12.01.2022 PHONE SCAM ALERT! Listen out for suspicious calls claiming to be from the ATO. Today scammers have started ‘spoofing’ the ATO’s phone number so it looks like we’re calling. They’re also leaving the ATO’s number on voicemails in an attempt to further legitimise themselves. While these calls may appear to be from the ATO, remember that the ATO will never threaten you with arrest, demand immediate payment, or encourage you not to speak with your regular tax agent. Hang up if you’re unsure, and contact our dedicated scam hotline on 1800008540 for support. Read more: https://www.ato.gov.au//On/Identity-security/Scam-alerts/

02.01.2022 There’s no such thing as a ‘standard’ deduction this is a myth. While you can claim up to $300 in work-related expenses without detailed receipts, it’s not an automatic entitlement. You still need to be able to show how you calculated your claims and why they’re work related. Read more about record keeping at https://www.ato.gov.au//income-/records-you-need-to-keep/
