25.01.2022 Lessons filling up very fast!!!

24.01.2022 Anyone can teach a dog to come when it's called.

24.01.2022 To all the men, woman and animals that served to protect our freedom and allow us to live the life we have today, thank you. Lest we forget.

22.01.2022 Take a moment to read this if you have time, it's important to remember that the muscles in our horses back are driving/drawing muscles and were not designed to be load bearing.

20.01.2022 To all our family, friends and wonderfully supportive clients, Tamara and I would like to announce the birth of our beautiful son Bodie Wade Day at 8.30 pm on Tuesday the 2nd of July. Words can not express the joy and love we are feeling. We would like to thank the Burnside hospital for their wonderful supportive staff, our obstetrician Karen Chandler who is just fantastic and a very special mention to mid wife Maddie Whitehead who went above and beyond to help us through a tricky labor, so caring kind and professional, even staying a few hours after her shift had ended to make sure we were settled and ok. We look forward to introducing everyone to the future pony handler at Day Horsemanship.

19.01.2022 Thank you to all the many animals that have served and given their lives and continue to do so in the wars that we the human have created. Forever grateful. Lest we forget.

18.01.2022 Today I write on this page with a very heavy heart. On Sunday my beautiful nephew Bradley Day was killed whilst riding his dirt bike with mates, he had just turned 19. For those who know me well will know my interest in social media is less than zero. You only need look at how often I put up posts on this page to see what I mean. The only reason I have it is because apparently to be a good horse trainer you need a Facebook page. (That and the fact that Tamara and Clare set it... up when i was out one day.) When asked why I don't do more on Facebook my answer is always the same, ' I would rather be outside working with horses!" And that is what I do, day in and day out for over twenty years, it's been my life. It brings me peace and to be honest, the closest I can get to meditation is when I am with the horse, they keep me in the moment. The day after I received the call about Brad I went to the round yard, my place of solitude and I spent the day working with horses, slowly and gently as always, but it was different somehow, it was almost as if every horse felt my grief and sadness, they were extra kind to me, things I had been working on that were new and fresh to the individual horse came easy as if they new I needed help and as always, help me they did. I don't really know where I'm going with this, for a private person who has always kept things to himself and dealt with problems on their own and in the company of horses it's new to be writing these words on a public page. Every moment in life offers a lesson to us all, I'm not completely sure what I will fully take from this but I've learned like horses, the people that matter are kind, the support from friends, Family and total strangers has been immense And as always, the horses, they have been there for me as I've always known without doubt That they would be. This is a horse page, I feel I should say something that can help people communicate with their horses, after all, it's my job, so here it is. Help them, show them, be patient. Go away and learn more so you can teach them. Never let your own needs and wants get in the way of theirs, if you give them what they need, they will always give you what you want. I ask that people please be patient with me over the next few weeks, there are horses booked in and times Ive said I'll be able to do things which I may not be able to honour, so my apologies in advance if that becomes the case. All my love and care to my brother and mate Kevin, and his beautiful wife Debbie. Chevonne, you are so beautiful and talented, your skill, dedication, and achievements you've made with horses makes me so proud, one day I'm sure I will work for you. Bradley, you were so gentle and wise beyond your years. By every account you were the most loyal, kind and generous mate a person could ask for, I will always miss you. I love you, rest in peace Bradley Day

17.01.2022 Personalities Something to be mindful of when interacting with and educating our horses that often gets missed and is rarely discussed in the bigger scheme of things is a horse’s personality. How two horses perceive and respond to a certain experience and situation can be completely different. The problem with a scientific approach when educating horses or any animal for that matter, is that it allows for very little leeway when it comes to the individual’s traits, and how th...Continue reading

16.01.2022 Crafty is for sale. 15hh 7 yr old station bred QH brumby mare. Not registered. Located Adelaide Hills. She is strong, well muscled, fit and in work and needin...g just the right home. Done stockman’s challenges (which includes whip cracking, cross country, time trials, cattle work, obstacles, dry patterns), mustering in the Vic high country and tonnes of trail riding. Great in the forest, no problem with roos and dogs. Fast and very sure footed up hill and down at any speed. The absolute best pack (led) horse you could ask for and great to lead others off. She is light and extremely quick and responsive. If you ask for go you’d better be ready or you’ll be sitting on the ground behind her! I’ve ridden her at liberty and her groundwork is second to none. She is an honest, sound and well broke horse but she is a V8 so please don’t ask if she would be good for an inexperienced rider - she won’t be. She needs balance and kind hands as she responds to everything. Has been barefoot for a year now and is doing great in her scoot boots but has been shod previously. Good with the clippers on her mane (currently hogged but has started growing it out). She’s good for the farrier, a VERY good doer, lovely to catch, hard ties, up to date with teeth and vaccinations. Excellent in the float. This is a very very hard sell. Crafty is one of the family and has the sweetest nature and loves kindness and gentleness. She needs a forever home with stability as change can be difficult for her. We are moving her on as we are a competitive home and she doesn’t do well in high pressure situations at this stage. Maybe in time she would improve and if she went solo I think she’d be fine but we take multiple horses and separating in those situations is hard for her. She can cope if she’s close to a horse she knows - then nothing is a problem. If I was a trail rider she would be my number one horse. She has a beautiful even stride and doesn’t rush and a canter you could sit on all day and all on a loose rein. Halt to canter on a kiss and can do sliding stops and roll backs. She’s a lovely ride out solo or happy in a group. She needs someone with experience who is kind and patient with natural horsemanship skills as she can get anxious and needs confidence from her rider. Purchased from and started by Adrian Day so she has the best start a horse could ask for. She can read your mind and every move your body makes so you need to be aware of what you are doing. Asking price is $6500 but finding the right human for her is number one priority. Can offer multiple rides and situations but no trials sorry. 0433413996

