20.01.2022 So this week is Project VH week. A whole lot of work is going to be completed on this thing over the next few days so stay tuned! The first photo is how it is currently sitting in the workshop. Let's see what it looks like by Friday! Managed to get a head start on it last week, and thankfully so. It involved removing some seized and broken bonnet hinge pin bolts. So drilling through the body and drilling out the broken bolts was the only way! And then of course hinge pin bolt...s cannot be sourced for a car this old. So with a bit of ingenuity I was able to make some up that fit perfectly! And with a larger thread size so they're much stronger. Then welding, cleaning up and rust converting the removed sections to seal the holes created. 20.01.2022 It's been a busy few weeks after getting back into full swing again after recovering from a fractured hand. And man am I glad to be back! It was straight into the deep end with an iLoad. Replacing a failed motor with a new reconditioned one. It was discovered a new clutch was needed too, so a new one was installed while the engine was out. A big thanks to Daniel Clarke for helping out with the job while my hand was gettint back to full strength again! Hope you finally get to... enjoy the new van Jakey boy! A new addition showed up at the workshop too, with a customer's VK Blue Meanie Replica being dropped off for the works! More to eventually come on that one. And to top it off a BF XR8 was in for a new clutch for it's 6 speed transmission! So it was a great time to test some of the new equipment in the workshop. 17.01.2022 Davie Auto Shed is now back up and running after some serious renovations over the past two weeks! Still plenty more to come, but the foundations of that have been laid. Both new sections of concrete have been sealed with Staseal in a lovely Charcoal colour. And it was back to business as usual today with a couple of jobs completed on the new surface! 14.01.2022 Just a bit of a lesson on oils and oil filters and why it's important to get them changed frequently! Your engine oil is designed to lubricate moving parts inside your engine, and your oil filter is made to stop any contaminants like dirt or soot from affecting those moving parts. If these go unchanged for too long the oil will continue to pick up those contaminants and turn that oil into lovely messy oily sludge. This will do the opposite of what the oil is intended to do a...nd become and abrasive and cause excessive wear. This sludge will also block up your oil filter, restricting your oil pressure. This is essential for pushing oil to all those important parts! If these parts don't have oil they will heat up and eventually seize. So make sure you get your cars serviced when they need to be! Otherwise it could be far more costly than your standard service. Thankfully the car was bought in for a service in time and treated accordingly! Here is a comparison of the filter that was removed from the car, compared to what a new one looks like. 10.01.2022 It was a huge mission from Thursday through to Sunday! Managed to move everything off on the Thursday, scrub an 18 year old concrete slab to be as clean as it possibly could on the Friday, paint on the Saturday and re-organise everything on the Sunday! Everything was ready for the weeks work on the Monday! Starting off with a couple of good looking utes! **Pro mechanic tip of the week: Don't get Hydrochloric Acid in your eyes when acid etching concrete.
