Although I’m sure the female empowerment message has been posted with good intentions the real message behind this campaign is getting lost. This campaign is about Femicide and to highlight the soaring rates of violence against women, in this particular case women killed in Turkey. The girl featured in this photo is Pinar Gultekin. She was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend in Turkey. Turkey has one of the highest rates of femicide in the the world and often murderers barely get a slap on the wrist or even worse no charges at all.