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who came out to Kimba on the weekend for lessons, treatments and or just to say g'day. We always have a fantastic time and meet the nicest people and horses. Your positive outlook, thirst for more knowledge with your horses and happy attitudes is refreshing, keep up the great work. As always a special thank you to Megan Hansen for organising everything, putting us up and baking the best chocolate cake. You're a legend. Oh and you do alright on your hors...es too. We look forward to seeing everyone again soon. Cheers, Adrian, Tamara and Clare.

07.01.2022 I would like to say a very special thank you to all the kind people who have offered their support over the past few weeks to myself and my family over the loss of my nephew Bradley. Words cannot express how appreciative I am at the comments left on this page, the calls and messages to see if we are going ok and offers of help and support. You will all forever hold a special place in my heart. "The simple willingness to be present at a time of sadness is a great silent gift."... Forever thankful, Adrian.

06.01.2022 We woke to a great little surprise this morning. The owners who recently purchased this lovely Clydesdale mare from the Echuca sales and had sent to me for handling, were told she was in foal and due in November.

04.01.2022 To all the ponies out there, thanks for keeping it real. Have a safe and happy weekend.

04.01.2022 I believe creating a horse that is virsatile is one of the keys for future success when educating horses. Although the horse in these photos (Finn) is heading off for a career in dressage, since he was brought to me for starting, he has been ridden on roads, the bush with kangaroos and deer, alone and in company, along side the freeway, has lead and helped educate young horses I'm starting, coped with tarps, flags, stock whips and even umbrellas. All the while focusing on c...reating a soft, kind confident and willing partner. It doesn't matter what the future discipline will be, all horses that come to Day Horsemanship if able and within reason go through a similar process, with kindness and care to allow for greater success in the horses future endeavours. Please don't let people tell you that these things are not relative to you or your horse, or that a horse should be started in a discipline from day one, you don't skip primary and high school because you're in a hurry to go to university. Set your horses up for success and they will succeed. All the best. Adrian. See more

02.01.2022 In the age of social media and information where images of what people are eating for dinner are posted around the world like breaking news, it's easy to see how anyone who has a horse and an opinion can quite easily become the next guru of sorts. Understanding, building and forming a relationship with horses where all things flow like a beautiful dance is a life long journey and most definitely something that encroaches into your everyday life, you don't leave it at the stab...les. I don't believe there is ever a moment where we have all the answers. The sooner people understand that and become humble towards their horses the sooner the journey begins. Enjoy your journey, Adrian. PS If you can take the time to read the article below its great food for thought.

01.01.2022 Anyone who is looking to have their young horse started, I strongly recommend you read this first. Ironically a big part of my job is turning people away from having their horses started with me, I want all horses to have the best of lives and I know that too much too soon on the body and mentally can ruin a horse in the future, you may get them fixed up and going well at two but in a few years, all sorts of physical problems will start to come out from loading immature body parts not up to the task. This doesn’t mean that a young horse can’t be handled and handled a lot, working with the horses mind and creating confidence, yielding to pressure and generally learning the foundation of things to come is what’s needed at a young age. Just leave the the more advanced things for a later time. All the best.

01.01.2022 Tamara and I would like to extend a huge thank you to Mitch, Michelle and Tyler Barnes for their hospitality last week at the beautiful Two Bear Ranch in Whitefish Montana. Mitch and I worked together 21 years ago for Mule Shoe Outfitters in the Glacier National Park, Montana. We fast became good mates with our similar philosophies on horses and perhaps life in general.... His family, Michelle, Shayna and Tyler made me feel like one of the family and that's how I looked upon them, which was a very special thing being so far from home for over three years. Fast forward 21 years and it seems some things don't change. Thank you guys for your love, friendship and hospitality, the nicest horses we got to play with and the most beautiful country we got to ride through. See you next year. Love, Adrian and Tamara.
