24.01.2022 Well done to this great cause who helped some 3000 children who are very special have a great day and a better Christmas! Great work Amanda Droscher too!

24.01.2022 Making buns. Hot cross that is....

22.01.2022 Fredrick Talbot Davies was a 2nd generation baker (born 1890, 2nd child and eldest son of John and Emilie)-passionate about 3B's- Bread, Business and Ballarat! He married Alice and they had 4 children- John G. (Jack) Davies, Winifred, Lloyd and Fred Jnr. He was the founding president of the Victorian Assoc. of Bakers (1932), a Rotary President and a Church Elder. Generous to his grandkids- he used to give them pocket money every week and they would have to pick it up from the office on Tuesdays at the bakery in Eureka St.

21.01.2022 Thank-you to Smashfreakz for including us in their review of "30 stunning bread packaging designs" ! John Davies our founder would have been tickled pink we think! http://smashfreakz.com/2016/07/bread-packaging/

21.01.2022 The first 'Davies bakery' (pictured below) was bought by our founder John Davies in 1885 in a country town called Talbot. The current family visited Talbot in March this year to retrace our Great, Great Grandfather's & Grandmother's lives' here. Had a great coffee and 'Blue Heaven' milkshakes at the London Cafe!

21.01.2022 WE MIGHT THINK WE DO ALOT OF THINGS EARLY IN LIFE THESE DAYS, BUT NOT COMPARED TO JOHN DAVIES IN THE 1800'S !!: 16 yrs (1880): Starts delivering bread for German baker Louis Trobler. Works during the day and then learns to bake at night. 21 yrs (1885): Marries his sweetheart Emilie and buys the business when Mr Trobler retires. 22 yrs (1886-1994): Becomes an elder (!) of the Talbot Presbyterian Church. 29 yrs (1893)- Becomes Mayor of Talbot

20.01.2022 The Davies bakery story continues... In 2015 Rob Davies was one of only 9 people (in 35 years) to be inducted into the "Australian society of baking's" Hall of Fame. A baker from the age of 5 (helping Dad!) has left him rich with baking expertise!

19.01.2022 Hope you are enjoying some delicious crumpets with honey on these cold winter mornings!! This is a photo of our crumpets being made with the overhead fires creating the "bubble houses" that hold the honey and butter so well.....

18.01.2022 Thanks so much to everyone who has liked our page and helped us get to 200 likes! It is humbling and appreciated. WE ARE BREAD! And if you are into it, we'd like to make you some dough!!

16.01.2022 In 2017 the Davies family marks 132 years plus in the Baking industry. Here are some of the Davies Bakery "family" photographed on a Spring Day in 2016 (some were inside busily baking bread etc, etc.... in fact- someone is always doing something 24 hours a day 7 days a week here!!)

16.01.2022 Thank-you "Packaging of the World" ( who prides themselves on show-casing the most interesting and creative packaging in the world) for profiling Davies Bakery packaging! http://www.packagingoftheworld.com/2016//davies-bakery.html

15.01.2022 Matthew Davies is the son of Robert and Glenda Davies and a 5th generation baker. He bought into the San Remo bakery within 12 months of it being purchased by Robert and Glenda at the age of 25. He worked hard to improve the business, learning how to bake bread, deliver bread and manage a business. Matthew had to be innovative to make the business more efficient; sub letting properties, living in the old dough room and saving money wherever he could. In the gas crisis of 1998 he reacted quickly by buying a diesel burner and hooking it up to the oven to be one of the few bakeries able to bake bread over this time. He was obviously destined to a life of baking from the photo below (aged 1 year old)...

15.01.2022 We believe it. Bread dominates!

13.01.2022 If you have a bit more time in the mornings with school holidays- try this! Put cherry tomatoes, sliced mushrooms, spinach and a crack an egg into a hot dog roll. Bake in the oven and YUM!

13.01.2022 Give up carbs? OVER MY BREAD BODY! Winter is the time for a nice slice of white with your soup

12.01.2022 https://www.9now.com.au//20/clip-cjic9cr3z008t0gs41tzo5orz The Ch 9 TODAY SHOW featured the English Muffins that DAVIES BAKERY make for Aldi stores this morning!

10.01.2022 Lloyd Davies was my grandfather and a 3rd generation baker. Born in 1920, he was the production manager at Davies Bakery until it was sold to Bunge (Sunicrust) when he was 42. Eventually he became Group production and Quality Controller for all of Sunicrust, probably because he was so passionate about quality, fastidious with dough temperatures and all the details. You may note in the picture that he does not have any fingers on his left hand? In the mid 1940's he chopped off 4 of his index fingers while cleaning out a divider (it was out of gear and somehow slipped back in). He used to wear a white cotton glove over it for 10 years or so, Dad reckoned he looked like Michael Jackson :). Grandad used to tell the grandkids that the reason he didnt have any fingers on that hand was because he picked his nose....

08.01.2022 Winter is a time for English muffins! If you're thinking about what to have for breakfast already.... why not a poached egg and avocado on an English muffin. This breakfast FYI has Vit A, B2, B12, C, D, E plus good fats, folate, copper, phosporous, iodine and selenium. Cant wait for morning!

06.01.2022 We are thinking this may be a way to increase volume if the trend catches on?

05.01.2022 Sick of being told to eat carrot sticks for your snacks? Here's something sustaining and healthy! Less than 140 calories (or 586 KJ) each. Try 1 slice of DAVIES BAKERY wholewheat sandwich slice, plus a tsp of smooth peanut butter and add either a quarter sliced banana and a few blueberries or sliced apple and cinnamon. You'll be sustained til the next meal!

04.01.2022 After 5 generations in the baking industry, we have flour running through our veins! We would love to hear stories of families in Australia who have worked in the same industry (ie any industry) for 5 generations or more? This photo has 6 generations in it- 3 on the truck and 3 in person.

04.01.2022 We are pumping out those award winning hot cross buns!!... Happy Easter to all.

02.01.2022 May your Christmas be filled with love, peace and joy and be blessed heaps and heaps from everyone at Davies Bakery. Wishing you prosperity, good health, happiness and every good thing (including great bread!) for 2017!

02.01.2022 Never doubt the power of the 'other half' in business- Emilie (1st generation Davies Bakery and wife of founder John) had a secret bank account and when John wanted to buy a new piece of machinery to make Vienna bread more efficiently, she quietly presented him with the funds to make his dream come true... true love!

02.01.2022 Did you know that the British Medical Journal found that cutting out wholegrains increases the risk of developing heart disease?(Source: Food and Drink Magazine, June 2017). To get a high dose of wholegrains- eat "Davies Bakery Old Style Wholemeal"- which has 51% wholegrain cereals! Message us and we can direct you to your closest retail outlet.

01.01.2022 The realisation of a 30+ year dream happened when Robert and Glenda Davies bought San Remo Bakery at 400-404 Brunswick St, Fitzroy and started operating on the 10th July 1994. Even before they were married in the 1960s, Glenda would help Robert (in his job) make pies by snipping holes in the top with a pair of scissors. In their courting days, on one such occasion, she started crying because Robert seemed more interested in the pies than in her! Glenda had nothing to worry about...they've been married 50 years this year.

01.01.2022 This is our lovely Lieu making sure our buns measured up... nothing but the best buns pass the test!
