaint with Northern Territory authorities over several alleged building non-compliance issues that could put lives at risk.

15.01.2022 Another week and becoming less like the rest of Australia all the time. From a government stripper stimulus program to the Chief Minister finding his safe place away from pesky reporters, this is all that is good and all that is gammon this week.

14.01.2022 The Queen’s representative in the Northern Territory may have violated the Constitution by ejecting the NT Independent’s reporters from covering the ministerial swearing-in ceremony at Government House today, a leading constitutional law expert says.

14.01.2022 Another week in the Territory and we are now turning our back on the rest of Australia again to snuggle with old easy diseasy Victoria. From the homegrown Darwi...n Festival to the dickheads who walk among us, to a Housing Minister spinning bullshit like his life, and his political payout, depends on it. See more

13.01.2022 When the Chief Minister becomes Donald Trump and so much more Territory goodness.

11.01.2022 As we settle into a long weekend filled only with the essentials, the absence of friends, family and ‘Territory family’ feels particularly heightened. COVID-19 ...has sent us all blind across a constantly shifting landscape, but what’s truly essential is that we learn from this, columnist Kylie Stevenson writes. See more

10.01.2022 Leading constitutional law expert and Dean of Law at UNSW George Williams has told the ABC the Gunner Government's blacklisting of the NT Independent could raise constitutional issues. While the Alliance for Journalists Freedom said the government should reverse its position on the NT Independent immediately. And Monash University deputy head of journalism Johan Lidberg called the ban weird, and actually quite serious and the government risked appearing thin-skinned and averse to scrutiny.

08.01.2022 The Gunner Government is using taxpayer funds to hire a national law firm to threaten legal action against the NT Independent for using the common NT brolga logo and attempted to implement a gag order to restrict the online newspaper’s right to report on one of its department’s actions.

08.01.2022 A shining light of government transparency in the week the Gunner Government scrapped it's scrutiny committee for legislation, politicising COVID-19 as the excuse. The NT has a terrible record of refusing FOIs (Read about that here: https://bit.ly/3op4qRA). Add that to them banning the NT Independent, which the US-based Committee to Protect Journalists publicly condemned. And, of course, so much more.

07.01.2022 Banned by the NT Government, true lovers of the free press.

06.01.2022 Prime Minister Scott Morrison asserted in a radio interview there was no slavery in Australia. However academics Thalia Anthony and Stephen Gray argue it's a ...common misunderstanding which often obscures our nation’s history of exploitation of First Nations people and Pacific Islanders. Legislation facilitated the enslavement of Aboriginal people in parts of Australia, including the Northern Territory, and underpinned the cattle industry with Aboriginal workers bought and sold as chattels, they write. 06.01.2022 Another week in the NT and a new four letter word government strategy. From the old school ex-CLP minister who might be a closet greenie, to Sweary Mick stepping up his game, to who is the best swearer, the Chief Minister or Mischief the talking cat? This is what's good n' gammon this week.

05.01.2022 What's gammin in the NT this week? Here's what the Independent reckons has. Tell us in the comments below what you reckon has been gammin and we'll add it. Or direct message us or email us at [email protected].

05.01.2022 The Gunner Government moved a press conference at the last minute Thursday morning, after learning the NT Independent’s journalists would attempt to ask questions of the Chief Minister. A day late but this is what the Gunner Labor Government thinks of press freedom.

05.01.2022 Northern Territory cattle producers have won a protracted legal battle in the Federal Court against the Federal Government over the 2011 live cattle export ban to Indonesia, after the federal court ruled in its favour Tuesday morning.

04.01.2022 Keeping COVID-19 from spreading in the community is good. The Gumment Facebook page is gammon. What we reckon is good and what is gammon this week.

01.01.2022 OPINION: The very large, and expensive Charles Darwin University Darwin CBD campus is too risky and the institution should be focusing on its wide-ranging educational and skills development responsibilities to Territory residents, Don Fuller argues.
