25.01.2022 November 7th 2020 ..... the new era begins. Open Day - Single Stroke followed by a BBQ so please hang around for some fellowship. All male players off white markers. There is to be no hitting up on playing groups. From this point forward anyone accused of hitting up on a group will be penalized with a 2 stroke penalty for the whole group - no excuses accepted. It takes only seconds to make sure that the group in front are clear. Please abide by the rules. Annual membership fees are to be paid up by the start of this game. 5 am for a 5:30 am tee off so please be on time so that the board can be sorted and we are on the tee block on time. ENJOY! :)

25.01.2022 Saturday 22nd August 2020 ..... Murphy's Stableford. Be there 7 am fro 7:30 am tee off. Don't be late so the board can be sorted out. Murphy's Stableford is played as normal except that a double bogey or worse scores -3, Bogey -1, Par +1, Birdie +2, Eagle +3, Albatross +5. Highest score wins. So if for instance that you have a handicap of 18 (one stroke per hole), you take that 1 stroke of your gross score for the hole and then calculate the score. eg a 5 on a par four = par or +1 etc. Have fun.

24.01.2022 So the bad new is that Howeston remains locked so there will be no golf for the foreseeable future. I have also been advised that those clubs that are open and with very strict regulations in place are not able to take non-members due to having to cater for the membership. Hopefully there will be a easing of restrictions and we will once again enjoy the game we love to hate .... keep safe and healthy until then :) (y) :poop:

24.01.2022 To all members, we are still waiting on an update from Howeston re golf next Saturday. As you may be aware, some golf clubs are open and regulating the game by allowing only 2 player groups and adequate spacing between groups etc. Difficult to police this on a public course and therein lies the problem. We are hoping that we can get on the course .... stay tuned more to follow when available.

24.01.2022 I have had a question regarding tonight's announcement regarding the closure of sporting venues tomorrow. To my knowledge this closure applies only to bars/clubhouses and restaurants/cafes associated with sporting venues. It doesn't apply to golf games as long as social distancing is strictly adhered to. What does this mean for Dawnbreakers - 1.5 metres separation from each other and 4 metres distancing between tables within an enclosed area. One person to a buggy or share it... for 9 holes each. A buggy is allowed to carry two bags but only one person in the buggy at a time. No shaking hands, kissing, hugging, or really contact of any kind between players (although I think that a fist bump, elbow touch of foot touch is ok as long as the distance is kept). Washing of hands regularly and use of hand sanitizer particularly after completing the game. The big one of course - IF YOU ARE FEELING UNWELL DON"T TURN UP, GO INTO ISOLATION OR GO AND GET TESTED. I think it is our duty of care to tell others about this if we see people breaking the rules as well ..... we don't want this thing to get to a stage where we are all isolated at home. 13.01.2022 Don't get your hopes up too high but maybe Howeston will begin playing again in mid May. We are working on fitting in the missing month and a half and the Individual Match Play draw has been done and will be published here or on the web as soon as I can get it organized. Hopefully we will all be able to hate golf again soon. :) (y)

12.01.2022 The bad news: Howeston (Royal Birkdale) is still in bad condition and closed today. They are trying hard to have it open for play tomorrow if there is no rain overnight. They will not make a decision until 5:45 in the morning. If open it will be old 18 and no carts. In consideration of this it has been decided to cancel our competition tomorrow once again. You can ring in at 5:45 ish to see if it is open and play it you wish but I repeat "NO COMPETITION TOMORROW". The problems that they had experienced is not just the rainfall but the Leslie Harrison dam opened the floodgates and the overflow and high tides inundated the lower parts of the course. 10.01.2022 Well we are in a rapidly changing situation and who knows what will take place this week. Next Saturday we are supposed to be playing Single Stroke Eclectic Round 8 and Final of the Pairs Match Play. Owing to the PMs address this evening (Sunday), group gatherings are now down from 10 to 2 people which means to me that golf as we know it will not be able to be played, however more on that as information comes to hand. 10.01.2022 Saturday October 10th Canadian Foursomes. 5 am for a 5:30 am tee off .... please be at the sheds at 5 am so that everything can be completed in a timely manner and we make the tee time. Briefly - both players tee off on all holes, players then decide which ball is in the best position and the other ball is taken out of play. The player of the ball taken out of play then has the next shot and then the other (alternately) until the ball is holed out. Handicap is 3/8 of combined handicap. Played as a stroke game so putts can be counted as well. Lowest score wins. Have fun event .....! :)

09.01.2022 Further to yesterday's post, we have heard from Kel - Saturday golf is still on however there is to be no gathering at the sheds to start and strict social distancing must be observed by all - so no kissing and hugging you lot - one person only to a buggy and due to the PMs latest rules there will be no BBQ or presentation at the conclusion. Scores and awards will be posted on the web as normal and prizes handed out on the next game. If you have further questions leave a post here so we can all be informed. I will send this message by sms as well so that all we get it.

06.01.2022 Saturday 31st October 2020 - Single Stroke Medal of Medals day. 5am for 5:30 tee off. Don't be late as we need to be on the tee block on time. Remember that fees for the 2021 season are due as well. If you are not financial then you can't be considered for competition games. I will also remind everyone that as of the first game in November all male members will play of the white markers. Good luck for all those competing for the Medal of Medals trophy.

They are the ones who will leave their seats several times to go for food, beer, or the toilet and who leave early before the end of the performance or the game is over. The folks in the aisle seats come early, never move once, have long gangly legs or big bellies and stay to the bitter end of the performance. The a...isle people also are very surly folk. 11. The Coffee Law As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold. 12. Murphy's Law of Lockers - If there are only 2 people in a locker room, they will have adjacent lockers. 13. 04.01.2022 I haven't written anything of note today gang largely due to the fact that Howeston will not open the doors again until restrictions are lifted or at least become less stringent. Your club is in good hands though - Jan and I will be meeting early next week to do the singles MP draw as well as begin the work of redoing the games to fit in some of the games that we have had to miss due to this lockdown period. I believe that most of us are still getting a fix at various golf clubs around the city so keep your game up to speed so when things get normalized we can get back to enjoying the game we love to hate ...... 03.01.2022 Saturday 24th October, Single Stroke Monthly Medal October 5 am for a 5:30 am tee time. Please see website for all details. AGM held last Saturday - Dawnbreakers financial year is from 1 Nov to 31 Oct. In line with this, fees are to be paid by the 1st Nov for the 20/21 year. Also Open Day will now be played on the first Sat in November. As of the first of Nov, all male players will play from the white markers. Grades will remain the same and will be adjusted as required to balance the fields from time to time. Winners of team trophy events will now be able to defend their title but only if qualified to do so and must be the same team. There is one new trophy event from next year - the player with the best 4 individual nett scores for the year. This will not be graded. See you Saturday for the last Medal event of this year.

03.01.2022 Please take note as several discrepancies were found on cards after last weeks round. On the cards, the index can be shown as 14/16. This means that on the front nine the index is 14 however it is 16 if that 9 holes is the back nine. These figures used to determine where strokes are taken. Any question please SMS or call me.
